It is interesting to see that Chinese Phoenix is different from the Western Phoenix. As the Western Phoenix is a fiery bird that rises out of it ashes, so it can never die.
Phoenix Bird is came from western mythology, while Vermilion Bird is came from chinese & japanese mythologies. These bird is represent as fire symbols. The only diffrent is Phoenix wasn't used as Empress symbol, while Vermilion it does.
@@rizkyramadhansoundwave8555 ….No you got it completely wrong. Zhuque (Vermillion bird) wasn’t used as a symbol for Chinese empress, Fenghuang (Chinese phoenix) was. Fenghuang became a symbol of prosperity and good fortune since 7000-8000 years ago and was completely unrelated to the Western phoenix. Fenghuang was considered the ruler of all earthly birds whereas Zhuque was one of the four mythological creatures that ruled the celestial constellations.
朱雀, 凤凰 and phoenix are completely three different concepts, so please do not mess up with their unique features. The Chinese phoenix you described was clearly an amalgamation of all three things. 朱雀 is one of those gods that rules the cosmos, 凤凰 is the king of birds and phoenix is the immortal bird that commits nirvana and is reborn from fire, and a phoenix should be referred to as '不死鸟' or '火鸟' in Chinese not '凤凰'.
There is a Chinese mythical creature statue at the university next to mine. My friend told me it was also a son of a dragon, and it looks like a lion with a horn like a unicorn's on it's head, plus it has like deer legs. It's actually really cool looking!
If it was the 9 children of the dragon king then it's not Qilin. Qilin is from a different lineage. Go check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_sons_of_the_dragon. Son of the dragon is a specific reference so your friend should be referring to one of them
I really love this channel! I've been watching since it first began and will continue to show these two love like we did mike and Dan. I hope others are with me
Here's an interesting thing. The japanese word キリン (kirin) is originated from the name of the qi lin and means giraffe. You can kind of see the resemblance if you look hard enough.
Go watch hozuki no reitetsu, and compare it to the Chinese legends of those subjects, you will get an idea of how much Japanese culture and Chinese culture are similar
Giraffes aren't the only animals that are called with mythical beast's name. In Indonesia there are bid lizards called Komodo, and in English it is Komodo Dragon, but they resemble dinosaurs than dragons (both western and Chinese version).
Well done and very informative. I'm 2nd generation Canadian so less familiar with the 4th mythical creature. I noticed when I was in Beijing a number of years ago visiting the Museum of Anthropology. I was puzzled by how the logo of the museum there looked almost identical to the totem pole depicted on the obverse side of the British Columbia 1958 centennial Silver dollar. I later read that the early Chinese tribes used the snake and bird (eagle I think) in their clan banners and such. These later evolved into the dragon and phoenix. This makes a lot of sense because the first people who inhabited North America arrived over the land bridge connecting asia and the americas. This was the Red Man (Indians, 1st nations etc.) They lived side by side with the Yellow Man for thousands of years and thus their common symbolism origins. Eventually cultural rivalry dominated and the Red Man retreated over the Bering Strait land bridge. With the rise of water and the subsidence of the Land Bridge the cultures were isolated from one another.
Bissen well, I would argue that it is their way of showing friendship to each others, my friends always say things like if you die, can I have your xxx? when they visit me when I have a cold or something, that is what true friends do
Weird. Bixi came out of nowhere lol. I was expecting you guys to introduce the 4 Benevolent animals of China, namely Dragon, Phoenix, Qilin, and Turtle. Turtle in this sense has a snake as a tail. all 4 of them are sacred.
So Nuwa basically hurried over to the broken pillar, grabbed a Celestial Turtle, cut its legs off, and used them to hold up the sky...? The gods are quite powerful, so why do they rely on a Turtle to make sure their entire home even stays where it is? Gods....?
Have you guys heard of SMITE? I'd love to hear what you all think of its' rendition of asian legend and folklore and fyi, they're just rolling out the Japanese pantheon with Amaterasu and have a Chinese themed map due out soon
I actually watched shen yun last year and my heart was so touched about communism being unable to allow freedom of expression and i cried so much. But the music, costume, settings, and especially the choreography were awesome too :)
The unique thing is, even if they're mythical creatures, two of their names become the name of the real animal that are not much similar to them. The word qilin, or kirin in Japanese and Korean, also used for giraffe. The English word "dragon" also used to call the big lizards live in Komodo island, Indonesia, Komodo Dragons, but they're not similar to either western or Chinese dragon, but they look like dinosaurs.
It makes me wonder how the western and eastern have 2 different name for a similar creature description like Phoenix. There must be a story behind this
You know all of these creatures except the Qilin appeared in Avatar the Last Airbender. The Dragon was an animal ridden by firebenders, Firelord Ozai named himself the Phoenix King when he was off to conquer the other nations. And the Bixi was known as a lionturtle in the franchise. Also in European mythology, there was a creature called the Hipagrif which is similar to the Qilin. It was part griffin and part horse (ironically the griffin and the horse were said to be enemies). I was told that is was a friendly grazing animal like the Qilin.
+Dakota Conn European mythology? Never heard. You know, there are peoples in Europe whose ancestors never worshipped the Indo-European gods nor spoke an Indo-European language. Have you heard of them Uralic peoples?
Its Hippogriff The "hippo-" part comes from the Greek word Hippos which means horse. The same word is related to the Latin word Equus & Sanskrit word Áśva.
Interesting that the Dragon's protruding forehead signifies Wisdom... Considering that's where our Prefrontal Cortex is located. It's the part of our brain that tells us to do the Hard thing because it's the Right thing.. And as the last part to fully develop in our Brains that can ONLY come with time and experience (usually around 28 years old). 🐉 we use it for Planning and making Good decisions 🐲 Hence "Wisdom"
So Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are the dragon pheonix babies. And also when Zheng He brought back the giraffe from Africa in the 15th century voyage of his, the court officials named the African animal Qilin, or Kirin in Japanese language
Shen Yun.. the first time I saw the performance it was incredibly awesome I enjoyed it from start to finish.. I would want to see it again..
Regarding 2:53, 麒 麟 is the mascot for famous Kirin Japanese Beer.
Can't help but smile every time I watch your videos! Thanks so much!
It is interesting to see that Chinese Phoenix is different from the Western Phoenix. As the Western Phoenix is a fiery bird that rises out of it ashes, so it can never die.
The Phoenix and the Fenghuang clearly dont have much in common.

Chinese and Japanese dragons are WAAAYYY BETTER THAN WESTERN DRAGONS
ITS_JOSH hell yes
Yes
Reminds me how thete are basicly 3 types of dragons in fiction:
- (western) beast
- (western) thinker
- (eastern) sage
Nah. I prefer western dragons (and I’m part Korean.)
Chinese and Japanese dragons are the same
There is a Chinese mythical creature statue at the university next to mine. My friend told me it was also a son of a dragon, and it looks like a lion with a horn like a unicorn's on it's head, plus it has like deer legs. It's actually really cool looking!
that is probably a qilin, if it has paws and wings, it is a piyao, if it has one horn and paws without wings and outside law schools it is a xiezhi.
Yeah! It is outside a law school! I didn't know that was a thing. Thanks!
Pi Xiu
That called a qilin which is like a kirin(a dragon horse thing)

I would like to know more about the Azure Dragon, Red Phoenix, White Tiger and Black Tortoise. Any videos on that?
青龙 朱雀 白虎 玄武
Technically, 玄武 isn't just a "Black Tortosie". It's a black turtoise and a black snake together!
Here's an interesting thing. The japanese word キリン (kirin) is originated from the name of the qi lin and means giraffe. You can kind of see the resemblance if you look hard enough.
True. Kirin is also supposedly a type of Japanese "Unicorn". And a beer company.

chinese kerean japanese also called qilin kirin

That's because Chinese mistook giraffe for qi lin. Maybe Japanese hand it down in history.
Came to watch this after Shang-Chi! Shot for the videos ladies 🙏🏼
the Qi-lin looks like it was translated to a Kiren for series like monster hunter.
Really beautiful drawings!
Nice video. As a fellow artist, I really appreciate the drawings.
I am a Taiwanese and I just love these animals.
To be honest, Feng Huang always come in pair, the male Feng and female Huang, it's different from 'Phoenix' alone
Excellent show this time. Very enjoyable
wow really liked this video, i love learning about the chinese culture and mythology... I can't put it into words :)

Yes.
Some Japanese mythical creatures are from China, lsuch as the Kirin / Qilin

I'm a dragon!
The Qilin has its own dance like the lion dance.
I am moving to a new house and i want to hang a phoenix painting facing my front door which is on the west part is that good?
My sister is a dragon and I'm a Phoenix i really like your videos about creatures and the story's about the history of china
who is drawing?
It's actually snakes body and scales.
Are you recommending Shen Yun because you're Falun Dafa followers, or just because the dancing is pretty?
The background music sounds like something out of the Okami soundtrack
What is the taotie
Can you guys tell us the myth about the goddess of the last creature pls pls pls pls
+Sergio Garcia If I remembered right there was already an episode on this channel talking about her.
Wasn't the Dragon somehow related to Liu Bei of Romance of the Three Kingdoms?Anyways my favorite mythical creature of all time is the Phoenix.
As a Chinese I've never heard of that. Isn't the dragon related to any emperor?
It makes me wonder how the western and eastern have 2 different name for a similar creature description like Phoenix. There must be a story behind this
The Phoenix (greek) & the Fenghuang (chinese) are two unrelated mythical birds.
I have to say he dragon started to become the symbol of emperor only about one thousand years ago, not from Zhou dynasty.
Cocogoat

Dragoon, Dranzer, Driger and Draciel
