A kind advice: please folks, get the book and enjoy the ride. It is hands down one of the best sci-fi thrillers out there, ever.
When you then watch this "masterpiece", you can still enjoy the pretty pictures if you like.
There is so much left out, so much potential wasted - no wonder Frank walked out on the production team early on.

This tv-show feels more like something from CW, there's lots of bad stuff in there, quality-wise, if you know the book, stay away!
The book itself, I listened to the audiobook & audioplay, is faaar surperior, though certainly not perfect, it kinda get's boring at times, but it's still very interesting.

@@maxschmidt666Schätzing distanced himself from the series because the makers missed the chance to transfer in our time where the environmental and political problems are even worse than 20 years ago when the novel hit the bookstores. There's also too much drama according to him.

The novel written by Frank Schætzing was so spectacular that i couldn't dream of watching a movie any time soon at the time the novel was written. So I'm excited now!

I read the Book 15 years ago and dreamed of a really big movie. We have a series here in Germany and it’s a real bad s$£t! I got more hope in this series.

The series started out great and some of the events depicted (Orcas) are eerily relevant, but the ending is even worse of a let-down than Bran Stark getting on the Iron Throne.

Germany here. We've watched this series in April already and i can absolutely recommend it.
Because you haven't read the book. I have to say I stopped watching at the beginning of ep. 5. - compared to what it could have been, compared to what it should have been, given the original, it was like watching a car crash in slo-mo. Simply awful. No wonder the author left the production team early on when he twigged what a bunch of imbeciles did to the story.

But it's the same problem the book suffers from. After the Storega-effect the tension drops massively, sorry.
I might have read the book around 15 to 20 times, last time beginning of this year.
@@dirkmichalski9024 Well, I totally side with Frank Schätzing on this one: his reason for walking out of the production was "es pilchert mir zu sehr". I admit I never saw a Rosamunde Pilcher movie. But then: I didn't watch "Der Schwarm" to the end, either. I would never have imagined this.
@@thomassturm9024 well, it's an adaption made by several public networks and is paid at least in germany by fee payers so the involved ZDF is responsible for a few million public euros and to hit the taste of a most widespread audience.
I agree i'm not fine with the ending and with some characters. Netflix or Amazon could've done a better adaption but for now this is the best we could get.

All I saw, recognized, and understood was the movie was made from "The Producers of Game of Thrones". All I have to say is " GIVE ME A BREAK!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! After the problem they caused ( for not only HBO but also the GoT universe), why would anyone in their right mind allow David Benioff / D.B. Weiss to produce nor storywrite for any movie or tv show!! Hollywood should have gotten rid of them after their fiasco a long time ago!
