  • Check it out! I just picked up this 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0 duramax and the max trailering package or the max tow package. I'm coming from a 2023 Toyota Tundra which I traded in. It had the engine recall, but that wasn't the whole reason for me swapping. I'm really excited to review this truck and tow with it over the coming months. Stick around for a proper review later on after I've got some miles under my belt.
    Thanks for watching.

    I've got 86k on my 2020 3.0 AT4. STILL runs like new and have had zero issues. Just got back from a 3k mile road trip out west and averaged 24mpg. That's driving mostly 75-80 with the AC on. Still love it!

      @@TakeDeadAim That's great to hear! I just did a 615 mile road trip yesterday with a dirt bike in the back and the bars up above the roof line. Going between 70 and 80 I still managed 26.2 MPG!

    Excellent video buddy. You can't argue with your reasoning at all. If I go back to a full size truck, a gm with that eco diesel would be on top of my list for sure. I hear great things about those motors. I am really looking forward to your thoughts on owning a diesel after a little while. That's one reason I did not go with It when I Bought my Tundra as I was nervous about owning a diesel never having owned one. Congratulations!

    You will love that engine I am on my second GMC . I had the elevation 1 then traded in for A Sierra Denali love the ride all the options. I was looking a tundra 3 years ago but I just did not like all the plastic in the tundra. Plus no diesel option on Toyotas . Enjoy your new Truck.😊

    Crazy. This is the exact truck I was considering when I bought my 22 Tundra 1794 in July of 22.
    At the time they were missing a lot of options with credits which was unacceptable and the seats even in the Denali were too hard, so I passed on it.

    I bought the same truck in a Chevy High Country. Love the 3.0l and the max tow. I've never got less than 24mpg for a full tank (winter warm ups included). I've gotten as high as 35 over 100mi stretches. A weird note, I've never had a Regen notice pop up. Other than the first Regen at about 400mi (very smoky/smelly) I could barely tell it regens.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  24 дня назад

      Very nice! Do you have 4low? Also, I just installed a scangauge 3 to monitor regens. Hoping to make a vid on that soon.

    • @70below
      @70below 23 дня назад

      @@ThomperBeThompin yes, 4 low as well. Scangauge would be interesting. I'm really tempted to get a tuner. I'm seeing some out there with ~45hp improvement which would square it up with the 5.3 on that front with of course gobs more torque.

    • @johnbaron3070
      @johnbaron3070 23 дня назад

      @@johnbaron3070I've never done a parked Regen. The first couple regens seemed to happen at about 400-450mi. But like I say, it was pretty hard to tell after that.

    The 1 speed transfer case really isnt a big deal. With how crazy low 1st and 2nd gear are , combined with a 3.73 axle ratio, you already have some pretty aggressive gear reduction going on.

      Sounds like you're have a major cope session because your 3rd gen Tundra sucks. Good luck with that. Keep an eye on that transmission. Sounds like the transmission is failing at a rate nearly as bad as the engine.

    The bed utility in the GM is a much better an the Tundra. It was one of the biggest factor for me in buying a 2024 Silverado instead of the Tundra. Along with the tow hook. Really I use my tow hooks Toyota.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  17 дней назад

      That is exceptional for those speeds. With these 3.73 gears, if I cruise at 65 I can get about 33-34 mpg. Not too bad! I'm sure at 85 it would drop to the mid-20s.

    I dont see how a 2 spd transfer case has anything to do with heavier springs for towing....

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  5 дней назад

      @@kirkdunn1379I think they ditch it because they say many customers don't ever use it, plus it allows for a greater payload capacity because of the reduction in weight. The same exact truck as this but with only 2wd has a higher payload. Not sure what you mean about the transfer case and heavier springs.

  • @charlesb4267
    @charlesb4267 12 дней назад

    That is one thing which to me makes no sense at all and that is installing a single speed transfer case as standard and not even offering it as an option anymore in anything but the highest trim levels if one wants both the max tow package and the two speed. Yes they do offer the two speed transfer case as an additional cost option in lower trims but not with the max tow that has the lower diff gearing. That has turned me off of buying a GM half ton as I am in a rural farming area ( gravel roads everywhere ) and painted bumpers don't take long to look like crap with rock chips which one is forced to get with a High Country or Denali that has the aforementioned two options paired together. That forces one into an HD truck or some other brand of truck.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  12 дней назад +1

      @@charlesb4267 yeah I have no idea why they went that route. Could you imagine a world where low range was as common as manual transmissions? Seems nuts to me.

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 12 дней назад

      @@ThomperBeThompin From my understanding there have been various buyers of these trucks that never realized the truck they bought never had a low range, they naturally "assumed" it did and no one told them different and this has been going on for a few years now, but more so with the last couple of model years is what I gather. Surprisingly Jeep and this goes back into the 1970's that with the Grand Wagoneer depending on how it was equipped may only have high range and of course its always assumed of course a "Jeep" will have low range .... well they citified them and turned them into what amounts to a four wheel drive station wagon, who would have thought. Thankfully Jeep is still making some proper geared Jeeps as per Rubicons, my brother bought one last year that has a special package on top of the Rubicon so not only the 4:1 reduction transfer case but a 4:56 diff gearing as well with heavier axles. But anyway half ton pickup trucks have become more car like all the time but that also means a better riding pickup on the whole. At least the max tow 3.0 diesel comes with a decent 3.73 and also has a fairly low first gear ratio which is far more capable than years back with a two wheel drive pickup that had a fast axle and a crappy high first gear to boot.

    Who makes the Duramax diesel for GM ? After several GM lemons, two of which I won lemon law lawsuits after they became available, I am done with GM's horrible reliability..... the only thing that might make a GMC truck enticing is something other than the problematic 5.3 and 6.2 engines.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 9 дней назад

      The 3.0 Duramax is built in Michigan. It's the exact same engine as the 3.0L diesel engine BMW puts in many of their vehicles (BMW B57). The engine design has been around for decades.
