My grandparents built a house in Kalispell Montana when I was a 11 in the middle of nowhere Montana we went out for dinner one night and in walks Jim nabors with his partner. I know, Jim Nabors had such a southern, high pitched goofy speaking voice especially as Gomer Pyle. When he sang though he was amazing. He was absolutely solid when he sang. He had the voice of an operatic baritone with total control of his singing range.

He has more wind in his chest than the entire wind section at the end. They gave out before he did on the last note. That's lung and diaphragm control from Jesus. Hallelujah. Thanks Jim.
This was Gomer's finest hour. I adored this segment as a kid, and had my uncle buy a Jim Nabors album. I wore grooves in that record and sang the song for days.❤
In 1965, Joe Darion the writer, Mitch Leigh put this to music and Jim Nabors the singer. All three men made this one of the best, if not the greatest, of all time.
This was one of my dad's favorite songs, and I sang it as his funeral when I was 13. 13 years later, I had it performed at my mother's funeral by a violinist and flautist, arranged by a composer friend of mine. I cry every time I hear it, but this.... This rendition.... I couldn't cry, because I was so in awe of his voice and the raw emotion he put into each and every note. I couldn't cry, because he elicited such emotion in me; he reminded me of the lyrics, of what this song means, and gave it new life in my heart. I remember why my dad loved it so much. Why my mom loved it so much. Why it has been our family anthem for so long. For the first time in twenty-one years, I remember what this song truly means, and I am grateful.

I checked online- Jim Nabors was not classically trained but sang both country and opera. He was a natural baritone. He was a very talented entertainer singer, and actor. Loved his voice.
I was about five or six when Gomer Pyle first aired. Obviously Jim Nabors hooked all of us kids with his hilarious antics. When he sang it just blew everyone away. Made me a lifelong fan
I just saw this RUclips video for the first time but I do remember this episode. (I’m 71 and a former Marine). It was an amazing paradox that Jim Nabors had with his voice. Starting with the Andy Griffith Show (yep.. with Ron Howard) and then on to the Gomer Pyle spin off.. the high pitched almost tenor voice was grating with his natural Alabama accent (OK … I’m from Macon Georgia so of course an Alabama accent is grating - LoL) and then when I heard him sing for the first time on a talk show ( I seem to recall it was the original Tonight Show…) I was blown away at this rich bass baritone voice that was nearly operatic. He was the real deal. Great memories - Thanks whoever posted this.

I remember seeing this and being shocked at his incredible talent! ❤🎤❤️
Many don't realize he had a singing career and made several records
I remember all the commercials advertising singers and every time a commercial came on about him I couldn't believe how great he sang.
I have chills. That voice was amazing🎉
His singing voice is pure magic! And singing this particular song sung at this moment in time did a great deal to life the hearts of millions!
This brings tears to my eyes, and I don't do that often...
This is the first time I've ever heard this song, but OMG! HE NAILED IT! I knew he could sing but didn't realize what an incredible voice he had until now. PERFECTION AT ITS FINEST.
I heard him sing this at the Houston livestock show in 1969 .He filled the Astrodome withe sound to a standing audience.
Aaawwww ❤ That gives me goosebumps!!
I checked online- Jim Nabors was not classically trained but sang both country and opera. He was a natural baritone. He was a very talented entertainer singer, and actor. Loved his voice.
The best version I ever heard.
I also sang the song "The impossible dream": ruclips.net/video/jeVLPuStg-g/видео.html

Good God, I remember watching this as a kid! It was like, Gomer can sing!?!? As I recall, this was a shock to all the Gomer Pyle fans.
I was about five or six when Gomer Pyle first aired. Obviously Jim Nabors hooked all of us kids with his hilarious antics. When he sang it just blew everyone away. Made me a lifelong fan
He had such a rich and beautiful voice

His "Golly" voice was a comedy act...he actually had a great speaking, and definitely a great singing voice...he was truly multi-talented...
Jim is the man. What a voice. Andy Williams is a close second stunning song.😁❤Ruth
Stunning. And the orchestra was exceptional. Bravo USA!!! Together we stand, divided we fall.
There are simply no words to define Jim Nabor's performance.
We all forget how beautifully he could sing. Thank you so much…..
Just the motivation I needed today. Who knew?
Still listing to this song over and over.

A pure gift ❤
I grew up by the Indy 500 track and attended many races. I got to hear him sing there. His voice was amazing.
