In this latest instalment of Drone News I visit Oban Mountain Rescue to interview one of their drone pilots Alastair. We recently sold and trained him on the latest DJI drone to be designed specifically for first responders, the M30T.
Equipped with our own custom high vis wrap and 4 cameras that include a wide angle, thermal, 200X zoom and a laser range finder for pin pointing and sharing locations. Watch the video and find out how mountain rescue teams are following in their foot steps and how it may be an intricate part of the future for how first responders carry out their life saving duties.
If you are interested in purchasing a drone or our custom wraps and training services make sure to check out our website: www.edinburghd...

I own a M30T, and have bought a brilliant rucksack that makes it easy to carry around.
I carry the UAV plus 4 batteries, the controller and the landing pad all in the same backpack, plus as I own the UAV, I needed something very well made to protect the machine in all weathers.
I was using it for dog hunts, so was out walking for many hours, and it is very comfy.
If anyone is still in need, I will find the details and willingly pass it on.
The usual caveats that I have absolutely no connection with the manufacturers or sellers, just a very happy owner.
Keep up the excellent work my friends.
    Brian.

Very interesting - thank you. All MRT should have this tech.

Agreed Ronan! Sadly it’s very expensive and most MRT’s in Scotland are charity based and depend on donations to aid fundraising.
Costs are coming down and compared to manned aviation, it’s cheap and giving local communities aerial assistance.

Fellow SAR volunteer here, you can use a pack from mystery ranch. They allow you to strap hard and bulky loads to the specially designed packs. You can carry your other equipment on the side very easily. Hope it helps! ~ Robin

Hi Robin, thanks for the suggestion. We will look into it and relay back to the MRT's we work with. I think everyone is trying to figure out the best backpack solution so it's good to hear from you.

Which Mystery Ranch pack would that be? I couldn't see any drone specific ones. Cheers

So by what was said in the video I take it rescue services also need to comply to VLOS. Hope the talks about flights outside of VLOS in the EU makes it into reality soon, for use cases like these. VLOS even with a drone this size is not really far. I know the UK is not in the EU anymore, but I can only fathom that they will follow when it comes to the regulations in this area.

Your correct Adrian, all services need to stick to the same rules that we do. I agree that under specific circumstances such as saving lives, first responders should be allowed special exemption from time to time.

Good interview. SAR team might consider purchasing a second controller and hiking out…first controller can stay at command vehicle, launch drone and fly to deployed SAR team…SARteam will only carry batteries and controller…thoughts?

Ha! That is awesome. For some years I am working on a Brickfilm (stop motion) taking place in Oban. Do you have any more aerial footage of the city and surroundings you might share?

With the orange arm wraps. How do you inspect the carbon fiber for flaws before flight?

    • @edinburghdronecompany
      @edinburghdronecompany  Год назад

Oban MRT have a SOP in place and all checks and maintenance are to manufacturer and UK standard.
We advise systematically checking and replacing wrap on arms. Our self adhesive vinyl removes and can be replaced easily for checks.

That plastic case is way too heavy, awkward, and impractical. You can buy customisable backpacks for camera gear.

    • @edinburghdronecompany

Agreed, a range of custom backpacks available as well which fit the exact drone 👌
We can advise but clients don’t always take on

Systems like the Brinc Lemur S have two way audio built on. We can also source attachments for other models. Drop off of equipment can be done but is not allowed/encouraged in the UK.
