Great reaction. 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite song and has been played live more than any of their songs. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in this video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals (yes that was screaming you heard) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo.
and the strange thing is: If Kobametal hadn't the idea of letting them sing METAL, no one outside Japan would know them probably. Luckily they can blow us away with every performance. And ANY song is ok, only the live ones are better most time...Try No Rain No rainbow and get tissues ready...In this clip I like Yuis gaze like a little puppy at 8:54 most.
Most reactors who are new to Babymetal will react to Gimme Chocolate or Megitsune or Karate. Be prepared for Megitsune breakdown its haunting. It always gets to reactors who do not expect it. Great reaction and Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤟
Here we can know how the Japanese created an international metal band. Their lead singer, group members, choreographers, music, lyrics, bands, and costumes are all the best and full of traditional Japanese cultural characteristics. It's amazing!
One thing I particularly like about this song is how BABYMETAL and how Japanese it is... two things... two things I particularly like about this song... nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...sorry, drifted off bit. :-) The Japanese like to adopt foreign or new concepts and fuse them with their traditional ones, and that‘s just what this song does. The lyrics talk about the role of women in old times and today, the music starts with the traditional sounding melody and then continues with modern sounding electronics, the breakdown mixes a traditional folk song melody with badass modern Metal, the dance moves feature traditional and modern elements as well, the „sore“ chants are taken from traditional matsuri (festivals) and put in a modern context. It‘s all very cleverly put together into a perfect representation of both BABYMETAL and to some extent Japan.
Our 3 weapons are Supprise, fear, ruthless efficency, fanatical devotion to the pope , oh shit our 4 weapons are supprise ,fear, ruthless efficency, fanatical devotion to the pope and nice red uniforms 🤘🤣🤘
I wasn't really into baby metal when I first heard of them but they have grown on me and have become quite popular they are doing their own thing and that's what is so great about them.
Very happy you did this song and the MV version. Usually we all would say stick to live performances but with Megitsune you can't go wrong with the MV. Same with Karate. I absolutely love when reactors get blown away by BABYMETAL because that's how I felt when I first watched their videos. I was so blown away that I had to look up the next video and again I was blown away. Next video...yup blown away! Next.... damn, again! I spent an entire day or two watching anything and everything BABYMETAL lol. That is why I started to watch reactors to see if others had my same reaction. Made me happy when you could see them fall into the fox hole too. BABYMETAL is the only band where I don't skip any of their songs on any album. Of course I have my favorites though. And the songs that I don't like as much are still great and only get better when I see these girls perform them live. BABYMETAL takes everything to the next level when they perform. I agree with others that No Rain No Rainbow should be one to react to soon. It's a Su solo. Try for the Legend S version. It was Su's birthday and homecoming show to Hiroshima. Then for the Black BABYMETAL dynamic duo of Yui and Moa you should react to BABYMETAL - Onedari Daisakusen ruclips.net/video/Ne-kEw84-f0/видео.html
Great reaction it is megitsune- ay., Su was 15 and Moa and Yui were 13 or 14. headbanger legend 1997 is the next one you should do. The greatest show on earth sod Hugh Jackmans greatest show on earth. headbanger legend 1997 by Babymetal is.
You had it right the first time - MEG-IT-SOO-NAY. Fantastic reaction - as always! Your genuine joy at Babymetal and Band-Maid is infectious so please know that you're spreading happiness and causing smiles all around the world with your reactions! Babymetal have what is definitely the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek (come on, other Metal bands, try and keep up - it can't all be about Satan, Halloween masks and industrial construction equipment) and this live version starts with a solo from each of the four Kami Band members - 2 guitar solos, a bass solo and a drum solo - and then goes into a brilliant and heavyAF song with the best choreo ever - oh, and you'll like this, it comes with English subtitles so you can sing along! ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html Kitsune up! 🦊🤘🤘🦊
The person with the basic idea for this project, Kobametal, is a genius. I'd really like to know what the reaction was with those he first proposed this to. 🤭 And one thing is for sure, without these girls the whole thing wouldn't work. To pull all this of at this age deserves the utmost respect!
Tsunami is a great word to describe Babymetal's style of music! This is one of my favorite BM songs, they go so hard in this one. Thanks for making my morning JJ 😊
You think they're young here, you should check out Doki Doki Morning. Or you can go back further and watch Suzuka Nakamoto when she sang Over the Future with Karen Girls.
Babymetal Trivia: When Su was still living with her family in Hiroshima, she used to steal her elder sister, Himeka's, clothes, which pissed off her sister mightily.
This song is already a classic from them and one of the most play it live, also the MV is one of the early Babymetal showing them so young and full of cuteness along with Doki Doki Morning, li ne!, Headbanger and Ijime Dame Zetai. Anyway you got right, Babymetal is a force of nature, they still young and we still have chance to see them live, sadly without Yui Metal, but don't worry, they're still so awesome. 🦊🤘❤️
Two things about this MV: Asagaya Shinmei Shrine where this was filmed is an actual shrine in northern Tokyo. It has become the "BABYMETAL" shrine. If you go here you will always find BABYMETAL fans. And at 8:24 of your video when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are running back and forth in the what I assume is a train corridor, they get their feet tangled and MoaMetal actually goes down. You can see how fast she disappears from the shot. GREAT REACTION!
one of the first things that happens in the MV is the pull off the traditional cloths from Su. That right about when the guitars kick in. Thus freeing Su to be something new. A question of changing was or as Babymetal does add to your ways. And if you think they can't you should know " maidens are not to be underestimated" . Also the part where Su is combing her hair is taken from a Japanese horror film. Sorry I don't know the name of it. GJ with the reaction. The song and the MV have alot of subtle meaning behind them. ok some of it isn't so subtle. One last thing, the lady dancing with the fan is their choreographer.
You should go all the way back to the beginning. DOKI DOKI MORNING. The official MV. Yui and Moa were only just teenagers back then. Beware of super cuteness overload. 🦊🦊
If you wanna see them in earlier videos .. check out Doki Doki Morning (12 and 11), Iine (i i n e), and Onedari Daisakusen (just Moa and Yui when they were 12 or 13)
Great reaction Jen, when she pulled her tanto mic there (small katana/dagger) she said, "maiden.. Should not be underestimated!" This song is about girl power, go dig the translation lyrics and you might fell in love more deeper into this song! Next i suggest HEADBANGER! From Legend of 1997 live concert. Keep the good work Jen, and keep them coming.
The fans love this song still performing it now . During the breakdown Su starts talking to the fans and there is lots of interaction with the fans. There is normally a huge surge from the fans i got moved about 10 feet and plonked right in front of Moa and got a huge smile from her 🤘😍🤘
Do you want be overloaded with how young and cute they were when they started? Then watch "Doki Doki Morning", it's their absolute first music Video :D
Loved your reaction to one of my favorite babymetal songs. Please do "Doki Doki Morning", "Headbanger (official or live versions)", "Iine", or "Akatsuki".
In an interview they said the choreography for Megitsune was the most difficult for them. Su said "Maidens are not to be underestimated" when she unsheathed the knife. It's from a Japanese crime movie and said by the crime lord's daughter. You did notice that Su had the Knife/Mic in her hand for the entire MV? Also did you notice Moa falling? And the "band" for their MV's are not necessarily the Kami band, they are Amuse session musicians.
I always wondered if anyone else noticed Moa's extremely cute slide in one shot and the super cute fall in another. Like was the fall a blooper they kept because it was so cute? her smile on the way down was hilarious.
saw them in philadelphia and they were awesome ! the song mean the power of women i think . next i recommend to listen to "shine" it's a tribute to their lead guitar player who died recently- Moa plays his guitar i the song
Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Did I come earlier than Gington300 300 or Rick Wagner who give you better comments than me? BABYMETAL played this song in the 2 shows last week at Budokan and I witnessed their great performance at the venue. I was about to die for joy! We could not, however, shout or chant because the audiences were not allowed to make a noise in order to comply with requirements against infection. We contained our excitement and only moaned under the dual mouth covers (our own mask + a mouth cover with BABYMETAL logo distributed to each audience). It was necessary though to protect ourselves and more importantly protect BABYMETAL team (the girls, Kamis and their crew and staff).
@@JustJenRx Yeah! it was extremely tough but we have to. Studies reveal droplets coming out of mouth is the main vehicle of infection to others. It was a little bit helpful to hear recoded shouts and chants prepared by Amuse. With those sound effects, we could keep silent only giving standing ovation all through the show. And I was about to cry when Su shouted "Hey guys! I have been looking forward to seeing you" and "We can be standing here owing to you guys. I really appreciate you all coming today!" It is us who should thank BABYMETAL.
The Queen (Suzuka Nakamoto) and her princesses (Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi). BTW, Su doesn't do the Nihon Buyo (traditional Japanese dance) part. Yui and Moa were so young when they filmed this...this was when both of them were still under 5' tall. Bye, bye Yui...and RIP Mikio.

Great reaction, thanks! In my opinion, this is the most representative song of their whole own genre, the kawaii metal. It's so Japanese, so heavy and so cute at the same time and I guess that is what makes this song one of their most loved classics. This one and "Akatsuki" are my favorite songs, probably ever. Great reaction, Megitsune is my favorite Babymetal song. Normally I prefer live versions but this MV is really good. The performance at Red Mass ( only female fans) was awesome, when Su said "otome wa name tara ikan zeyo" (Maidens shouldn't be underestimated) the crowd exploded. You should check out Road of Resistance live in Japan and/or No Rain no Rainbow at Legend S if you haven't seen them yet.
For newer content I highly recommend the Trilogy of Light. Starlight, Shine, and Arkadia! My current favorites. Cannot go wrong with Amore, Yava, or Syncopation either!
no, "otome wa" is what tells you it's about young women in general (or "maidens" as you've put it). "nametara ikanzeyo" just has the sense of "it'd be regrettable if you underestimated [us]".
I guess the middle really heavy part with the pig squeal .. the chord progression comes from a well known Japanese song .. kind of an Easter egg (saw that on another reaction) .. and btw it’s pronounced May-geet-soon-ay .. love your honest reactions Jen :)
Kitsune (Kit-soo-nay): fox spirit in traditional Shinto belief Megitsune (Meg-it-soo-nay): vixen (mother fox) It may have been uploaded 6 years ago, but I'm pretty sure the song came out 10 years ago. Su was 15 and Moa & Yue were 13.
Seeing that you’ve reacted to BabyMetal and Band-Maid, might I suggest Unlucky Morpheus? Start with Cadaver/Revedac. Then you might wish to look into their Album “Quadratum” which is the band without the singer, Fukui, or the lead guitarist, Shiren. All instrumentals and, I promise, you will not miss either. Videos have been released of covers of Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen and Dream Theatre. Wagakki Band is another rabbit hole to fall into.
I would have LOVED to go east a little and see Babymetal at Rock on the Range. That said, whenever I see these early videos, I'm somewhat glad that I didn't become a fan until just recently. For me, there's no nostalgic attachment to Yui; it's as normal to me to see her as it is to see one of the Avengers. Also, don't fuck with Su. She'll cut you.
hey sister u need to do songs like LINE - DEATH LEGEND 1997 -YAVA - AWADAMA FEVER - HEADBANGER all live & i bet u gonna love them btw they are heavy songs too ;)
Just to let You know Jen without checking out BabyMetal i would ve NEVER learned about Band Maid. Probably the Best BabyMetal Song in my opinion are Karate and The One Live at Budokan.
I’m not picky and just wanted to let ya know but there was a high pitched feedback the whole video and I haven’t heard it in any of your other videos. Other than that awesome video kept doing you!!!
oh look at you ms hollywood and the new fancy graphics in the begining :) i give babymetal props, cause they helped me find band-maid. babymetals band hardly ever gets credit. su's voice seems like it never changed. and i always knew moa was going to grow up to be a stunning goddess. but ofc she cant compete with your beauty jen. #jen_nation ok my mouth hurts from sucking up so much to you. hehe peace gurl.
When she pulls out the knife from the mic and says (Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo.) "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated." now that's METAL... o.k. so now lets kick it up a notch. This video is always recommended when people say BABYMETAL is not metal. Good stuff Jen Jen!
Onna=woman, kitsune=fox, megitsune=vixen, female fox.
Women wear masks to hide themselves from men, to deceive them, but not in a bad way.
Women don’t wear masks to deceive men. They wear masks because society forces them to. They wear masks to protect themselves.
Just recently discovered Babymetal......a few months ago.....Have to say......this is fricking AWESOME and refreshing!!!

It may have been uploaded 6 years ago, but I'm pretty sure the song came out 10 years ago. Su was 15 and Moa & Yue were 13.
Seeing a BM consert is fantastic so amazing. I saw them i Stockholm last year. Amazing. Love to se Momoko ❤❤❤
The awesome part is that the idea of blending metal into the J-pop format was the girls' idea. Literally "ok but can we make it metal?"
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, however since you enjoy Megitsune. I am sure without a doubt that you’ll love Karate by babymetal.
Yep! It’s on my list!!!
Band Maids New Video for After Life is amazing i allready watched it like 4 Times.
I’m waiting until my new furnace is installed!!! No spoilers homie!!!

This is one of their greatest hit. Check iine official MV it’s another great one 🤟🏻🦊🤟🏻
Teenagers .. yeah Su is 15 and Moa/Yui are 14 if they made the video in 2013
You must react to either Doki Doki Morning or Ijime, Dame, Zettai Sonisphere 2014
Here You have Su, Moa and Yui-metal commenting this video with English subtitle! ruclips.net/video/tXCC93Txtnw/видео.html
"They look like LITERALLY teenagers here"... because they LITERALLY WERE teanagers here =)
I Love your Tsunami comparison.
Jen. You didn't say it wrong. Megitsune "e" pronounced as "e" in wet, set but the vow is a bit longer .
Thank you!!! 🤗
hey sister u need to do songs like LINE - DEATH LEGEND 1997 -YAVA - AWADAMA FEVER - HEADBANGER all live & i bet u gonna love them btw they are heavy songs too ;)

Baby metal/band maid/ Love bites
#jen_nation ok my mouth hurts from sucking up so much to you. hehe peace gurl.
btw this is my fav babymetal song. have you reacted to this yet ? ruclips.net/video/GvD3CHA48pA/видео.html

🍅💀🤘
It hurts me that you picked the recorded version and not the live version. They sound so much better live
When she pulls out the knife from the mic and says (Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo.) "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated." now that's METAL...
o.k. so now lets kick it up a notch.
This video is always recommended when people say BABYMETAL is not metal.
BABYMETAL DEATH Legend 1997 (Complete)
