And getting worse. Because we keep repeating same mistakes and holding on outdated broken concept of public transport. We had better public transport before WW2 with trams, but after the war we never rebuilt it and instead we cling to 'Jeepneys' are our main backbone, because it's "Filipino ingenuity" reasons and "for masa". And we kept this for decades even today. It's been proven that it doesn't work at scale and the boundery system (if there is even called a system) is broken from the start. There is a reason why successful cities and countries that are know for best public transport don't use the same system we do. We treat public transport just like the USA do, but with far less money and less discipline and less systematic. Public transports are 2nd class for people who can't afford a car and instead we should build roads and people with money to buy cars even though it's not sustainable on the long term. Traffic got worse since Philippines economy did get better and more middle class that have money enough to afford a car, which contributes to the problem. We invested more on roads than good public transport. And we cling with Jeepneys.
Latter parts also explain it all. Private vehicles, tas ambagal pa matapos mg mga railway systems which could actually atleast alleviate the damn problem
Despite numerous changes in transportation in the Philippines especially with modern buses and jeeps plying in metro roads plus new highways, traffic still exist in the metropolis.
Highways won't solution to traffic. They will encourage to buy more cars than commute. The only way to solve it is More Trains, Develop Other Areas, And Make Cars More Expensive
There have been attempts to 'decentralize' the metropolis in order to ease traffic. However, these efforts have fallen on deaf ears with our policymakers. Why? Because they are entangled in their own business interests, which may be directly impacted by this move.

I am now living in the province commuting is just a breeze. I see the same problem of commuting for the general public in Metro Manila at present time...
I went to culinary school in Makati back in 2010, commuting from Las Pinas. It was pretty fun at first, but 4hr lab classes could get tiring. Had to get up at 4am to make it in time for 7am classes, but I was used to that and at least finding a seat was a given. Then we started OJT and other live trainings, which basically meant standing on a bum knee for 10 hours. Then we also needed to have FOH OJT for some stupid reason, in BGC, which basically meant standing around waiting tables for even more hours. Often, I'd clock out at around 10pm to get home at 1am because the busses would still wait to be filled--but that's the best case scenario. If my shift ended at, say, 5pm; either I wait to risk trying to get a seat on a new bus and get home at 10, or fight to get onto one that's about to leave and stand in traffic until I get home at 9. I was often late; when I reasoned it was because of traffic, I was told to just wake up earlier. What kind of culture is that? I pay tuition, work -as a slave- for free, and lose my health and sanity in the process? No. No no no no. Snuffed any interest I had in the service industry. We had an American immigrant instructor who was floored when I told him my commute was 2-3hrs.

Dati akalain mo Amante since like I said magkahawig noon ang LGS at Amante, pati Lawin jeeps.

Magcocommute sila just like in any other developed country.
Drastic change requires drastic measures. Kahit subway pa matapos if 15 years to complete naman, it makes no difference. But some people actually had a good life up to retirement with their daily commute taking them only 5 minutes one way.
The following administration of Fidel V. Ramos (RIP), he initiated a reform in transportation system, which includes reviving the North Haul line of PNR (Which is now reincarnated as the NSCR Today) and the South Hall line. However, the Asian Financial Crisis happened, thus our transportation system screwed up until some of them were revived by the Arroyo, Noynoy, and Duterte administrations.
Time will tell if these rail projects are going to be the solution. Feel ko it's the same problems we have with the MRT in that, while it helps commuters get to a certain point, they still have to be reliant on another form of road transport to get to their respective destinations. Would be nice if in every stop there's a transport hub with a bus carousel.
I know this has been going on for a while now but it doesn't help that they appointed an SMC tollways CEO as the DPWH secretary. Ang weird din na yung background ng transport secretary is in the aviation industry... but then again I'm not an expert, lol.
I never knew that there is an english telecast way back then (likely kasi wala pa atang ANC) during those times.. and if it's 1989, I'm still very young back then.. For the problem itself, if gumawa lang talaga ang government ng ways para mag expand ng business or ibalance sa ibat ibang region, sana doon din nag focus ang tao para mag hanap ng work. Sobrang urban sprawl or congestion ang nangyari sa NCR, while not being able to widen the roads
English talaga yung The World Tonight and kahit ABS-CBN for the most part. Nung nag-shift sila sa tagalog programming in the late 90s, nilipat nila sa ANC yung TWT. As for expansion sa provinces, ginagawa na ng ibang businesses yan. Kaso walang pumapatos kasi mababa sweldo pag sa probinsya which is stupid kasi parehas lang din naman presyo mga bilihin at utilities.
@@undustfixationang nagpataob lang naman sa mga English newscasts sa late night is ang GMA Network News when Mike and Vicky began reporting in "Taglish" hanggang sa naging full Filipino na siya. So other networks had to respond. TWT stayed for a bit longer pero eventually hanggang ANC na lang siya.
Riding the MRT/LRT is prolly the worst transit experience in the world, you shouldn't need to go through a 15 minute security check line before you get to the fare gate. The transfer at Taft Ave is miserable. At least there's aircon on board now, not like when I was a kid.
Just to add to that: E-jeepneys are overrated, and the reason why I quit my office day job and went the WFH route. People tout it as some kind of revolutionary game changer when it's a claustrophobic, unbearably hot, and unbreathable hell hole. That's why I'm more of a fan of keeping the existing jeeps but regulating their maintenance.

Magcocommute sila just like in any other developed country.
Here we are in 2024 and nothing has changed in the last 40 years.
Same same problem since 1989 up to now
Drastic change requires drastic measures. Kahit subway pa matapos if 15 years to complete naman, it makes no difference. But some people actually had a good life up to retirement with their daily commute taking them only 5 minutes one way.
sayang sana ibalik nila ung english news
1989: One and a half hours of travel from Caloocan to Makati is a big problem.
2024: Caloocan to Makati takes 3 hours.
It's actually 1-1.5 hours to get a ride, not the travel time. That's pretty bad, lol.
Ginamit nila yung Pulsar background music from TV Patrol
It is high time now to revamp the provincial rate law!
0:05 NOW ANGELO CASTRO JR IS SPEAKING ENGLISH!!!
Tropical Hut yung kanto kasi Sir 2 yrs from that 1991 tinayo ang Ortigas Flyover
My God, Manila has barely changed at all.
At least. 😌
keyword here is "foresight" which our leaders dont have, They should build more Train lines and they should started it in the 90s
Ano na nangyari after 3 decades walang pinagbago.
Car Centric Policies doomed us
I know this has been going on for a while now but it doesn't help that they appointed an SMC tollways CEO as the DPWH secretary. Ang weird din na yung background ng transport secretary is in the aviation industry... but then again I'm not an expert, lol.
Driving around the NCR is hard enough but catching a ride is even harder.
Mas mahirap pa Ang transportation dati Kasi Wala pa mga mrt,lrt2 at carousel.
35 years after wala pa ring pinagbago sa lagay ng lansangan natin.
TWT stayed for a bit longer pero eventually hanggang ANC na lang siya.
is jing magsaysay related to former president ramon magsaysay?
Kung naranasan niyo na sumakay ng jeep na nakababa pa rin mga plastic tarps kahit tumila na ulan, that's how an e-jeep is but 10x worse kasi sarado pati estribo at yung AC walang circulation kasi puno yung aisles at naka-uno lang.
1:40 bro, why do you mop the floor like that? 😅
Nothing change
it;s still the same!
This was 1989...
Still the same in 2024...
The same reason, public transportation is literally at the back seat of this government!
3:33 where's this location?
Commonwealth, I think.
EDSA Ortigas
Problem of the past is the problem of the new era, LALALA pa yan pagdating ng PANAHON!
30 years later, it is safe to say that the situation is still the same, and it's even worse, with doubling the Metro Manila population from 1989, and with the same shitty transportation system.
