    Just wanted to say a huge thank you for doing these videos, I had my first AP interview this week and watched lots of your videos when I was preparing for it! You made some really good points and insight into the interview process, it made a real difference (I got offered the position!)

    Massive help, not just for preparation but for nerves. Have my first assistant psychologist interview (after a mountain of applications) next month so I'll let you know how it goes!

    Thank you for the video, I've got my first interview for Assistant Psychologist coming up and this has really helped. I always struggle answering with nerves and and forgot everything.

      Congratulations for getting your first interview! Just don't rush and ask them to repeat questions if you need some extra thinking time. Wishing you all the best!

    Hey, thanks for the video! Can I just ask, with the question about how to respond to someone making an inappropriate comment in a group setting, how did you go about answering this?

    • @SharonB
      @SharonB  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching :) I said that I would validate their right to speak freely however ask if they could speak to me privately at the end of the session. I would then explain why it may be inappropriate to do that in a group setting. I would also assess other group members informally to see if they were impacted by the comment. In the future sessions, I would try and steer conversation away from that topic to prevent it from happening again!

    this really helped....you mentioned you had a placement assistant psychology and i have an interview on that soon..do you recal any important questions from that or tips for the interview??

    • @SharonB
      @SharonB  4 года назад +2

      So happy my video is helpful for someone! My placement was for a Learning Disability team in the dementia service and questions were very focused around the role rather than about my character and reflectivity... This was over 2 years ago now but the 2 questions I remember were - why do you want to work for this service and what do you know about the link between dementia and learning disabilities. :)

    How long would you say your interviews lasted?

    • @SharonB
      @SharonB  4 года назад

      From what I can remember they were meant to last 40 mins but I always finished early by like 10 mins (not necessarily a good thing lol)

    Hello. Thank you for the amazing video and tips! I am applying for Assistant Psychologist roles and just wanted to be prepared before for interviews. If I am asked about any previous literature I have read, what type of literature does this involve. Can it be any psychology related article and how much detail should this answer be?
    Also, when asked at the end of the interview, do you have any questions to ask what type of question would be suitable?
    Thank you in advance!
    Sahrish.

    • @SharonB
      @SharonB  4 года назад +2

      Hey thanks for watching! If I were you, I would speak about literature relevant to the job you're applying to or something you can apply to your role. Make sure you speak about how this piece of literature will impact the way you work, don't just outline the research! In terms of questions for the panel, just ask anything you really want to know about the job eg. about the role or the client group. I don't think they are judging you on the questions you ask just be sensible and inquisitive. Hope that helps!

    Have you ever experienced an interview where you have been asked questions centred around a metaphorical situation and then ask about research methods/techniques? design etc that you would use?

    • @SharonB
      @SharonB  4 года назад +2

      So I've never really had a research methods based question, but in terms of a metaphorical situation yes. I had an interview where there were 2 tasks in which I had to role play speaking to a service user :)
