I think FaceID is very well thought out and implemented. Works flawlessly every time. I don’t mind the notch. It gives the iPhone its character, and differentiates it from the plethora of other phones out in the market.
Picking up my phone doesn’t always mean I’m ready to go to Home Screen or resume my previous task immediately. Sometimes, I just want a quick glance on my notification centre. Or take a picture. Most of the time I kinda know what those notifications are while the device is still locked, and I might not want to share it with whoever standing behind me. I don’t see a simple swipe up too much a chore myself. It’s more a handshake to tell my iPhone that I’m ready to use it.
Now that Face ID works with a mask- and it works very well even with my prescription glasses without have to add a glasses scan- I am happy with Face ID. Voice ID wouldn’t be a good method when in some situations like in a library, theater, restroom, etc.
My theory is that he’s too clever in the presentation. If viewers have a choice between presenters the ones with the most „accessible“ form of presentation will penetrate the market. That’s why the people aiming for the stem brain have a wider reach than this one.
Having recently upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus to an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I can say that I prefer Touch ID over Face ID, although both technologies combined on the same phone would be very good.
I use my phone a lot while laying in bed. There’s nothing more annoying than having to crane my head up (unsuccessfully) to unlock FaceID locked apps. I’m constantly having it fail twice so that I’m putting in my passcode. I would absolutely love TouchID in the power button.
I absolutely agree with you on that, for many years the auto brightness toggle was in the display and brightness settings and then they changed it to accessibilities

Hope the update for mask support is coming soon because thats the only problem with it. I absolutely don't want my phone unlocked by default because it thinks its me.
@YD_. That's some misleading information right there... Attention Aware not only prevents auto-lock and lowers the volume of alarms/ringtones when you're looking at your device, but also makes sure the iPhone only unlocks when your eyes are open and looking directly at the screen. Just try to open your phone screen while pointing your eyes far to the right, but with your face still directed at the screen. Then, slowly move your eyes towards the screen and you will see that then, and only then, will the phone unlock! For this to happen, these options must be enabled: "Require Attention for Face ID" and "Attention Aware Features". You will find them in [Settings > Face ID & Passcode].

I'm alright with this, as long as it can be turned off and falling back to other forms of ID are available. There are definitely circumstances where you don't want someone to be able to get hold of your phone and just have it be unlocked because of it's proximity to you. And that at the end of the day is still what this would end up having to be. your phone using biometrics to identify you, and it's proximity to you.

Separate fingerprint reader on the back where the index finger has no other function still seems most convenient to me in most situations - you just touch it even before the phone is completely in front of the face and it doesn't mix with the on/off button.
I honestly love Face ID and I feel so damn spoiled having it. Picking up my phone and just swiping up because it’s already been unlocked with the security of my face is seriously fucking fantastic and it’s honestly changed the way I look at security for my phone. I couldn’t see myself not using Face ID now that I’ve gotten used to it. I wear gloves at work and love that I don’t have to take them off to use my phone if needed. Also, Face ID being used to store my passwords for websites, Apple Pay, etc is icing on the security cake for me. I seriously love it!
Don't get too complicated. Just bring back Touch ID while keeping Face ID. If one is not working (such as wearing a COVID mask) the other will work just fine. Simple. Oh, and add that Apple Watch thing. It can already unlock my Mac, why not my iPhone?
Dear Rene, all of the personal data that Apple keeps on device out of privacy concerns, is that data transferred to a new iPhone during the automatic setup? Or is it lost?
I just wanna personally start by saying thank you so much for over the years doing what you do really appreciate it you always give us the informative information that's really helpful thanks again keep doing what you doing MUCH LOVE.
A elderly friend recently had an emergency, after he was confused and locked the phone down. His memory was very foggy for days. That’s when I realised how awful apple support is. It’s OK for tier 1 support. Beyond that you are on your own.
Hmmm, the system is designed so that there isn’t any type of back doors to the iPhone. That being said apple themselves can’t remotely bypass any security locks .

While it's true, but again, there are ways to raise or lower the level of trust, just like he said in the video. Don't have (or don't want) the Apple Watch? Sure, you still have other ways: FaceID, TouchID, GaitID, VoiceID. Combine all of these, and you will have your phone that will only unlock if you and only you want to access the phone. Remember the sensors that is integrated already? We can technically use those sensors periodically to passively "test" our presence. That way the device can raise or lower the level of trust. In the end, it's not always required to have Apple Watch or AirPods or other Apple devices (if any, I'm just wondering if these could be). I could say that it's an additional layer of security. Having our voice, face, fingerprint, and/or iris biometrics, are more than enough to achieve high level of convenience and security. Well, at least, it's my opinion. And sorry for my English 😅
@@Knee-Lew My comment isn't directed at Rene exactly, i understand the case he is making and largely agree with authentication being obtained in a more passive way so as to not constantly keep harassing us for input and things become more seamless. When you are trying to achieve tech-minimalism but make a case for buying more things to achieve one thing, just feels counterintuitive. And by the way your english is great. :)
all great points but here's the kicker, if the phone is using use data holistically and trusting you after much deliberation, there is still no audit that it was right in trusting you. there needs to be a log however transitory which can be inspected retrospectively
The idea is good, but it has so many breachable circumstances. The one major flaw is, that, how would it know, that when you take it off your hand or body, like on a table, (so the last person touching is you) then you pick it up with the watchless hand silently, (so no record of sensors, voice, that it is you? Same scenario, if someone else picks it up after you leave it on the table, at your location, that it is NOT you? It would have all the data previously stacked, but it will have no record of the present action - it cant register whether its you or not - unless its your watched hand(will register lifting movement) or while you are walking(will register walking movement)? Then comes those security issues like oh what if someone else uses your finger to unlock while youre asleep (still breachable) or use your face (unbreachable, bc you gotta be staring at the screen/ir sensor)? So in the end, it would have to have some sort of identification last minute when you lift it up to see the screen for it to be unlocked = face id = whats the point of all the other data tracking? And thats just one reason of many others to question what use is it for smart id
Both is great in different situations. If your hands are dirty/wet we use face ID If you are wearing mask we can use touch ID So apple must make both available in the next model
I don't want my phone to kill my privacy even more than it now does by becoming more trusted to be an object that I always have with me. If you come to my house to buy something of value or sign a contract, I don't want to advertise and certify that private sale with digital currency or digital presence for either of us.
These days, however I just swipe my phone and it's open- even with a mask, or sunglasses ... Apple watch is very handy! Facid is great. Fast, reliable, works when I'm wearing gloves, when I have wet fingers... What Im not keen on is the in glass fingerprint sensors- slow, doesnt work with gloves, iffy with wet fingers... Fingerprint sensor in the on button is fast and convenient.
Oh wow putting your finger on a button or looking at your phone takes a millisecond out of your life …..doing something you were already gonna do anyways takes a slice out of your life…..man people just don’t know what to complain about anymore…..
Still have to swipe up for face ID... making it equal to touch id in terms of "work" lol... can't believe people find placing a finger on a button a task. Yeah, can't wait for the next SE next month, definitely can't wait to go back to touch id personally.
How lazy do you have to be if “glancing” at your phone is too much effort to unlock it. Face ID is quick and effortless enough. I don’t even notice I use it.

Love the Idea Rene. Also in iPad. With a 3d Pile Shape with Higher Camera in Center. Not Square Tim. SmartID.
08:01 Like you usually do all the usual things that you do usually🤣🤣🤣 another Rene style sentence that makes the sense that it does🌚🌚🌚
Ha!
With a little tweak, you could have a fun April Fool's video. iBody BodyID
Both is great in different situations.
If your hands are dirty/wet we use face ID
If you are wearing mask we can use touch ID
So apple must make both available in the next model
touch id is not practical. Doesn't work most of the time. Face Id is 100% better
I don't want my phone to kill my privacy even more than it now does by becoming more trusted to be an object that I always have with me. If you come to my house to buy something of value or sign a contract, I don't want to advertise and certify that private sale with digital currency or digital presence for either of us.
You have hit the nail on the head! A smartphone would be a great idea!!
I’m not sure if smart ID is your idea but it’s brilliant
I feel like smart id would be such a controversial feature
Pretty sure I’m not supposed to remove my Apple Watch unless changing or upgrading to a new one!😂😂
Still have to swipe up for face ID... making it equal to touch id in terms of "work" lol... can't believe people find placing a finger on a button a task. Yeah, can't wait for the next SE next month, definitely can't wait to go back to touch id personally.
I love Face ID. I don’t really care for Touch ID.
Wait for it… RetinaID! your Apple Glasses 👓 will authenticate you to unlock everything.
"Adamantium!" 1:56, oi! oi! G.C.
An absolutely amazing video! Learning something new every time. You’re awesome dude
How lazy do you have to be if “glancing” at your phone is too much effort to unlock it. Face ID is quick and effortless enough. I don’t even notice I use it.
Good as always, sir! 👍🏾
