Excellent job on this review of my favorite Doors Album!! I was lucky enough to find the 1st pressing at a yard sale last summer for 1 dollar!!! Got it home and gave it a nice cleaning and wow!!!! (I listen to it every weekend with a few nice beverages! Rock on brother!

I Strongly disagree about the 2009 Rhino Bernie Grundman copy pressed at RTI. Everything, especially the drums are Crystal Clear. Highs are Definitely not muddy at All! Another one of the best sounding records I own. Sounds like you’re in the studio with them! It’s not just my opinion but Everyone I’ve played it for has been amazed by the sound. Wow.. no way would I give the pressing a negative review. Unless I was deaf! 😆

Definitely not trying to act like I know better (I do not), but CSM signifies Columbia's Santa Maria plant and CP signifies their Pitman plant. Terre Haute would be CTH.
HOWEVER, this video is from 2018. Let's be honest, people only recently started getting super specific about the Columbia plants. (I think Discogs got a lot more detailed during the pandemic!) All three Columbia plants used identical label layouts (unlike how text varied between the Capitol plants), so they all look like the same pressing on first glance. You have to check the runouts. Elektra made things easier, but often you are looking for a tiny "P" stamp (Pitman) or a thin "S" etch (Santa Maria).
Making things crazier, Columbia used to send plates between plants. There are plenty of times I will see a Terre Haute with a Side 1 plate from Santa Maria or a Side 2 plate from Pitman. Add to it that Columbia pressed for SO many other labels, and logging a collection of largely American pressings on Discogs is usually a real PITA!

At 48 minutes, the 45rpm is a must. Heck, the single disc 33 at 24+ minutes a side is just way too long with no breaks

You’re absolutely right on all counts. I really dislike the trend toward 2-disk 45 rpm pressings but, for the Doors, I made an exception. “The Changeling” is, I think, a standout track on this pressing because I’ve often found it to be quieter and muddier on other pressings. It really pops on the AP version here. I’ve been listening to these albums since I was a kid in the sixties and seventies and these (records in the AP box set) are the best-sounding pressings of these records I’ve ever heard.

I really appreciate any thoughts you may have about the differences between the two pressings. I REALLY don't want to spend the $65+ for the AP if I don't have to 😁

Ah, I also have the rest of their albums as German pressings. They were given to me by a friend of mine who was moving to Hawaii. I don't think they are 1st German pressings, but later reissues. Do you think the sound on these German pressings of the Doors albums would be pretty good, or how do you think they might compare to the AP 2-45 pressings? Thanks kindly for any thoughts you may have about this! 👍 I just REALLY don't relish spending $65 an album for the AP's although I do have some of their other pressings and they are quite good.

MIKE....You are the bomb!! Your reviews are so friggin' true. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
I always use my DCC press as my go to 33 rpm lp for this title. After so many comparisons this is the one
I always went for as I thought it was the best.....then I recently listened to your review.
I went and bought the Anologue Productions 45 RPM press as you suggested.
You are so so on the money. I have never heard this music, the tones on the piano, the tones on Jim's voice
as I have heard today for the first time. Your recommendation is absolutely 100% perfect!! This copy simply sounds
much more natural, as it shoud be. Thanks again....I am so blown away at this amazing sound. What a pleasure.
PS>>>>You first got my total respect when you said the USA promo of The Wall (don't care too much for this title) was the best
sounding copy because that is what I also determined for myself while my friends thought I was crazy!! Take Good Care, Michel
PPS>>>Do you have any thoughts on Coleman Hawkins "Soul" lp? I sure love side one but side 2 sucks!!...wondering what is the best
sounding one, as I really like the long track "Soul Blues"

I have a '74 UK Repress with a solid white background as opposed to the die cut sleeve. Uses the original UK stampers. Really nice sounding pressing. Bought it years ago from a charity shop for £5. May have to pick up the AP of it if it turns up for a reasonable price as I've heard it's amazing and possibly AP's best work.

  • @31cify
    @31cify 2 года назад +1

Yeah, I've heard the version from Analogue Productions is the best sounding. I've also heard pretty decent things about the 180gram version. In fact, some say it's the cleanest sounding and has some of the best stereo separation they've ever heard. So maybe these two releases are the ones to go for.

    • @leon9021

omavero11 Personally I would not recommend cleaning unless you have a proper method like an RCM. I find it counterproductive to try and clean when you just push dirt deeper in the grooves or leave other debris from the cleaning. Ultrasonic baths and Vacuuming enzyme solutions seem to be the best theoretically but Ive heard a lot of people praise the spin clean. Personally Id save up a bit more and take a look at something like the Record Doctor V for 200$. It will require less distilled water and overall solutions and will save you money in the long run. Not to mention being more effective than the spin clean.

@@vincenzonapoles4371 mate, please keep up. I made a comment about not writing off the Rhino pressing, as he wrote them off. I made a point about how I thought they sounded fine. I made a point stating that, as opposed to his opinion that they aren’t worth listening to, I think they are and that they are priced well. I made a point that his opinions could be based upon vinyl snobbery. I hope that’s cleared it up for you. I’m entitled to my opinion. Why is that so hard for you understand? Have a good one 👍
