    Excellent reaction. 'Megitsune' has regularly topped fan polls for favourite song, I think you just found out why. It is also a staple in their live shows - they have played it in the vast majority of their concerts ever since it was first introduced. It's one of those songs that everybody can sing, jump and dance along with and the whole crowd can get involved. I think it is the perfect example of a BABYMETAL song, it brings in some traditional Japanese elements, it goes hard, Yui and Moa get to lead the crowd chants and Su's vocals are mesmerising.
    The breakdown in the middle uses the melody from an old Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (cherry blossom).
    There are so many good live versions - Metrock 2015, Budokan Red Night (or Black Night) from 2014, Metrock 2016 they had everybody in the crowd sit down after the breakdown and all jump at once, Legend 2015 at Saitama Super Arena was just spectacular ... the list goes on, but I would suggest one of those for a reaction to a live version (I think only the Budokan ones in that list are on RUclips though).
    That wasn't the Kami Band, it was dancers from the lady in the fox mask who did the fan dance during the breakdown's troupe with traditional instruments. You won't see the Kami Band in any official video that wasn't filmed at a live performance.

    • @Detrucci
      @Detrucci  4 года назад +6

      Oh I see, the kami band didnt do the recording either?
      I know that Legend is the highest quality one apparently. If I was to do that one I would definitely need to do that whole link and sync type thing.
      I also agree, MEGITSUNE is definitely a perfect blend of Babymetal

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 4 года назад +10

      @@Detrucci We really only know that guitarist Leda Cygnus of the Kami Band has been involved in any studio recordings. Some of the others may have been but we just don't know - their role is as the live support band for concerts.
      Yes it will have to be link & sync for Legend 2015 unless you can get your reaction on another platform like vimeo or reactorhub and just do a short RUclips video to provide the link to that.
      The official videos are all good, so I hope you do react to them, but as you know, live is where they excel and where they sound best too (largely because Su's voice is over-processed in the studio). Nobody will object to you reacting to both the live and official videos if that's what you want to do - most of us would welcome it.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩
    @Detrucci That's very interesting that 'Megitsune' and 'Rondo of Nightmare are among your favorites.
    Yuyoyuppe, the same guy who wrote 'Rondo of Nightmare' did the song arrangement for 'Megitsune'.
    BABYMETAL's producer Koba had him go through over 30 versions before he was happy with the mix for this song.
    I know they're in white robes, but these guys are not actually the Kami Band. : )
    The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
    Chidori Yakumo is their director and choreographer.
    She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
    When Su-metal pulls out the tanto (short blade) she says:
    "Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo." ("Maidens… should not be underestimated.")
    It's also a line said by a gangster's daughter in the film 'Kiryu-in Hanako no Shogai' (1982), by actress Masako Natsume.
    It was released in the USA as 'Onimasa'.
    I know you get told to concentrate on the live performances, but I think this music video is essential viewing.

    • @Detrucci
      @Detrucci  4 года назад +1

      Oh that is such a coincidence that both of my favourite songs are arranged by the same Yuyoyuppe. Does he/she have any others? :)

    • @rickwagner-
      @rickwagner- 4 года назад +4

      @Detrucci Yes he sure does.
      He's been a contributing songwriter and arranger on quite a few BABYMETAL songs.
      Besides 'Megitsune' and 'Rondo of Nightmare', Yuyoyuppe (also known as DJ Tekina and Yuppemetal) worked on:
      'BABYMETAL Death', 'Uki Uki Midnight', 'YAVA!', 'Karate', 'GJ!', 'Sis. Anger', 'From Dusk Till Dawn', 'IN THE NAME OF', 'Kagerou', and 'Night Night Burn'.

  • @markmark6378
    @markmark6378 4 года назад +13

    Megitsune means "female Fox" And is a bit about females being actresses and how they can hide their emotions, even their sadness. When Su pulls out the knife from the mic she says something to the effect that females should not be trifled with. The truth be known, not sure if any of the actual Kami's play on the studio version of this song. I believe the musicians credited are named with pseudonyms. Kitsune by the way is male fox and this is pretty much where the Kitsune hand sign comes from. ( two middle fingers resting on the thumb pad with the two outside fingers straight up.) When you make that sign, think of shadow puppets and how the outline of the shadow looks like a fox head. This song is a monster live and the crowd interaction is just supreme. Even heavier live and Su just commands everything and everyone.

    I was super excited to see you chose the official MV. There are a few that I think can be argued are a great first listen to a Babymetal song: Megitsune, Karate, and I, D, Z. Great reaction!
    How did I get from Van Canto and Pentatonix all the way to Detrucci doing reactions to Babymetal?!? I'll spare you the full tale, but will say this:
    Megitsune was my intro to Babymetal. RUclips had been suggesting this group to me (almost to the point of annoyance) and I finally caved to the pressure. While a bit put-off by how young the trio were here, I was really taken with Su-metal's vocals. And, yes, that incredible breakdown. So I watched more of the official MVs. I thought, this is great, but just a short-lived project, the girls will grow up blah blah blah... Until I watched Road of Resistance (Live in Japan). Then I knew they would have some staying power. Karate was released shortly after. Then I asked the question, how did this happen? (As Scott Hoying of Pentatonix did in the FBE reaction video on Babymetal.) So now I know all the names of the Sakura Gakuin members of 2010 - 2014 and many from later, the short-lived Karen Girl's, and recently a few of the Morning Musume members around the same time as SG.
    Life is strange and wonderful.

    • @Detrucci
      @Detrucci  4 года назад +3

      Oh wow :) When I did Road of Resistance at first I was really smiling during it but i wasnt fully 100% sure on them yet. I did Rondo after that and once I heard the heavy instrumentation there and the stage presentation, I was sold :D

    That's the thing with Babymetal. Everyday you'll have a different 'favorite' song. It's so hard to pick one, they are all great in their own way. But, this has always been one of my favorites songs (and music videos). It's just so good. It makes me feel something I've never felt before. Also, I'm glad that you did the M/V. I do agree that Babymetal are better live, but there are certain songs that I really think are better with the M/V (like Megitsune, Karate, Doki Doki Morning, line!, etc). Another great reaction man, what else I can say. I just love the way you express yourself, and how open minded you are. Nice one. I know everyone says 'live' is best but if you don't watch the music videos as well then you miss out on some little gems. In this one you saw the microphone knife, in Headbanger you miss the neck brace that you then see in at least one other live video (Death) and you may even see some fans wearing/carrying and think WTF. In the MV for iine the middle section is different to what most later live versions show, I wont say how it is different, that's for you to find out but I will say this, once you think that Babymetal cant surprise you any more watch that MV, and the live as well if you want. There are probably other examples as well that I cant think of just now.

    Hate to disappoint you but that is not the Kami band. It's a studio track performed by whoever and the people in the video are acting. Whoever they are. There are tons of live videos with the Kami band performing this song. It's one of their most performed songs.

      @@POWER-LINKS What? I didn't intend to make a big deal out of it, but since you insist: Assuming you are talking about how an English speaker would pronounce those syllables:
      me is not pronounced MUH; it resembles the me in "men" (not quite, but much closer than MUH);
      gi(t) is not pronounced ji(t); the leading g is a hard consonant like in "guitar";
      (t)soo is OK;
      ne is not pronounced nee; it resembles the ne in never;

      "me" like in "men"
      "gi" like in "give"
      "tsu" like in "tsunami"
      "ne" like in "nemesis"
