- Tournaments almost never work out in DBD, they're always handled poorly, however, after BHVR's recent anniversary livestream, who knows, the balance coming to many perks might actually make it easier to organize a tourney!

So they did this to help get more eyes on the game in order to help boost some sales. The only problem is they made their game look like a mess. Imagine how new players are going to look at this game after watching their favorite streamer rage while attempting to play this game. This truly was a disaster at a time when DBD is losing players and needs a strong uptick again.

@@zakereysocey815 I like Evil Dead but it's just an entirely different game. Dead By Daylight was never about fighting the killer, its about the chases and it is set up accordingly. It's like saying you prefer football over soccer because "people don't wanna just use their feet". like they're just different games aiming for different play experiences.

yup. the priority of this tournament was to get their own streams views. it was never about the winning money. its about the money they get from extra eyes on them.
There shouldn't have been strict rules, these people don't even understand how to play the game at all so why are they being limited so hard making the game even harder to learn?
All perks should be open and camping should be allowed.
Of course they aren't going to enjoy the game under these rules.
Also I agree with shroud, finding perks for a new player must be so hard... Why isn't there a search feature put in? It took him SO long to find the perks he was suppose to run

I can agree with "one copy of a perk per team" restriction, coz it makes games a lot more fun, but the rest of them where made for real comp players, who knows how to abuse flaws in design and for the most part knows who they are playing against

I’m a newer player and the perk search function wouldn’t be that useful to me. You slowly unlock them and learn what the symbols are over time. This is a unique situation where fresh, never played players have access to every perk in the game. Search function probably wouldn’t even get used that much with high Mmr players imo but I’m not there so idk
I'm not arguing that for new players, dbd is a mess all around however I do find it funny that if this is a $350000 tournament and no one practiced before hand, that's on you. Imagine if I joined that big of a tournament for cod but never touched a fps title beforehand, I'd look like an idiot.
Yeah, this whole ordeal is more the fault of the lazy streamers than dbd. There was one team that got Dowsey to coach them for just a week prior to the tournament, and that team steamrolled. The rest of them either completely winged it or let someone with sub-100 hours act as coach. They were all very complacent for reasons that I don't personally understand. I guess they're all too rich to care about the prize money.

As a heads up to those who don't know, DBD was one of MANY rounds of this tournament. There wasn't $350,000 on the line for DBD. The winning team, if I recall correctly, earned a point towards the overall rankings of the full tournament filled with other games.

Funny thing is that bitch has apparently been playing the game for 2 years, but she’s just lying to her audience and pretending to know how to play the game so she can pander, her gameplay is abysmal in all of her streams.
This all could have gone so much smoother if they just taught them the basics and threw them in there with no rules

It was one of those weird multi week tourneys where they play like 4 games and a bunch a charity stuff. They pretty much just got the biggest names possible and picked the games out of a hat.

Yeah seriously. Just have one actual DbD player per team and the rest streamers. They could act as a guide and help the new people get set up
A DBD streamer/CC would run rings around a newbie killer though. They should've just organised a coach for each team, like one group did with Dowsey.

Kinda impossible when there were also other games in the tournament. One of which was Street Fighter. Idk how you would've worked that out

this part of the tourney was a mess but tbh i blame a lot of it on the streamers. they knew well in advance they'd be playing dbd and only one team thought to practice, which is the team that won. if you're competing for so much money and you know there's a game in it you've never played before you should at least learn what the game is. some of them were pretty chill about the whole thing but there were a few very big streamers who talked down on the game and kicked and screamed just because they couldn't be assed to learn what it was before a major twitch tournament. also, there was no camping rule but the "experienced" coaches were told to avoid it when they played killer since a lot of the streamers were pretty new and the officials wanted the games to last longer for content sake. definitely not a disqualifying rule tho.
If I remember correctly one of the teams actually prepared beforehand and were coached beforehand. None of the ones shown on there however.
this is super eye-opening; it's insane how difficult it is for newbies. I have nearly 3k hrs as survivor and I'm trying to coach a brand new player and it is so hard to figure out how best to explain this game....there's so much to learn.
depends, are you teaching killer or survivor? survivor is pretty fucking easy to explain, killer is harder because killer has a lot more theory and mechanics to learn
While this may be true, a lot of it also has to do with attitude, and these steamers are showing a really bad one.
Obviously you're going to suck at a new game or thing your doing for the first few times. Especially if the game is a completely different genre than you're used to.
Though for the streamers case I think their attitude was this terrible due to the 350k on the line and poor tournament management tbh.
I played custom 1v1 matches with my friend and they quickly learned the basics, and understood how to use the environment to their advantage, as well as counter-play through mind games within a few weeks. Nearly a year later and he is already a teammate that will do everything in his power to save the team, and is pretty damn good at looping
@@Pedro-vm1vg Even then killer is also pretty easy to pick up as long as you start off with an easy to moderate killer first. I started playing less than a week ago and I'm already winning vs survivor teams with 1k+ hours no problem.
Mechanically the game isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be.
@@107frenchy Sure thing buddy, if they're playing against you its because their mmr is also low, maybe they're just a group of friends that play with fun builds and die every match just to have fun, once you start getting higher mmr and get matched against the survivors that are actually playing to escape, good luck having fun and not getting stressed every single match ;)

I think DBD should have a UI in the pause menu that displays your perks descriptions, in case new players forget what they're running
They need to be smart in order to do that

Everyone had a week to prepare, yet it's clear Shroud, Tim etc. didn't bother. One guy even said this was the first time he even booted up the game.
The rules were stupid, but these streamers just came across as lazy and wilfully ignorant. $350K apparently wasn't worth even the tiniest bit of effort from them.

This tournament really was a disaster lol. I don't know what they were thinking taking a big bunch of people who have never played the game before and putting them in a comp style tourney. Also tho to be completely honest, they are a massive bunch of babies. $350k on the line... none of them thought to i dunno.. play the game and practice? Either way I think they are a bunch of babies. I know Shroud, I know a couple of the others from when I was in to Fortnite. All the shouting and screaming reminds me of xQc trying to play. Let Apex and whatever game they play have them lol.
They didn’t know they’d be playing dbd as it was a multiple game type of tournament where they would play multiple games and at the end have a score they earned from each game so they couldn’t have practiced really

its a causal game, not a party game. A party game is a game you play once month at night when your friends are online. Millions play dbd casually everyday, not a party game.

This demonstrates how hard it is for new players to learn the game. No tutorial for basic looping strategies, counter loop strategies, map knowledge, and pretty much everything.
Almost everything I learned was from watching RUclipsrs and streamers play. The game certainly didn’t help me any, lol.
The tutorial would be like 10 minutes long lol.

you should try dbd on a playstation 4 and see just how laggy and broken it is. evil dead a game that looks better has a bigger map and way more shit lags way less than a game that’s been out for 5 years. during last anniversary and when nemi got added it was literally unplayable and no dbd streamers talked about it since they’re pc. dbd really needs to get their shit together it’s so ridiculous at this point the difference between playing on pc and console is beyond jarring. if they want a fair and balanced game they should focus on fixing the base game

Try it on the switch. It's fuggin awful. I bought it for my switch so my gf and I can play together. We still play often, but certain killer powers are unusable and nearly impossible to play against on switch. I rage quit against nearly every huntress I play because of the awful dedicated hits. My nurse is still busted, I can not blink. Billy and blight do not work. I get 360'd by the worst survivors in the game at the lowest mmrs. Makes me sad because I honestly enjoy killer side more.
Yep, not to mention DBD was the only game among hundreds that made my PS4 fan go crazy, which eventually resulted in it shutting off to prevent serious damage. I had to disassemble the whole thing and replace the thermal paste.
Luckily the PS5 can handle this ridiculously unoptimised mess of a game.

Ima be honest 80% of that was them whining like a baby about a game they’ve never played especially since DBD is very unique compared to the games they normally play, and like 20% of it was valid criticism. I get DBD is hard for beginners especially since I started playing when it was fun for no one around 3 ish years ago, and I know it’s also not really on them because they were thrown in this with no knowledge and a bunch of comp rules so it’s not on them but this was literally like watching a group of 9 y/o playing DBD.

The problem is that DBD is way too convoluted for beginners, i started playing when the game was free on epic games and did the tutorial and still didnt learn shit outside of things that i already knew due to watching videos from when the game came out.
Most of the sistems in dbd arent explained in game, the only thing that the game explains to you is that Killers have to kill and Survivors have to do gens and run away, nothing about boons or hexes or how diffrent perks interact with eachother, doesnt explain ways to deal with atleast the original killers, i for example didnt know until recently that you can flashlight Hag traps and im around 200 hours in.
It doesnt teach you how to properly run from the killer, or the fundementals of looping, the same way it doesnt teach how to use basic mind games to help Killers in chase.
This isnt good for the game, as a new player you feel like the game doesnt want you playing it, and they didnt even experience the worst part about this game, the grind.
its not really their fault but i agree not all of it was valid critism, they would complain about chases and shit when they have no clue how to do anything, not the games fault... they shouldnt have even had this game in the tourney to begin with. its too complicated to learn for a few rounds... also they shouldn't have banned all this shit and made it even more confsuing

This was absolutely horrible PR for DbD. How many people decided to never even try DbD because of this debacle. This could and should have been a spike on the steam charts and brought new players to DbD, instead it highlighted that DbD is a trash game to thousands of viewers.
As soon as this dropped BHVR shoulda stepped up and overhauled the lobby UI and gave us search bars among other things and brought it out of the dark ages. Instead we (finally) are getting perk and cosmetic presets, they are slightly altering the main menu and a whole bunch of meaningless changes coming this fall. Somehow they think that these are good changes while they continue to not bother bringing in QoL changes that gamers take for granted in other games. It took BHVR 5 years to make it so we can select a page number ffs, we can't even make the game stay on that page.
LITERALLY. So much of this would be avoided if they just added a Callout system and a better UI.
The only issue with call outs is if they want the game semi-realistic (I say semi since no way would survivors be running after getting gutted by a hit once, or would they live being on a hook that long but its the entity’s rules idk) then it wouldn’t make sense, thats why they have perks like Wake up that work like a sort of notification for your team to go to that gate or so on. Their not really not worth being perks though which is the issue. So many matches could’ve been saved if you had a way to notify players where you are, or where you need help on a gen, a gate, or where a killer is heading, etc. I wish we had this badly, we already do it over the mic, why not make it so players who want to immerse into the game itself more have the ability to do so and be just as good as party groups
I just don't understand why they don't have a fucking search bar. I can code a search bar in 5 HOURS that's how easy it is. To make a really good, well-defined search bar without bugs would probably take like 20 hours which is still very short. What is their deal with not including basic shit like this?
I would prefer search bars over presets because I rarely run the exact same builds over again. Sure for console I can see search bars not really working too well but there are still good alternatives that will always be better than doing nothing.

OK yeah, this points out some problems with DBD, but what really blows me away is that some of these streamers literally did not even play the tutorial beforehand. Like the guy that was surprised that attempting to get off the hook was killing him when the tutorial literally says in no uncertain terms that it should ONLY be done when there are no other options. I'm glad $350K was chump change for these guys, but... dang. idk man

She apparently has been playing for 2 years, what I believe is that she’s played maybe 1 hour of killer and never plays alone, I know this because in her streams she hardly even plays well, if she played solo she would be flattened in 3 minutes. She annoys the hell out of me
I had to go look her up because I've never heard of her before. I'm not great at the game and I can tell she's not great either and proves that anyone can get to Rank Iri 1. I finally clicked off of the vod I was watching when one of her guy friends yelled at the random for not unhooking him while said random was being chased by the killer and couldn't safely unhook. She even accused a killer of stream sniping when she had ran around two lockers, leaving behind her tracks, before getting in one. Typical baby raging survivors.

Feel like a lot of the problems here may have been solved if each team had a coach for the event who could help them learn the game from - would have also allowed the actual DBD community to be involved with this.
Proof the game isn't new player friendly and not made for competitive/tournament play.

Reasonable guy - Lets do a tournament where we have streamers that all play DBD a lot and know the game well enough to not be lost right out of the gate

1. It shows how awful DBD can be as a new player. Devs have still a lot of work and polishing to do.
2. It was a disaster cause they either had shitty rules or that women was making up rules to confuse other players who were the killer, to get an advantage. In both ways, not cool!
3. Their feedback should have been a good indicator what the devs need to change. Nr.1 a search function for perks. ect.
i mean this is the experience you'd get if you bought the game without any prior knowledge of it, skipped the tutorial and just went in. Most people have some kind of exposure to the game before buying it and understand a few basic things. These numbskull cry babies went in raw

there are 100% completely banned perks and perk combos in dbd comp. like nemesis and rancor are usually banned

In total, they spent $ 350,000 to host a tournament for the most popular streamers to attract new players. However, their experiences are so horrible that they wont play it and advise against playing it.

Even though DbD is a big game, it still seems so, so small compared to other games. Compared to say, league or Fortnite, it’s like an ant to an elephant

This is the same thing that happened with the OTV crew, sykkuno, rae, toast, Ludwig etc they didn't how to play the game and so they felt helpless as survivors and were just confused the whole time so they didn't see how fun DBD can be at it's max potential, it really hurt me cause I love those guys but they didn't bother to learn - the learning curve is quite big though, lots of information

HI Rapid, there were other additional rules, i can remember that you couldn't use any iri killer add ons and could only have one purple add on lmfao. Think it was around the same thing with survivor items

@@notyou9348 We really shouldn't have MMR. Nor should this game ever be considered a tournament type game. Too much RNG and perks and such that you don't know any information on. Like, I don't know what survivors are running (fair enough) and they don't know what I'm running (fair enough) but to combine all of that, plus the fact of no dupe perks, so you have 16 different perks to the killer's 4. And no camping, well sometimes killers HAVE to camp to get any sort of kills, and anyone that tries to say they don't camp, I can bet has camped. Plus to throw in this being BRAND NEW people. This just shows how bad of an idea this is for being a tournament style game. And even people that do know this game, RNG is real. Map RNG, killer RNG (what is the killer going to be), perk RNG (will your perks work, or will the killer counter them?), some maps are better for killers, some better for survivors, some suck equally for both sides.

If they wanted to promote this game they should've let them play like it was a regular match, no limits so they can all try to have fun and not rage inducing. Tournaments with strict rules are for more competitive/ pro players with 1,000 hours on the game. Now that all the big name streamers said they won't ever touch this game again no one would really want to play from their communities besides a small few since most people want to play what their favorite streamer plays.
Some stuff is very eye opening for sure, like the lack of a search option for perks.
But at the same time these big name streamers have a horrendous attitude towards trying to play something new and out of their comfort zone...
I do understand that 350k was on the line here so that might explain it, but that doesn't mean they are in the right.

loved the concept of the game but was put off pretty hard watching afew streamers/vids due to the "rules" that seem to be largely embraced by the community but not actually written or enforced in the game. it honestly seems like the community is its own worst enemy.
One prep discord conference call could have fixed 90% of this. Very funny.
They should never have rules for people who never played before. And dbd actually has a really big learning curve

Why did they get a bunch of people who have never played the game for a tournament with actual money on the line?
That $350000 could have been spent on cross progression!! Maybe that will have more people back to this game, and BHVR being transparent. I don't blame that guy for raging, but they should have all read the rules. I made great rules for a tournament but i'm yet to see if it works.

Like only 6 easy to play killers with 4 easy to understand perks and same for survivors just make it an auto pick so they can focus on the game and get confused about all different perks and play style

Why did they have a DBD tournament with players that don't know anything about the game?
I have only been playing bdb for a few weeks. The general concept is really not that hard to understand. It’s pretty basic. It takes a baseline of effort to learn and understand so I’m not sure why people complain. All games are hard for beginners some more than other sure. It’s not really a bad thing for a game to be difficult. You just need to practice and learn from your losses. This was a competition so of course they’d be upset but if you care that much then put more effort into it. Weird
The one thing that bothered me the most was Shroud playing Spirit and not playing Deathslinger.
The fact a dbd tournament was filled with streamers who never play dbd is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen for a while, and especially for money 😂 just spits in the face of dbd streamers who play just this game
maybe this is why the devs recently started listening to the community, every streamer in this pointed out features that should be in the game that are obvious that havent been added for 6 years

Bro i remember i was watching Dowsey coaching Noko on Killer, what a shit show of a Tournament it was.
There were so many other options, and different ways to handle this. Its big yikes.
for people in the comments not understanding. this tournament was NOT just a dbd tournament. they played like 5 different games. that included games like SFV. they did this tournament to get more views for their stream. long term that's ALOT more money than they would get from winning.
(they easily made double or triple 350'000, just from showing up, sponsor and donations)

this was a "for fun" tournament. it wasn't ever meant to be serious. you have miz and tim. cmon. they also all stream constantly every day they have no time to practice. also tryharding isn't fun to watch most of the time. seeing them scream and get mad is fun. in the SFV tournament shroud was very good and steamrolled pretty much everyone. That didn't make good entertainment for the steam so they stopped bothering to show his matches.
banning them from using perks that they don't even know how to use was very pointless, and adding more rules like camping just make it more confusing for them, you have to remember your 300+ hours and full knowledge of the game doesn't magically come to them within their 5 five games ever. dbd is extremely convoluted with perks at this point and broken that this showing just further proved how bad of a game dbd has become. and seeing the dbd community's toxic response just puts the nail in the coffin for new players that would've ever considered playing this game. this was possibly the best thing that dbd could've ever had happen. all eyes on them. full of big streamers. thousands of people watching. and it fell face first at every single obstacle. no help for new players. broken gameplay/unbalanced/mechanics and toxic community. Its no surprise that this brought in no new players
