Mandalorians have been a cornerstone of the Star Wars canon all the way since Boba Fett's introduction in 1980 with The Empire Strikes Back. But it wasn't until 2017, amidst the Sequel Trilogy to George Lucas's Star Wars Saga, when Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy hired filmmaker and Clone Wars cast alum Jon Favreau to direct the first live-action Star Wars series for Disney Plus, that Mandalorians would come to define Star Wars for a whole new generation. Joined by Dave Filoni, and inspired by the gunfighters of the western, the ronins of samurai flicks, medieval knight-errants, and Boba Fett himself, Favreau alchemized a space western like none before it. A battle of order and chaos at the silver-plated heart of a wandering gunslinger, The Mandalorian.

I thought maybe mando was bound to become the next... Mandalore. But it just occured to me.... maybe Grogu is going to be The Mandalore. Raised by a Mandalorian, with the gifts of the greatest of jedi. Perhaps he will even complete his own version of jedi training. just some maybes etc perhaps he might even come across The Holocron created by the original Mandalore who wielded the dark saber. There isnt one in the star wars lore yet, but it could suddenly appear. if you feel like throwing these ideas out in a video maybe it will happen?

The more people who embrace that - like Favreau and Feloni (and many "fan film" makers as well) have, the more will find success in making new Star Wars material worthy of the Lucas material.

Gideon is so manipulatively empire evil its deliciously devilistic. The dark saber HAS to have more story line shown at this point. To interesting and compelling. I agree completely that these two are perfect new bad guys to have on screen instead of the emperor (again).

I’m not even sure how to articulate how grateful I am for this video. All of your video essays elevate projects I already hold near and dear (clone wars, bad batch etc), but I couldn’t have imagined how great this mando breakdown would be.
I seriously cant even put it into words. If i could only “keep” one video in all of youtube it would have to be this lol.
If i tried to list all the amazing details this comment would be as long as the video, but there’s one I want to bring attention to. In the S2 finale when Bo Katan whispers “a jedi” is one of my favorite small moments of the season, her almost mystical sounding delivery and recognition is amazing. The way you edited the segment at 1:41:23 elevates it to another level and adds this incredible extra context to the scene even if you’re familiar with all of the other source material.

All the characters here are at different stages on their journey and it’s brilliant.
Mando is struggling to continue his journey while being reluctant to change, being bound to a code he’s unsure of.
Greef Carga is at the turning point of his journey, finding a way out of what Mando cannot.
Boba has had his journey and is bound to the code of a bounty hunter, but is willing to break it for the benefit of others.
Fennec has chosen her path in the bad batch but is now realising that bounty hunter is not all she has to be, and changes her ideals to align more with Boba.
Bo-Katan has lost her way and is now trying to find it in the darksaber.
The Armourer has bound herself to a code that she believes in but isn’t willing to shake it, ever
Quill has found his peace and knows his code is the one he wants.
Moff Gideon is unwilling to shake his world view and has no code, only the want to further his power.
Ahsoka is however the selfless version of Gideon, who will do what she must to empower the powerless

Except all of this is barely shown. We don't know what even is his code besides the helmet rule (which he takes off in front of opened window and imperial scanner for no reason at all, because it shouldn't even work on him) and what is his journey besides bounty hunting and protecting Grogu.
"Finding a way out of what Mando cannot" - what does this even mean?
Boba is willing to break his code - why? Because Mando left his ship opened so Bona could walk in and take his armour back?
Fennec changes her ideals - what were her ideals and why does she need to change them to align with Boba if they both are bounty hunters?
Bo-Katan always tries to find the darksaber and doesn't care about any code, only her own benefit. She worked with Pre Vizla who was going to kill her sister and take the throne, but rebelled against Maul when he took his place...
Again, we don't know this code and what we do is contradictive. "Beskar is for armour, not weapons" - holding a darksaber made of Beskar and forging whistling birds out of it..."The existence of the spear puts us in danger" - oh sure, in the world of blasters, lasres, rockets and bombs the spear is the real danger (which a human can't push hard enough to stab through armour..although you can just stab unarmoured half of the body)...If you ever removed your helmet, you're not Mandalorian, so now there are only two of us, but you can keep all Mandalorian stuff...
What is Quill's code? Constantly repeat "I have spoken"?
Yeah, and Gideon likes to kill stormtroopers, the only army he has left who aren't recruited anymore...
Ahsoka empowers the powerless...except Grogu who she doesn't want to train because it's dangerous but also doesn't care if somebody else trains him...

Parkes, you continue to describe in plain language the vast impact of "what Lucas did" with Star Wars, not just the film, but the lore, the principle, and the legacy of Star Wars. Thank you once again for putting a finger on the feeling that every Star Wars fan who loved Mando couldn't quite place. Overjoyed too that you've launched a patreon, you deserve to be compensated for the sheer hours of passion you devote to these masterpieces of modern media. This examination of Din's journey made me cry at more than 5 points.
You went far into the western and samurai stories I had heard of, and brought out what he must've been feeling.
You also made a connection to the cameos, that made sense to the story, not just with the connections I was familiar with.
I liked the show already, but i was getting burned out on Star Wars.
I never felt the depth of what he went through until you brought it up and the fact that fate was demanding more and more of him, despite him being tired, to make him _balanced_ as all in Star Wars must push toward.
This is the kind of character examination I love hearing.
    Thank you.

Edit: I'm only 25 minutes in and I'm blown away. Your writing has improved so much (not that was ever bad mind you) that it's honestly as good or better than really good TV documentaries. Also we gotta acknowledge the editing. Holy smokes the opening sequence sets the viewer up to expect a high level of quality and attention to detail which amps up the dialog all the more. The music and video clips work great but then you added sound effects on top of all that for sword clashes and blasters etc.. Absolutely great

I have some friends and family that haven't seen The Mandalorian. They really want to get into it and they're always asking me a ton of questions about...
well, all of it. As one might assume, if they haven't seen Mando, then they probably aren't huge fans of Star Wars in general. So I get asked all kinds of questions about the entire galaxy... all the time.
NOW, I can send them this! This video essay is simply superb. The way "Artorr" is able to take subtext, subplot, overall themes, etc.. and juxtapose them with the inspiration for Star Wars and even mix in some of his own style and inspiration and love for this galaxy far, far away.. is inspirational itself.

This is truly two hours well spent. The weaving of the Hero’s Journey from the start of the Mandalorian saga and lore to the real life asphalt of the open road that we have all travelled the last few years is spectacularly done. I found myself emotional at times as I remembered my own past as a scrawny nine year old in a movie theater in ’77 and how my life has played out over the last 45 years. This is truly the heart of what it means to be a fan of this franchise and the subtle lessons that are passed to the viewer in its undertakings. Your love of it comes through over and over again as the two hours pass by quite quickly and I found myself wanting more as the credits and end message arrived. Thank you for this one!
