I actually wouldn't have cared whether Isabelle Hupert or Natalie Portman take it home, but Emma Stone for La La Land... No offense, that decision was a bad joke!
Why should we be generous to someone who can't act and undeservedly soaks up praise that she doesn't deserve? I see no reason to soothe the ego of a Zionist who supports rape and believes that the recession was fun.

And they're doing it again. #stopportman
She's got the accent down, but I can't get over the fact that she looks more like Audrey Hepburn when she made Breakfast at Tiffany's. She's just too classically beautiful to play Jackie, who had unusual features to say the least.
Petrus Delassio - Jackie had glamour that not many other people have. It's hard to describe. She wasn't conventionally attractive but she had the X Factor. So did Marilyn Monroe.
No matter how the movie turns out, Natalie Portman seems to be the best thing about the movie thus far. She has Jackie's look, appearance, presence, mannerisms, and voice down really well.

I'm stunned by how many people have commented on several videos and are completely clueless to the Kennedys. This is part of American history people (referring to the US citizens). People that are interested in watching this movie should sit down and research this family, Kennedy's time as president, his assassination, Jackie's background and life after her husband's death. There is plenty out there, all you have to do is read. So when you sit down to watch this movie, it will all make sense.
I don't think it's possible to make a fair judgment of her acting performance just by watching this short scene. But I already appreciated how some of her expressions and appearance in general was similar to Jackie's =)
I see alot of people talking about how Natalie doesnt resemble Jackie physically that much and while they're right I think people are missing the point, Natalie as nailed Jackie's tone and expressions down, as well as accent, it's like when Michael Fassbender played Steve Jobs, yes he didnt look exactly like him but his acting was so good it doesnt matter, I believe that also applies to Natalie Portman in this movie.
I know people used to talk like that, but she sounds weird and not that 'organic' whispering tone ladies used do because looks like she's doing a huge effort to do so (I watched an interview with the real Jackie). In a certain way, looks like she relied on the whispering waiting that would hold a good interpretation. Let's wait for the final and complete result.

Uhh...hmm. This has had rave reviews so far but I'm not sold. The hand-held camera is annoying and inappropriate and Portman doesn't feel natural. The Academy will probably lap it up though.
Well I generally dislike shaky-cam anyway and it feels especially wrong for a stately historical drama; like Larrain is trying hard to say "look, these could be real people, you could really be there!" when that's obviously not true. That's how I see it...but yes, I'll reserve my proper judgement until I've seen the whole film.
+me123 The hand held camera is annoying to you because it is your own ignorance. A hand held camera that follows the characters like this is great for a historical drama because it creates this authenticity and we feel like we are following these characters perfect for this type of film. Also i guess you hate emmanuel lubezki(3 time academy winner who also has made some of the best shots in this century). Also i guess you have never heard the real Jackie Kennedy speak. Natalie Portman perfectly captures the real person.
She is really good. Very watchable. Yet, the makeup artist could have dedicated much more effort. Sad! First time I heard Ms Portman will play Jacqueline Kennedy I thought to myself it won't be hard, she could really resemble her physically with the aid of a professional stylist. To my disappointment, what has been released so far does not tell so. The actress earned rave reviews for her performance, but still I am one of those who believe the portrayal should not overlook the facial features department. I've read the role was originally offered to Rachel Weisz (of equally sharp features just as Portman but with a face more angular...), it definitely was no coincidence she was a first choice. Again, and regardless... can't wait to see the whole movie.
Sometimes too much makeup isn't a good thing. Look at J Edgar or LBJ. It's distracting. I think the actor doesn't have to look exactly like their character as long as they can get in their mind. Michael Fassbender didn't look like Steve Jobs but he was fantastic.
I wasn't thinking of excessive makeup, definitely not. I'm not an expert but I imagined that experts do master certain tricks/techniques/effects that could show a difference. No disagreement with what you've said, I still admire Portman's performance.
Problem is, Jackie's eyes were so far apart, and I can't think of any makeup technique that would be able to capture her features, unless you're talking about using CGI and that would interfere with the performance itself... LOL
Mrs. Kennedy wanted to walk behind her husband's coffin, to the church for his funeral. If she walked, the Kennedy brothers would walk and then world leaders who had come for the funeral (such as de Gaulle) would sort of be obligated to walk, as well.
