I really love watching Poppen repaint dolls based on old Hollywood icons because 1. They always looking stunning, and 2. I always learn something new! I had no idea that Lucille Ball’s production company was responsible for the first Star Trek series. Incredible work as always!
I appreciate the history lessons as well! Hopefully when she does Dolly Parton she says about her literacy initiative that helps children access free books and also her TV production company helped create Buffy The Vampire Slayer
lucy was an innovator. she actually wrote most of the i love lucy episodes. shes a gorgeous doll. im so happy you made her! now we need desi! or carol burnett
No, no: we can honor Lucille's multiple talents without stealing credit from the actual woman (and two men) who wrote "I Love Lucy"--Madelyn Pugh Davis, Jess Oppenheimer and Bob Carroll Jr. (I've never even seen a hint otherwise.) Lucille didn't write episodes. Ideas? Inspirations? Of course! The role that Ball's comedic instincts and performing genius played in crafting the characters and developing a lot of the physical 'business' can't possibly be overstated. (Desi Arnaz's innovations that shaped not just the show but television production and distribution as a whole are pretty damn huge too.) The brilliant trio of headwriters of this classic show (who also wrote Lucille's radio show on which this was based, "My Favorite Husband") deserve the full credit. I think Lucille would agree without batting one of her fantastic eyelashes.
@@kirajlerner She was on like 5 different shows. The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, Life With Lucy, etc. I think they simply mis-remembered which show she had writing credits for. IDK. You have clearly devoted your whole life to this, so . . . spill it!
I grew up in Lucy's hometown. The whole town is covered in paintings of her. It's virtually the only thing they're known for, but they take a lot of pride in Lucy. I think if you submitted this to the Jamestown NY Lucille Ball museum, they'd be thrilled.
That particular lip shape is called the hunters bow, and is the opposite of the cupids bow of the 20's. I can't remember if it was Heady Lamar or Joan Crawford who popularized it. Beautiful work as always.
She was always one of my idols. She inspired me to go into acting as a comedic redhead with blue eyes myself. You did an amazing job. I’ve always thought that the dolls looked good but their eyes just made her look odd, but you made her look like the beautiful woman she was.
I love the history you told us! I love, love "vintage" Hollywood history, particularly the stories behind the ladies of that era. This episode was SUCH a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
*loved the end result, as always!!* *p.s. ever thought about doing a fran drescher one with a couple of nanny outfits?* *massive hug - love the channel!*
Yes and when they wrote the pregnancy into the storyline, she was the first woman ever depicted being pregnant on television but she was also pregnant in real life which is why they wrote it into the story. The writers and producers originally wanted to hide the second pregnancy like they did the first, but Lucy refused. Girlboss
The original doll was instantly recognizable. However, your repaint captured her perfectly and illustrated what an unintentional Caricatures it was. Thank you also for speaking about her groundbreaking life. Most people know the incredible comedic talent she was but she was so much more. She worked in some glorious Film Noir.additionally, she has many movies where her character, through today’s eyes, really does speak to her views on power. As always, your talent is phenomenal
It was a nice doll from the package and looked okay. And then you did the lips. OMG. That became the Lucy I grew up with. I was blown away. Thanks for that. This was amazing.
I couldn't click this fast enough - I just LOVE Lucille Ball! She is an icon and a role model for me. She was not afraid to be silly, she was proud to be a woman, and was not scared of busting traditional conventions. The important thing about Lucille Ball is how she made being a strong woman and being in an interracial marriage NORMAL, like it should not be questioned, but just accepted. She made it easy for people who had not seen such things to shed their ignorance and uncertainty, which is really the root of all belligerence regarding differences. EDIT: forgot to compliment you on your work - I thought the original doll looked good, but your face was a much improved look for her, especially the eyes. It's perfection!
I Love Lucy has always been and will always be my favorite television sitcom. I’ve been able to quote every line of every episode since I was 10. I LOVE Lucy.
Lucille Ball she’s an icon and she’s a legend and she is the moment she was known as the queen of comedy. She was a woman ahead of her time I Love Lucy❤
Wow amazing how you make the face come alive, the face looks like a real person not a face on a doll. Great work. thank you for sharing your talent with us.
i was thrilled to see you take that pretty but flat original face paint and make it dimensional--the doll looks a lot more like lucille now!! i wish the manufacturers would all just come to you for celebrity doll face paint designs. i was hoping you'd give her the false lashes--that to me is one of the most iconic things about her look because it really makes the blue of her eyes pop.
You look so stunning in your pink and yellow outfit at the beginning! Makes me want to drink some pink lemonade in the sunshine! Love what you did with this repaint, too!
I love these realistic makeovers that already have custom face molds, they look so beautiful and realistic once they're repainted. Lovely job as always 💕
I am binge watching your videos. Your work is absolutely beautiful and outstanding, along with the amazing outfits your mom makes. I would love to see you create actress, model and singer Teyana Taylor with her gown from the 2022 met gala. She was named most beautiful women. She is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing you and your mom's creative gifts with us. Many blessings.🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks so much for making this one! Lucy has a special place in my heart. I grew up watching I love Lucy as a kid. She was truly amazing. You did a fantastic job! Only thing I think she needed was the falsies! She always had the big eyelashes 😁 beautiful styling on the hair. Right on point! Well done yet again!
You are the master at repainting dolls!! Someone said the other day, "you never see realistic dolls" i said try this channel! All my love forever 😍😍😍😍😍
My brother absolutely loved Lucille Ball, and he would have gotten such a charge out of this repaint. (He died from lung cancer in 2020.) She's absolutely stunning. Such delicate features. I'm in awe.
When your channel popped up on my home feeds, I was surprised. After watching the "Recommended" video, I was hooked! I spent the remainder of the day watching your videos. You are so creative and super talented! Your Lucille Ball Face Makeover made me tear up a little, it was expressing out to me so much joy! God bless you and keep you every day! Wow, so talented.
The big projects are obviously awesome, but I really like the ones that don't have as many parts. They're still gorgeous and they just seem very relaxed. This one came out beautiful! When I was very, very young (maybe 2 or 3 years old) my great-grandmother's name was Lucy, so for a while I thought Lucille Ball was my great-grandmother! Obviously, she wasn't, but she still reminds me of my actual grandmother and both were amazing women in their own rights.
Please Poppen make a Britney Spears doll portrait she is such an ICON and I'm waiting for you to make a realistic doll tribute to her, that would be a really amazing project and also fun to watch !!!! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱 you're doing an awesome JOB!!! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
I love it, Maryna! I was pretty interested in how you would interpret Lucille’s brows as they were pretty iconic. I went down the rabbit hole once in the history of eyebrows, of all things and it was actually very interesting to see how the shape of brows changed over the decades and hers were very much a constant 1930s brow throughout her career which was thin and rounded. You were closer to getting it than the original doll but I think hers were still more rounded. If you get a chance to research eyebrow shape through the decades, it’s pretty enlightening. As always, many thanks for sharing your talent with us. ❤️
I love that she was also responsible for the start of shows like Star Trek. Can you please do a Heady Lamar doll? She was one of the inventors of modern WiFi.
There was a moment you angled the doll's head as you painted and I said, "Bravo! There is Lucille Ball." You are very talented and it was a pleasure to watch.
It’s crazy how much the doll looks like Lucille Ball after the repaint! Also loving the pink eyeshadow today. Whenever I try anything with pink it looks like I have an eye infection. Maybe I should try again.
You certainly made her look so much more realistic.I think the additional shading and highlights you add makes the face more three D as well as brings it more to life .I remember I love Lucy and the one she did with her husband at the time Dezi too…She was just so funny. But I think in real life she would have been an intelligent lady .Loved her shows though 🥰

Her name is Maryna.
lucy was an innovator. she actually wrote most of the i love lucy episodes. shes a gorgeous doll. im so happy you made her! now we need desi! or carol burnett
Ooohhh Carol Burnett, or Cher, both had Bob Mackie do their clothes
There's a kind of movie about Lucy and Desi in a documentary-like story. I forgot the title, but you should check it out!

Aha! Thank you!
I read somewhere that she chose that particular style because it helped exaggerate her comedic facial expressions!
You captured the skin colour of a red head perfectly. And the face is lovely.
As a redheaded Lucy myself this is the one I wish I could afford....truly beautiful xx
She was always one of my idols. She inspired me to go into acting as a comedic redhead with blue eyes myself. You did an amazing job. I’ve always thought that the dolls looked good but their eyes just made her look odd, but you made her look like the beautiful woman she was.
So cool!
You do know she was originally blonde, right?
@@Crow29803 yes
@@Crow29803 so was Elvis
Apparently she was actually a brunette, went blonde for modelling, then later dyed it red.
Lucille Ball is one of my favorite stars of all time. Can't wait to keep watching!

Never knew i needed that until now
Yaaaaaaaasssssss!!!!
Omg I hope she does this
My first thought before even watching was "it's about time." I loved Lucy and Desi, they were like family. She is absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
Lucille Ball is a total BOSS!!! LadyBOSS!!! The GOAT. Your art is phenomenal. What an amazing tribute. 💋
You have done Lucy proud. Thank you for telling part of her story
That’s crazy! She looks so real. A mini Lucy. She’s beautiful. And the clothes she came with are surprisingly nice. Love this project!
I love the history lessons with the dolls! I had no idea she was tied to the original Star Trek series. Lucille is amazing! Love your work!

You are a magic woman! You recreated Lucy perfectly! It was her for sure. I'm in awe of your talent and creativity. Amazing.
Omg pink looks amazing on you!!!
I like these smaller videos between larger videos. You get a break from the big projects but we get to still you your fabulous work.
It is mind blowing how real this doll looks. I am speechless.

It is crazy how much more realistic you were able to make that doll. It’s looks almost like a portrait.
loving your top and makeup and getting comfortable to watch your amazing artistic skills.

I rarely comment but omg I recommend Lucille Ball long time ago but to see this up and it's on my b-day of all days lol. What a surprise. 😍
She just looks like herself! Another perfect repaint!

WOW! I was skeptical at first, but the end product is unreal. I've never watched a video like this before, but this was awesome!
