Its produced by the same studio who produced initial D and I believe Wangan too, so the art and car styles are pretty much the same. It is a bit difficult to find but its well worth it if you are interested in closed circuit stuff.
If you wait for a little longer, the creator of Initial D is creating a new anime titled Mf Ghost, based on the manga of the same name. You can read the manga online but the series has been confirmed.
Wow, what a show! I can't believe this anime only ran 1 season! Just like the engines of those ape-shiet high power motors they all run at 9000 RPM lol... really sucks that it's over. I actually hesitated to watch this episode, because I didn't want it to end. I loved the vibe of this show. I wish I could meet some people who actually care about cars as much as these characters do. Automotive passion like this gives me something to live for and constantly look forward to. I wish legends like this actually existed.

wow, this anime took longer for me to finish then usual, just like initial d for me. I just took some time off of it and I came back to finish. I gotta admit, I really love the drama in this when compared to initial d, i never thought that highway racing would be that good in a show. I prefer initial d because the characters are more memorable and it's funnier, there's different tracks and many settings like fog or snow. initial d is about good drivers while wangan midnight is about good cars. I really hope we see a 2ND season but I see from a lot of ppl that it's doubtful. they can have the z34 350z in midnight blue! for AKIO or the new rumoured rX vision concept from mazda, if they make a new rx7... Especially since there are a lot of inconsistencies on some translations (especially on the mechanical aspects) and that hurt me to see. And there are no releases with a HD image quality either. I've managed to get my hand on the japanese DVDs years ago and I've started to do it a few months ago on my free time. It takes me a long time but I'd rather take my time & do it properly

Akio and Reina being together should have been the counterargument to every character in the show that felt that way. "Oh, yeah we could TOTALLY die and that would suck, but we love street racing and each other". BOOM.

Yeah, I know, this comment is a year old, but I believe season 2 happened after the Z burned and rebuilt for the 2nd time. after this, Blackbird is no more, its basically trashed after the body chop, Akio wont let the Z change from what it is stock.. so without them changes and faster cars to fight, they have nothing for the next season..
I don't think it's ever going to happen. Tho I will really be happy to see that happen but it's been 13 years so I don't see any possibility for a season 2.

EndoDizzy most of the cars in this show have heavily modified brakes and suspension but the main focus is stability and top speed so weight body rigidity and horsepower is the main focus
Reaching the end, I can't help but notice all the cars and people in previous episodes that are not seen again, yet how important they all were in their time. That's a good analogy to life, that each interaction carries with it immeasurable outcomes. Like the Testarossa for example, possibly the only Ferrari ever touched by Kitami. Who's to say another Akio with a heart for Italian sports cars isn't searching for it after its owners demise (from cancer)? When a butterfly flaps its wings as they say.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. When I first learned that there was a show with my favorite Nissan and my favorite model for the Porsche Turbo as the main cars, I knew it was for me! Watching these 26 episodes was truly an experience, and has further inspired me to go fulfill my dreams on the Wangan, and for that I thank you...

There it is... That old familiar feeling... that emptiness in my heart after finishing a really good anime... I'm so glad I found this on RUclips. I enjoyed every bit of it. And it possibly has one of the best soundtracks for an anime after Cowboy Bebop.
Great show! It really plumbs the depths of what it means to be a street-racer. It's you against the asphalt, regardless of who your opponent is, You could be driving a 55 year old classic, against a 2-year old modern car. It's partially the car, but mostly the driver who is in tune with their machine. It does not matter if it is a 2000 pound classic German car, a mid 60's Muscle car, a mid 90's 13K pound Rv or a mid 2000 BMW, it's how you communicate with the vehicle, Drive, Go, Go!
Wangan Midnight would have been a 10/10 anime if Akio ended up with Reina in the end or if there was some feeling of resolution to the show. If he doesn't end up with Reina, wouldn't it have made more sense to have her driving and racing the Z and Blackbird, instead of the host guy? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have Reina riding shotgun with Akio because she confesses her feelings and/or he confesses his and the moral of the story ends up being that for as risky as street racing is, that you can share that love of racing with someone? Remember, she is TOTALLY cool with Akio driving the Z, despite every other female character on the show not being cool with their boyfriends racing. As it is, the show was REALLY good with fantastic animation and good characters overall. Initial D is still better though.
@Generical fashlandia couldn't have been said better. The show is about the beauty of a car not so much the driver. That's why i feel like anytime a character had the slightest remorse for life or anything besides cars. They would release the gas pedal. Stop the racing. And dissappear fom the show.

Binged the whole series in 3 nights on my security post. Many questions left unanswered. While I understand Akio's character arc wasn't focused on his personal relationships, I really wished it would have expanded with Reina ): Maybe one day he'll slow down enough for her to catch him (: Farewell, Wangan. May the Z ride forever.
GODDAMMIT!!!!! No! …. I demand a season 2 ! (I can only hope) ~`~ But then again.. I wouldn't go back to being productive and my poor cars would go to waste, thus being contradictive to me being addicted to this series. DRIVE GO GO!!
I kinda have mixed but overall positive feelings towards this Anime. There never was a real goal for any of these characters other than "go fast, try to go faster" which was kind of refreshing but unexpected. Initial D in comparison reveals its ulterior goal towards the 3rd season which is achieved by the end of the show. Wangan Midnight has no real goal to begin with, it's just purely there to show you what racing feels like. It's not really a story, it's an experience. That is maybe both its strongest as well as its weakest point. The conflict between wanting to go faster and not wanting to waste your life is also well portrayed most of the times. The music could've used a little more variety and was sometimes not really fitting, but was well done overall, especially in this last episode.
Wow, really got into this series! I have been driving my 76 280z S30 these last two weeks after actually rescuing it out of a Junkyard 2 years ago, (definitely no Devil Z but a fun car just the same) Absolutely love the details in this series from the engines, dashboards, guages, to the actual body lines of the cars. Kinda sad there is no more episodes.
Thanks for posting all these. The concept of this series interests me, but much of it really started to drag. I wish they had done more with the 'Christine' vibe you get from the first episode. A haunted car that repairs itself like a ghost, etc.
There are actually 30 seconds of this episode that are lost. After the fat body repair dude says that, other people also talk. But they basically say how the Z is very fast and everyone tries to follow it
I wish this was continued into another season, but as Hot Wheels Acceleracers ended with is being in question, this story comes to a close where we can think of how it continued, what I could have been like, and overall, shows us the worlds that many don't know of. Thanks for making this playlist, I only had to find one out of the 26, but I still enjoyed, thank you.
Sadly it shows that each racer gave up over time of becoming faster and faster and became scared, satisfied,or tired of it and gave up after time. Shows what happens after racing for a long time and going faster faster and faster...it's a lot more dark I'll say this show and this last episode was the final one showing blackbird finally slowing down and being satisfied. With the z's victory being shown. May this show live on forever in our hearts and we will never forget it. A amazing anime series sadly ended with only 26 episodes of amazing racers on the wangan. You will forever be kept as a memory and never forgotten. May we now depart wangan midnight... A well deserved goodbye to such an amazing series. That sadly came to an end to soon. I can't believe that the whole 1st season of this legendary wangan midnight animé franchise is just made up of 26 episode. Its short but every single one of those episodes sure are worth the time. What a great animé series this is, i hope there would be a 2nd season (if possible)
I believe the reason why Tatsuya lost is it because of the ultra light weight of his car which is 1000kg(which is 2200lbs for the Americans) and the fact that the blackbird had a 700hp in it with a RR configuration(Rear engine,Rear wheel drive) so the center of the gravity is very much at the back and the front wheel barely going to lift up if he was gonna continuing to accelerate. edit:my grammar and spelling its a lil messed up,and basically correct me if I'm wrong.
Tatsuya should have think of a way to fix the lower centre of gravity instead of 100% focusing on carbon fibre only. If he had find a way to balance out these 2 characteristics for Blackbird, it would've been truly equal to Akio's Devil Z.

If any of you have a Sim rig and have Assetto Corsa, I highly recommend the Shotoko Revival Project mod. Basically you can drive the Japanese highway system that connects the greater Tokyo area, which includes the Wangan, C1 Loop, ect. Just look it up on RUclips if you are interested.
Watched through the entire season, props to @nakashima Kaito for uploading the whole season with no commercials. Loved this series equal to initial D. I would love to see Naniwa Tomoare turned into an anime since thats all we will see of the Wanagan series.
They're not. The songs are "Braking Down" and "Blowing Through The Street," but I can't find any videos of them anywhere. Probably because Funta made them exclusively for Wangan Midnight.

Wangan Midnight would have been a 10/10 anime if Akio ended up with Reina in the end or if there was some feeling of resolution to the show. If he doesn't end up with Reina, wouldn't it have made more sense to have her driving and racing the Z and Blackbird, instead of the host guy? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have Reina riding shotgun with Akio because she confesses her feelings and/or he confesses his and the moral of the story ends up being that for as risky as street racing is, that you can share that love of racing with someone? Remember, she is TOTALLY cool with Akio driving the Z, despite every other female character on the show not being cool with their boyfriends racing.
As it is, the show was REALLY good with fantastic animation and good characters overall. Initial D is still better though.

@Generical fashlandia couldn't have been said better. The show is about the beauty of a car not so much the driver. That's why i feel like anytime a character had the slightest remorse for life or anything besides cars. They would release the gas pedal. Stop the racing. And dissappear fom the show.

Binged the whole series in 3 nights on my security post. Many questions left unanswered. While I understand Akio's character arc wasn't focused on his personal relationships, I really wished it would have expanded with Reina ): Maybe one day he'll slow down enough for her to catch him (: Farewell, Wangan. May the Z ride forever.

I LOVE THE ENDING OF WANGAN AND INITIAL D
I kinda have mixed but overall positive feelings towards this Anime. There never was a real goal for any of these characters other than "go fast, try to go faster" which was kind of refreshing but unexpected. Initial D in comparison reveals its ulterior goal towards the 3rd season which is achieved by the end of the show. Wangan Midnight has no real goal to begin with, it's just purely there to show you what racing feels like. It's not really a story, it's an experience. That is maybe both its strongest as well as its weakest point. The conflict between wanting to go faster and not wanting to waste your life is also well portrayed most of the times. The music could've used a little more variety and was sometimes not really fitting, but was well done overall, especially in this last episode.
I always hate those talky endings just ride off into the sunset like the legend you are.
Wow, really got into this series! I have been driving my 76 280z S30 these last two weeks after actually rescuing it out of a Junkyard 2 years ago, (definitely no Devil Z but a fun car just the same) Absolutely love the details in this series from the engines, dashboards, guages, to the actual body lines of the cars. Kinda sad there is no more episodes.

Just watched this series again. This show is the reason i picked me up an 85,000 mile Z31 Z. I definitely plan to build it similar to Haruda’s turbo

always put money on the main character's car in racing animes, they got at least +250 plot HP
Thanks for posting all these. The concept of this series interests me, but much of it really started to drag. I wish they had done more with the 'Christine' vibe you get from the first episode. A haunted car that repairs itself like a ghost, etc.

There are actually 30 seconds of this episode that are lost. After the fat body repair dude says that, other people also talk. But they basically say how the Z is very fast and everyone tries to follow it

I wish this was continued into another season, but as Hot Wheels Acceleracers ended with is being in question, this story comes to a close where we can think of how it continued, what I could have been like, and overall, shows us the worlds that many don't know of. Sadly it shows that each racer gave up over time of becoming faster and faster and became scared, satisfied,or tired of it and gave up after time. Shows what happens after racing for a long time and going faster faster and faster...it's a lot more dark I'll say this show and this last episode was the final one showing blackbird finally slowing down and being satisfied. With the z's victory being shown. May this show live on forever in our hearts and we will never forget it. A amazing anime series sadly ended with only 26 episodes of amazing racers on the wangan. You will forever be kept as a memory and never forgotten. May we now depart wangan midnight... A well deserved goodbye to such an amazing series. That sadly came to an end to soon.

I can't believe that the whole 1st season of this legendary wangan midnight animé franchise is just made up of 26 episode. Its short but every single one of those episodes sure are worth the time. What a great animé series this is, i hope there would be a 2nd season (if possible)
I believe the reason why Tatsuya lost is it because of the ultra light weight of his car which is 1000kg(which is 2200lbs for the Americans) and the fact that the blackbird had a 700hp in it with a RR configuration(Rear engine,Rear wheel drive) so the center of the gravity is very much at the back and the front wheel barely going to lift up if he was gonna continuing to accelerate.
edit:my grammar and spelling its a lil messed up,and basically correct me if I'm wrong.
Tatsuya should have think of a way to fix the lower centre of gravity instead of 100% focusing on carbon fibre only. If he had find a way to balance out these 2 characteristics for Blackbird, it would've been truly equal to Akio's Devil Z.

If any of you have a Sim rig and have Assetto Corsa, I highly recommend the Shotoko Revival Project mod. Basically you can drive the Japanese highway system that connects the greater Tokyo area, which includes the Wangan, C1 Loop, ect. Just look it up on RUclips if you are interested.
