Honestly one of the hardest fights in the game. When I first started fighting Nightmare Grimm, I was amazed at how fast he moved, and I almost deemed it just impossible, like an Easter egg boss that you can't really beat. My main cause of death/getting hit was when i dash forward thinking he was gonna do the dash attack but he dashed backwards, and there are moments when i really have no other choice but to tank a hit
You know, once you actually learn his moves and don't die within seconds of entering the fight, Grimm easily becomes one of the funnest bosses in the game, took me a good couple hours to beat him but everything about him is so cool that I didn't even mind dying a few dozen times.
i just beat this boss a few minutes ago, but i was like dying too much at the beggining, but i dunno if will work for you, but i focus all my attention in how is the most efective way to dodge, then i try to get in a few hits, my key charm was the Glowing Womb Charm, the rest Life charms, and play mega-buster style

When I got really close to beating Nightmare Grimm, my heart was beating so fast it didn’t make me feel great. I lost focus and died, but I managed to beat him after a few more tries.
Then you should’ve felt almost 5 others when I did him on radience a couple of times in a row so I got good practice on him for the Pantheon of Hollownest
So i finally beat him myself and here's how. I equip every HP increasing charm at my disposal and just went in and did nothing but dodge to try and learn his patterns. No attacking, just dodging. It took a few dozen tries but eventually I got his patterns down and when I went back to actually fighting I was doing SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. The key to this fight is DODGING. Don't always attack, just get swings in when you can, you don't have to counter every move.
flukenest the fuck out of him...it works (Defenders Crest+Flukenest+Shamans) = MASSIVE increased damage (like 164% or something) when he opens his cape up (to use the fire-bats or w/e) go in and spam Fluke....thats how (several guys I know have won) its the "cheese" way to do it...but its still a win, a fair win. After Years of not playing any vídeo games. My son asked me to buy him this game, and i was like ok bud. He is crazy about the knight and pretends to be the knight fighting arround the house. One day I was curious about why he loved this game so much. I watched some videos and i realised that it is pretty similar to Castlevania SOTN, which is my favorite game of all times. I started a Game file thinking: i beated SOTN back in the day, HK will be a piece of cake. How wrong i was. The game is Hard my ass has been kicked. Nkg i hate tha bastard he was a pain in the ass. The game is also beautiful. It was like being a kid again. My son was always laughting on me when i had hard times with the bosses, but was also crazy happy that we were playing togather his favorite game. Thank you team Cherry for such a beautiful game and thank you pal for helping me out on beating NKG. He is a great boss and has really hard Dracula vibes. My son just said: look dad this is MR Dracula in hollow knight but the knight is more powerful. When we finished the game my son said thank you dad for playing HN Wirh me He gave me a hug and said I love You dad. I had tears of joy. What a great game is holliw knight Peace out
I know you made this video a while ago, but in case you see this I wanted to let you know that watching you do this gave me the determination to finally beat the boss! :D Had to bang my head against the wall for a while, but I finally did it. Thank you!
Shape of Unn (or whatever it's called) allows to you to heal when he fires the bats at you as you can go underneath them, and attacking only when he summons the flame pillars made the fight a whole lot easier. Took me 100+ tries to learn his attack pattern though haha.
Usually, you fear everything as everything is dangerous and will tank your health in seconds. But then you get skilled enough at the game and something like "No Damage Nightmare King Grimm" will come and prove that the real being to be feared is *YOU*
Just defeated this dude 15 minutes before I typed this comment, to my fellow Hollow Knight players or those who wish to play but don't have the game yet, understand that this is by far one of the toughest bosses. I can't give any advice no other RUclipsr or Reddit user hasn't already, this guy is the epitome of TRIAL AND ERROR and there will be LOTS OF ERROR. My charm set up was (not including Grimmchild) SharpShadow, QuickSlash, NailMasters Glory and Unbreakable Strength.
i heard people say this is a fun boss and i thought they were crazy 40+ tries later i love this boss he was a pain in the ass at first but learning his moves and timing is act fun
Once again, another youtuber showing that the Grimm fights are like a dance. Amazing. Seeing these Grimm fights makes me appreciate the boss so much more.
Lol this guy literally took me 4 days and over 150 tries till I finally did it. I was legit wondering for the first couple days if I just wasn’t physically capable of doing it, until I did.
I LOVE SO MUCH how this bossfight doesn’t feel like a fight for me, but more like a dance. Once I treated the boss as a dance, something clicked and I started to beat him more often in Godhome. Easily one of the best bosses in the game.
This is actually the only boss I can semi-consistently do no hit on that isn't Gruz Mother or False Knight (those two are just piss easy) for some reason this boss fight just clicked for me after a certain point and can defeat him every time since. What a fun and fair fight, beautiful and terrifying song accompanied by just stunning visuals. They did a great job with this particular boss.
MrDontSmokeKids Yeah, I know what you mean . At first he seemed freaking difficult, but there's a point where I just " got it" and my next try was so much easier.
Realistically everyone should be able to beat the mega moss charger without taking damage. Literally just dodge his first potential jump attack and when he dashes towards you you can literally hit knock him back until he dies, it's great. Also Broken vessel is relatively easy, just don't get too aggressive and watch out for bs jumps. And honestly I only get hit around 3 times when I'm fighting the Mantis Lords but maybe that's just me.
Normal people : I don't know what the music sounds like after 1: 30 minute because I always die there This guy : I don't know what the music sounds like after 1: 30 minute because I always beat nkg there
Baldur shell sucks, shape of unn and quick focus can create a healing opportunity by themselves. Heal during his flame pillars attack, it works so long as you don't just move continuously, move intermittently so that you will have enough space before reaching one of the sides.
His awesome design His insane badass theme The insane atmosphere around him His insane fight I mean everything thing just makes him the coolest character / boss in the entire game
I've been gaming for damn near 30 years and I've never had more trouble with a boss.. while I can admit I'm not very experienced or skilled at platformers and Metroidvania games, I haven't had many issues with this entire game outside of the final trial in the Colosseum. That took me about 20x total. I hear Bloodborne has some really tough bosses so I can't factor that into my experiences, but even in the Dark Souls series I've never had this type of trouble. My biggest complaint is that his attacks take off 2 damage and I need to waste charms on bringing along something that doesn't even help me during this battle.
what's up, i think i broke the world record (hitless) and i agree with you, the grimm nightmare is one of the hardest bosss I've ever seen. ruclips.net/video/53bgl2obTKA/видео.html
lol, the final trial in the colosseum took me like three tries. The first two tries I died to primal aspits. The only reason I did it in so few tries was because for most of it, I just sat on the wall with the three weaver song spiders killing everything on the ground.
Not only is is jaw dropping to see him hit the damn bat so many times, bit its really intresting to see what dodging stradgies he came up with compared to me, like I never thought about dodging bats that way but both methods work. Very cool!
Once you grind for days on end and learn his patterns while executing it flawlessly and not getting hit once, and having a good charm setup. But other than that, it's pretty easy.

“I’m good enough to face NKGrimm.”
Nope, still got my ass handed to me.
Lol
Wtf before I know the DLC has come out, people already beat the boss???
To be fair it's actually really short... i think it's just something to hold us over until the Hornet DLC.
^ last 2 cps were really short, assuming the same for 3rd and then Hornet Expansion will hopefully be huge.
They seem to be slowly increasing in size.Next one might have 3 bosses.
Hornet DLC...right.
Mr. R Gods and Glory is huuggeee tho
0:20 uh.. EXCUSE ME?
He was by far the first member of the Great 3 that I've managed to beat, and also the only one I didn't use any funky charms for
The great 3? Absolute Radiance, Nightmare King Grimm, Pure Vessel? im sane enough to not try to beat AbsRad. no thank you. 112% completion is enough for me
@@Eirudy_Marionette_Deity Yep, but just regular Radiance instead of AbsRad. She's even higher than the Great 3. I didn't reach her yet tho, stuck at P5 Collector.
Also for now I'm only at 111%, can't beat Colo 3
@@FromtheTriangle i hate Oblobble and Sisters of Battle
@@Eirudy_Marionette_Deity Oblobbles suck but are doable, Sisters of Battle was the only boss in the entire game that I managed to beat on my first try
I always appreciate it when boss playthroughs spare a few more seconds on the video to show the epilogue to the fight. It’s like givibg the audience as well as the player time to breathe after the absolute insanity. Too many people cut off the video the very second after the boss is defeated.
I got dunked on so fucking fast the first time, that i promised to return when i have everything done, and got dunked on again even faster
You are a literal god, this is no doubt the hardest boss in the game
*_*Pure Vessel has entered the chat_*
*false knight kicks the door*
*Mighty Zote waddles in like a damn penguin*
Gruz Mother: *exists*
oblobbles radiant: enters your nightmares
Grimm's theme is fire!
Easily one of the best boss themes out there, along with Megalovania
Fighting NKG literally gave me hand cramps. I had to try so many times
When we finished the game my son said thank you dad for playing HN Wirh me
He gave me a hug and said I love You dad.
I had tears of joy. What a great game is holliw knight
Peace out
I know you made this video a while ago, but in case you see this I wanted to let you know that watching you do this gave me the determination to finally beat the boss!
He uses every opportunity to get an attack in no matter how small the window!!! Truly impressive
His music is the best theme of hollow knight.
Change my mind

That parry was SO CLEAN. I’ve NEVER been able to parry Grimm just because of how fast he is.
Usually, you fear everything as everything is dangerous and will tank your health in seconds.
But then you get skilled enough at the game and something like "No Damage Nightmare King Grimm" will come and prove that the real being to be feared is *YOU*
Haven't gotten to him yet but i'm expecting it to be very... flamboyant
Ghost: I have no fear!
*Nightmare King Grimm*
Ghost: O-ok, now I have got one fear...
Arguably the hardest and most fun boss in the game. Finally beat him after so long but I'm glad I did so, he was so much fun!
After you beat the 4th pantheon you see how easy this guy really is tbh (at least he's easier than Pure Vessel okay)
@@dorol6375he isn’t harder then pure vessel?
It’s interesting to watch these videos later, now that we know how to almost perfectly optimize every fight.
Me: oh yay I finally beat false knight!
This video: *exists*
Me: Oh...
i heard people say this is a fun boss and i thought they were crazy 40+ tries later i love this boss he was a pain in the ass at first but learning his moves and timing is act fun
2:04 - I don't feel good, Mr. Pale King...
Grimm looks so cute when he does that pillars of flame attack. I'm just in love with that.
Once again, another youtuber showing that the Grimm fights are like a dance. Amazing. Seeing these Grimm fights makes me appreciate the boss so much more.
He only took me about 1,5 hours to beat.
My charms:
-Grimmchild
-Unbreakable/Fragile Strength
-Sharp Shadow
-Dashmaster
-Sprintmaster

I find this attack sequence so cool
Lmao grimm has noclip turned on
You know It became a trauma when you hear the ost and have a odd feeling for not hearing "SEEH" "FAH FAH FAH FAH"
I love how in the second half of the fight the nightmare heart begins to light up and grimm's screams sound more painful
You have to respect this man's confindence for going into a fast, 2-damage boss while overcharmed
That way if he does get hit he can lose faster to start over.
Sitting here watching you get as many hits in a single flurry as I've gotten on all my attempts combined
Wow, you're good...
*NOW DO IT WITHOUT WAYWARD COMPASS*
Bro now that's just impossible
Fireb0rn is good and all, but that's straight up impossible, even for him
The compass is cheating its basically jornalist lvl easy mode the devs designed the boss to be possible without the compass
And just to drive the point home you were overcharmed as well.
Might as well if you’re going for hitless
I finally beat NGK and honestly.. it might just be the best boss fight I’ve ever done in my life
Absolutely love this fight, shits hard first couple times, but once get a rhythm going it becomes a dance of survival
Lol this guy literally took me 4 days and over 150 tries till I finally did it. I was legit wondering for the first couple days if I just wasn’t physically capable of doing it, until I did.
this comment gave me life
I LOVE SO MUCH how this bossfight doesn’t feel like a fight for me, but more like a dance.
MrDontSmokeKids
Yeah, I know what you mean .
Mantis Lords and Hornet for me are hitless paradise
NKG and Sisters of Battle were the best fights for me. It felt like dancing to an amazing beat. Such a masterpiece of a game. Just Incredible!
Just beat him today after 18 tries! I'm so happy right now. Beating NKG the for the first time feels really good!
Normal people : I don't know what the music sounds like after 1: 30 minute because I always die there
This guy : I don't know what the music sounds like after 1: 30 minute because I always beat nkg there
Beat him today and my charms were: Dashmaster, Sprintmaster, Sharp Shadow, Lifeblood Core, Fragile/Unbreakable Heart and the required Grimmchild.
And here I am face tanking 50 blows with balder shell, quick focus, and shape of inn
Baldur shell sucks, shape of unn and quick focus can create a healing opportunity by themselves. Heal during his flame pillars attack, it works so long as you don't just move continuously, move intermittently so that you will have enough space before reaching one of the sides.
I gave up healing after 50 or so tries and used Joni's blessing with fragile heart instead
when he dies it is a pretty cool animation.
Its just something that makes him my favorite boss in the game idk why
His awesome design
His insane badass theme
The insane atmosphere around him
His insane fight
I mean everything thing just makes him the coolest character / boss in the entire game
@@purehollow truee the only boss i had fun with
I've been gaming for damn near 30 years and I've never had more trouble with a boss.. while I can admit I'm not very experienced or skilled at platformers and Metroidvania games, I haven't had many issues with this entire game outside of the final trial in the Colosseum.
@@papauzburzum9775 For me, Zote is much harder.
lol, the final trial in the colosseum took me like three tries. The first two tries I died to primal aspits. The only reason I did it in so few tries was because for most of it, I just sat on the wall with the three weaver song spiders killing everything on the ground.
Here's a tip:
*If the namecard is full screen. You aren't ready. Even if you've don't Path of Pain, you aren't ready*
YESSS finally killed him. FFS that took over three sweaty hours of constant resetting. But man, coolest boss in the game for sure.
the epic awesome music makes replaying (and replaying and replaying and and and) not so bad
Not only is is jaw dropping to see him hit the damn bat so many times, bit its really intresting to see what dodging stradgies he came up with compared to me, like I never thought about dodging bats that way but both methods work. Very cool!
I feel threatened
1:53 scream?
This boss was quite fun to fight. Yeah he kicks your ass for the first few hours, but when you finally learn his moves...
It's like a dance.
Once you grind for days on end and learn his patterns while executing it flawlessly and not getting hit once, and having a good charm setup.
But other than that, it's pretty easy.
Yeah, basically every boss in the history
I had no idea that his black ghost with orange eyes during his stutter was actually hittable. I beat him very recently and it took me over 20 tries.
