you made a little mistake on the snare gate when comparing pro-g with standard gate. it seemed like standard gate was eating up the snare's transient too much but looking at the UIs of both plugins it was revealed that pro-g had lookahead being dialed in hard while you barely touched it in standard gate. apart from that i'd say you're totally right and standard gate seems to have more flexible options. with its ratio control i wouldn't even call it a gate anymore. that's an expander really

I understand where you would think that.
I found that both lookaheads performed differently for some reasons standard gate works better with very short lookaheads where prog seemd to work better with longer lookaheads, hence also the difference.
I optimised both to sound their best with the source material.
Pro g has a lookahead of 10ms max where standard gate will go up to 100ms, so that wil also help in looking like a huge difference on scaling on the dial.
And where does expander end and gate start ;-) Both have a range dial and if you turn that on up it really get's into expander territory anyway.
