  • Super Bowl XIV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Los Angeles Rams
Super Bowl XIV was an American football game between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Los Angeles Rams and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Pittsburgh Steelers to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 1979 season. The Steelers defeated the Rams by a score of 31-19, becoming the first team to win four Super Bowls. The game was played on January 20, 1980, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and was attended by a Super Bowl record 103,985 spectators.[3][4] It was also the first Super Bowl where the game was played in the home market of one of the participants, as Pasadena is 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Downtown Los Angeles.
The Rams became the first team to reach the Super Bowl after posting nine wins or fewer during the regular season since the NFL season expanded to 16 games in 1978. Their 9-7 regular season record was followed by postseason wins over the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers were the defending Super Bowl XIII champions, finished the 1979 regular season with a 12-4 record, and posted playoff victories over the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Oilers.
Despite the final score, Super Bowl XIV was a close game for the majority of the contest. The Rams led 13-10 at halftime before Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw connected with wide receiver Lynn Swann on a 47-yard touchdown pass. Los Angeles regained the lead on a halfback option play with running back Lawrence McCutcheon's 24-yard touchdown pass to Ron Smith. But Pittsburgh controlled the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points with Bradshaw's 73-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver John Stallworth and running back Franco Harris' 1-yard touchdown run. Despite throwing three interceptions, Bradshaw was named Super Bowl MVP by completing 14 of 21 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns.[6]

Total respect for Bradshaw . After this game, he told his father he wanted to retire because of the migraines he was experiencing from all the pressure of winning it all. He said it was the hardest game he ever played. Yes, the magnificent Stallworth made two HOF catches down the stretch, but I believe that the Steelers won this game because of the leadership of Terry Bradshaw. His focus, his maturity and leadership is what held them together down the stretch.

You make some good points I remember this game like it was yesterday The Steelers is definitely a legendary team probably the best ever but to be real John Stallworth should have gotten that MVP Trophy Bradshaw had to many turnovers Bradshaw who definitely is one of the best ever just didn’t have his best game Stallworth really came thru in the clutch and still today Stallworth does not get the respect due him he is one of the best wide receivers to ever play.

@@emmanuelwilliams6004 I also remember that game, my first Super Bowl. I idolized Swann and Stallworth, so if Stallworth had been named MVP I'd have had no problem with that. But recently I rewatched the game, and at the start of the fourth quarter, with the Rams leading 19-17 and Bradshaw having thrown his third INT, we hear Pat Summerall saying, "There's Bradshaw on the sidelines with coach Chuck Noll." Tom Brookshier says, "Yeah, don't count this guy Terry Bradshaw out in a big game like this!' And sure enough, a little while later Bradshaw hits Stallworth with the 73-yard bomb. I guess in a game of that magnitude, lesser QBs would have lost their confidence after three INTs. Bradshaw kept it and his team together.

@@jadentrez I feel you I am a little older than you this is one of the Best Super bowls ever played. I played football 🏈 and people don’t realize just how tough those over head catches that John made really are with out defenders jumping after the ball . Stallworth was defended closely and unlike the receivers of today he had no glovers on . John Stallworth is my Favorite receiver of all time he would dominate in todays game perfect size and his hands were golden not taking anything away from Bradshaw he is a HOF QB 4 Times Champ !
