    I use 2- 200 watt Bouge RV Cigs solar panels on top of my RTT fed through a Bluetti AC180. I have been using the Stokes cook system and their electric Kettle pot with french press coffee kit.. I never run out of power. I can use my 12 volt outlet in my truck to recharge the AC180 if needed. Now that they include the packing bag for the kit it is a great setup. I also run a electric fridge with no problem.

    Call me devils advocate, but I feel like the benefits of going electric with a cooking system don't outweigh the usage of input energy they use up. Not only does it cost a lot to get into (making sure your power station is rated high enough & having solar panels that can charge you back up in a hurry), it keeps you close enough to your power station to potentially spill water or something on it. If you're only using the power station for this system then I guess it would be fine, but if you have a bunch of camera equipment, a diesel heater, etc. to charge I think it could get a bit dicey real quick.
    *Side Note: Have you tried an AC to DC converter for running your heater on the Anker? Mine was tripping on kick off when plugged into DC of my Bluetti, but worked just fine when adding the converter so I could plug it into the higher amperage AC socket.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  2 месяца назад

      I will definitely be doing some long term testing but I think it is doable. I plan to wire a DC outlet back to the box to charge the bank of the alternator when driving. Between that and solar there shouldn’t be an issue, hopefully.
      I have not tried and AC to DC converter. It annoyed me that you should even have to. My Jackery 500 can run the diesel heater, a larger bank should be able to. IMHO.

    • @taylorhale1035
      @taylorhale1035 2 месяца назад

      @@AdventureBuilt oh I totally agree! I had to do a LOT of digging to see that not only are each brand's max load's different but even each plug on the same unit can have varying load capacities when it comes to amperage. Sucks that it takes yet another part to fix, but a $30 cord isnt the worst result in the world (especially when we're spending +$1k on these builds...
      And yeah you're right; i forgot about charging while running the truck. But what if you're fridge is already occupying that charging spot? Seems like these builds will never end! lol

    Next level? Not really.....
    The "pan" has very high sides, which usually lead to cooking anything with a spatula or tongs more annoying. Also, those raised sections also make eggs or anything flat, like pancakes, somewhat difficult. Using 13% of that R1500 to boil a pot of water is also very inefficient, a full meal would probably drain half of your bank (and at only 1.1kW, you'd still need at least 4-5 hours on that 200w panel to recharge, at the average output you mentioned).
    There's nothing special about this system aside from the inclusion of the pot/pan bases, which emulate a jetboil and probably help with directing heat and saving a bit of energy. That said, regular induction cooktops are already extremely good at transferring heat to a pan, and the jetboil style baseplate is really more designed to redirect heat from a flame (not a flat cooktop).
    For the $350 it costs for the kettle+cook system, you could buy a good portable induction stove (1500-1800w, more features) and a set of cookware that likely packs down to the same size.
    There are similar power banks with the same or greater capacity and features, and similar solar panels with the same or better output. There's nothing new here at all, just a different brand name.

  • @Gazziza29
    @Gazziza29 2 месяца назад +2

    IMO none of these power banks are suitable for off-road and overland use. 1) Pretty much all the units have only one 12V cigarette port. If you have a fridge that is plugged in full time then you have no other 12V ports to use for your Geyser shower, Diesel heaters, other 12V accessories. 2) Rarely are the 12V ports rated above 10 amps. That means it won't run a diesel heater consistently. Most diesel heaters on start up use 12-14 amps. 3) 12V cigarette ports are not secure. Most 12V cig ports are shallow and do not have locking mechanisms. When you're only rocky trails they are prone to loosening which could cause voltage drops and inefficiency in power your fridge or it could pop out completely and power off the fridge.
    The only battery banks/packs that have a secure locking mechanism are the Dometic PLB40 and the Wagan Tech EX18 with 2-pin DC locking ports. The PLB40 12V ports are also rated at 15A and there is a 12V 2-pin and cig port. IMO those are the only two AIO units with overlanding/off-roading in mind whereas the other units are meant for powering home appliances, drone batteries and back ups for home power outages.

    • @tylaroverturf
      @tylaroverturf 2 месяца назад +1

      Agreed. There's a few other power stations with high output DC. The UGreen PowerRoam 2200 has a 12v/25a 300W Anderson port. The Pecron E1500LFP and E3600LFP both have 12v/30a XT60 ports.

    • @Gazziza29
      @Gazziza29 2 месяца назад

      @@tylaroverturf good recommendations on those other two units. Also why aren’t more companies using Anderson powerpole connectors? Instead they give you dc barrel ports that no one uses.

    • @tylaroverturf
      @tylaroverturf 2 месяца назад

      @@Gazziza29 I don't know. Every power station should come with a high output DC plug imo. I don't even consider a power station that doesn't have one now.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  2 месяца назад

      I agree to a point and have experienced all the problems you claimed. My only rebuttal would be you can’t argue with the convenience and ease of use. I started my journey with a Jackery 500 and will always carry something. Even in my Tacoma with a dedicated 100ah house battery and dcdc charger, I still carry my Ecoflow River as a backup. Better safe than sorry! I do want to get my hands on a WaganTech for some testing.

    • @Gazziza29
      @Gazziza29 2 месяца назад

      @@AdventureBuilt No one is arguing against the utility and convenience of these portable power stations. My point is that most units and the unit you are pimping out here is not equipped for overland use for all the reasons I mentioned above. The same goes for Ecoflow, Bluetti, Jackery, GZ. They offer low amperage 12V outputs, don't have multiple 12V ports and not do offer locking or powerpole ports. Like I said if a company offered a unit with a high amp 12V cig port, 2-pin DC, and powerpole ports it would be a game changer. Except it doesn't exist.

  • @NigelNaughton
    @NigelNaughton 2 месяца назад +2

    If you're worried about an empty propane bottle and you switch to this you will be worrying about a depleted battery. This solves nothing it just changes the method. But of course this is the new, trendy thing everyone will be inundated and coerced to think they need. The overland market is so predictable. Does anyone really want to carry these massive, taking up space, heavy batteries (and subsequent huge solar panels) just so they can cook something they could normally cook with $45 Coleman stove and a $5 propane bottle (that will last for weeks)???!! Have fun trying to recharge that when it is even a little bit cloudy. This is ridiculous.

      He’s talking about renewables. If he’s out on a long trip, he can charge his battery via solar. He wants to use his propane for his fire pit. It’s not “trendy” it’s how convenient it is for each person and location. So it technically does solve something for him, maybe not you, but again, it’s the persons need.
