jeff beck is the most innovative guitarist on the planet most guitarists try to shred and use distortion to cover their licks but jeff's playing is melodic and full of expression
Breathe taking.. Wow these are the type of professional musicians I would die to play with.. This is an amazing, unique take on a Brian Wilson masterpiece that only Jeff Beck can pull off and make his own.. Just WOW
Brilliant interpretation of Brian's masterpiece here by Jeff .. & wonderful backing by Brian's band .. all class, the whole way thru ... the entire DVD is a MUST-GET !!
Jeff Beck is the best electric guitar player on planet Earth and has been for most of his career. Most famous guitarists agree - I've read countless interviews with famous guitarists of say his name when asked who blows them away. Clapton said "on a good night, no one else can touch him". I've seen him live 6 times since the early 70's up to a few years ago and he has always left me breathless. And he makes it look effortless. Still vital in his 70's.
This is a clip taken from the wonderful DVD recorded 11th Feb 2005, of the "MusiCares 2005 Person of the Year - Brian Wilson - A Tribute". A must-get for any serious BW fan (Amazon.com). This clip featuring Jeff Beck is truly one of the A1 Best-Picks, out of the whole array of fabulous artists featured on the DVD. PS - fans should also get a hold of the double box-set DVD entitled "Brian Wilson - Songwriter, 1962-1969" (also from Amazon.com). These are 2 very worthwhile collectors items.
I don't understand all the people complaining about this rendition. Beck does a really excellent rendition of the vocal line, almost like a concert musician interpreting a classical piece, and then when it goes into the Child is the Father of the Man choral bit he does a nice little exploration. It's a very nicely done rendition, and I suspect people just tuned out early because Beck wasn't going crazy from note one.
No more to say. Look at all those young shreders that are after beeing as good as Satriani or Vai None of them dares to touch Jeff Beck. He is a unique phenomenon...
Hello 2 years ago. My ears dont like this very much but you're right (I think) that it's sentiment is very apt - from a talented musician to a... whatever title you personally give to Brian Wilson. xxx p.s. All I do is try to play guitar and sing so I'm CERTAIN I can't do better
Viuomar Agreed. This was a benefit with a bunch of Hollywood-types. They were just there to be seen and did not appreciate the genius they were fortunate enough to in the presence of. I saw this last night on Avis cable channel and was totally blown away by this performance.
Dear Jeff, I appreciate your influence on music and your inimitable guitar playing style. I also appreciate the fact that you have taken time to pay tribute to Brian Wilson in this unique and reigned in fashion. However, and forgive me for being blunt, but please could you find it in your heart to PUT SOME FUCKING LONG SLEEVES ON FOR ONCE. Its like they've grafted Ronnie Woods turkey wottle face flaps on to your arms..
I wrote: everybody except musicians. Music has such a wide range (from classical to Jazz to Rock etc.) and so many different styles (Spanish, Country ´n Western, Picking, Metal etc.) - who could tell that there is the best. Right: noone.
The whole point of that was that Jeff is playing tribute to Brian's melody. That night (I was there) was all about Brian, musically. Plus the MusicCares aspect of it. Everyone knows JB can shred the best; Jeff was saying "everyone knows Brian is the best melodist, and his melodies sound awesome on my guitar as well."
It’s funny, I think that’s most of Brian’s band Beck is performing the song with. Not sure how much of that was convenience or if he just felt comfortable with executing his cover with the only musicians around who played it for SMiLE back in 2004 and probably had the best grasp on it.
With Scott Bennett...in happier days ! Isn't there a version out there with Brian Wilson on stage too ? It's too bad they never finished that album they started together.
No one could pull this off besides the Sleeveless One. This and his "Day in the Life" are both great tributes for those that can appreciate them.
Such great songs done by the Master, greatest guitar player EVER.
jeff beck is the most innovative guitarist on the planet most guitarists try to shred and use distortion to cover their licks but jeff's playing is melodic and full of expression
A truly epic composition by Brian Wilson and given a new slant by Jeff Beck.
The best guitarist playing the best song ever.
Terrific...this is the best rock song of the 20th century...Jeff does a great job in tribute to the genius of Brian.
Brian Wilson's greatest composition. This will be his legacy in one, two, three centuries from now. Just like the Ninth of Beethoven.
Breathe taking.. Wow these are the type of professional musicians I would die to play with.. This is an amazing, unique take on a Brian Wilson masterpiece that only Jeff Beck can pull off and make his own.. Just WOW
That's Brian's touring band. They are incredible. Only Jeff could pull that off.
I'm crying. Really, I am. This is THAT GOOD. Unbelievable.
Surf's Up is so beautiful it usually brings a tear to my eye. Didn't think a Jeff Beck version would - but it did...
Brilliant interpretation of Brian's masterpiece here by Jeff .. & wonderful backing by Brian's band .. all class, the whole way thru ... the entire DVD is a MUST-GET !!
If you leave this kind of music behind, then when you die, you don't really go away.
Awsome song and done to perfection.
What terrific guitar playing this is. Jeff Beck's brilliant work makes Brian's wonderful song even bett
Gorgeous playing by Beck - a beautiful cover and tribute to the genius of BW.
Saw this live, some guy screamed "When are you guys gonna sing!?"...I'm thinking Beck IS singing.
My God, My God
Plus they did not even play freebird as requested
Heathens!!!!
@@stubdo16 Absolute dinosaurs.
Wow! What an amazing interpretation of a sublime BW song. Only JB could do this. His guitar sings.
The best of any & every world - transcendent.
Rest in peace. Always thought his performance of this was very tasteful. I love how much he can pull out of a guitar.
R. I. P Jeff Beck. . . a musician's Musician. A peerless virtuoso on Guitar. Soar with the Wind Mr. Beck~
🌌~ ☆

The ending here with the harmonies and the guitar sounded AMAZING. A nice tribute to the genius Brian Wilson.
Thanks for posting this, only someone as sensitive as Jeff Beck could interpret Brian's music with such tenderness.
no other guitar player could do this.. or challenge himself to do this.... one of a kind,is Jeff.
This is SOOO good.
Brilliant. He makes it look like nothing at all. I never gave Jeff Beck a second thought until now.
Man.. I just can't get enough of this. I've watched this just about everyday for the past 3 or 4 days. He really is the best.
As beautiful as the original. His playing is eternal. Unbelievable.
Beautiful, and the fadeout is what I would imagine music in heaven to sound like.
Beautiful, and etherial....Jeff is amazing.
I bet Brian loved this.
Lovely tribute to this extraordinary song.
I know just what you mean, that part gives me the chills. Brian Wilson writes some great music.
a tribute to Brian, its beautiful
YOU may be totally overrated, silly troll.
MrSKINFLICK huh
MrSKINFLICK are you not American or not a native English speaker? I’m confused by that statement.
He isn’t dead yet.

Doesn't get any better.
Beautiful!
the best electric guitarist since the 50's plays the music of the greatest composer since the 50's
Wow just wow! Vince Gill did a nice sing of this as well.
I agree. He's showing everybody how sophisticated this melody is...
Wow - This is a rare treat Brian Wilson meet Jeff Beck
Other guitarists are satisfied to hit all the notes. Jeff did his playing inside the notes, in places those other players never visit.
Fantastic job! Amazing
Beautiful !
Brian and Jeff,I love it.
Oh..absolutley incredible...Brilliant !
Absolutely beautiful,I hope Brian is proud,I'm sure he is.

That last minute. Dreamy!

This is fucking sick! Listen to Jeff's tone! Going to see him tomorrow night!
Agreed. Virtually anyone with a guitar could play the notes. Don't get me wrong.... great song... great guitarist.
Ce toucher tout en subtilité convient tout à fait à cette perle de Brian Wilson.C'est magnifique.
Thank you so much for posting this!
It definitely illustrates the huge range of octaves in the song!!
Absolutely awesome.................
Wow, how cool is this!?!!!
Stunning. As usual.
Chills. Tears. Beautiful.
BRAVO.....WOW....When the GREATS colide....MAGIC!
this is such a cool song. Good job Jeff-ro!
Very cool guitar work. I'd like to hear David Gilmour give it a try.

Never gets old!

Brian was impressed with this and felt he had to work with Jeff. They are now in the studio together and will be touring later this year.
That comment aged like milk. That BW/Jeff Beck tour turned out to be a fiasco.
totally genius,
2:22 Great Volume Effects, Sounds alot like Brian's Singing at that Part!
Very nice to listen too indeed!
fucking brilliant, what can you say...sublime
No more to say. Look at all those young shreders that are after beeing as good as Satriani or Vai None of them dares to touch Jeff Beck. He is a unique phenomenon...
I love you Jeff - and you must be congratulated for attempting it - but I wish you'd left this perfect number alone.
THE MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF & SPEAKS VOLUMES WITH NO LYRICS!!
Grazie di esistere
AWESOME control of the dinamics!
Impressive the powerfull and the subtle notes...
Simply Amazing

What this people are doing? Drinking and talking to the waiters while Beck is playing Surf´s Up?!!! This is not music for restaurants!
Viuomar Agreed. This was a benefit with a bunch of Hollywood-types. They were just there to be seen and did not appreciate the genius they were fortunate enough to in the presence of. I saw this last night on Avis cable channel and was totally blown away by this performance.
Beautiful
Good to see Nigel Tuffnel showing his sensitive side.

Yes, this is Brian's Band .
amazing.
I'm not a big Jeff Beck fan but this is amazing.
