The shrinkage is very real. I started with natural hair that when pulled, came down way past my shoulders. When I coiled it I didn't see anything mush at first. However, the next day it shrunk all the way up to my ears. It took an entire year for my hair to get back to the length it was when I was a loose natural. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience. :)
GIRL YOU NEVA LIE LOL 😂😂 I waited 2 years before locing my natural hair trying to avoid the short stage. I just started my loc journey a few weeks ago and my husband recorded my loctician comb coiling my hair and the shrinkage is real yall!!!! -K
I’m eight months in my journey and I thank you so much for the videos and education. I was so excited when I started having frizz. It symbolized that ish was getting real lol
I like the when locs are "bumpy"... I just feel like it gives them personality... so I plan on just retwisting my roots and letting the rest of the loc do its thing instead of palm rolling the length...
Thanks for the video . I'm four months locked and getting weary because of the shortness plus my hair is fine. Thanks for the encouraging words. You're right I need to stop looking at them and comparing my journey with others. Be Blessed
Yesss sis I agree. We gotta stay in our own individual lanes, an keep focus on our own individual journey's. Everyone's locs are unique in their own special way. Shalom yall 💝
I started my locs this past Sunday. I'm not new to locs as my previous set were almost four years old but I'm new to starting with two strand twists as my previous set was started with comb coils. Hoping to remain loc'd for life this time around as I started them myself.
I just started my loc journey four days ago with two strand twists. I'm very excited to experience/see the change! I'm just going to let them do their own thing while keeping them maintained. Convincing myself daily to "keep my hands out of my hair"! Love love love your videos btw!
Come through lighting and glow. I started my locs twice and I loved going through both. I didn’t expect all the frizz with my first set but gladly I loooved that look. Now they’re mature and smooth. I miss my frizz.
Miss Keisha!! Let me tell you what my momma said lol.. I was telling her that I had a few straight ends ( I'm 2 months locd). She was telling me to use wax.. I was telling her that I'd rather not because wax doesn't wash out too good. She tells me "people with dreads don't wash their hair". I got loud and told her that they do and how it helps it to loc other than having a clean scalp and hair! I had to show her a few of your videos because I wasn't having that! It bothered me for a while, like is that what everyone thinks?¿ Anyway Miss Keisha I'm telling you this to say that you motivate me, I want my hair like yours! Soooooo many people know nothing about locs and it's sad 😢 But when family is lookin at me crazy I say, give me your phone, let me show you something. I take them straight to a couple of your videos from 8 years ago to now! They still doubt me but you're my inspiration!
foeva Ro I’m so lucky to have a family that all asked, “so when are you locking your hair?”... sorry that so many of you have to deal with the stereotypes from family. ☹️
Love your locs, I started locs in 2006 and cut them 6 years later. I'm going to start them again. Thanks for this info, your inspiring and beautiful. I found you through your book.
I started my locs in 2007 but I chopped them off 3 years ago.I damaged them so bad they had to go! I started a new set a year ago and I am so in love with them!!! I have been watching your vids since you started yours and your locs are beautiful!!! I am definitely gonna take all your advice this go round. Luv you gurl!!! ❤❤❤
Sweet. You're doing these kind of vids again. Those "thru the journey vids" I cut my first set last year after 6 years. I'm starting my new journey later this year
I’m so glad I watched this because my hair is shoulder length and I recently got comb coils and was wondering why my length was so short Lol I’m getting used to it now
Thanks for the advise. I just started my journey 2 weeks ago and I'm dealing with itchy scalp and frizzy ends. Other than that all is good. My hair before the palm twist was bra length now its chin length without stretching. Looking forward to what may bring during this new adventure.
I was two years loose natural before starting my locs. I left the salon with my coils brushing my shoulders and within two weeks my coils were up to my ears!
Thanks for the great tips! I am sooo ready to start my loc journey and I'm a tad anxious but extremely excited and you and your locs are simply beautiful! Just the push and motivation I needed! 💛
I haven't been able to get my short boy cut again. Been bout 8 years since my first pregnancy where I ended up with a bald spot that needs coverage but with this beginning stage I am loving the shortness. The shrinkage is real....Real cute ;)
I started my locs November 9, last year and my first month update started this month and I upload my first loc update on my youtube channel of my locs and I just can’t wait until my hair lock up but before I got my hair twist I use to get my hair braided in it was okay but I wanted locs so here I am with my locs and I’m happy with them oh and can you go watch my loc update of my video whenever you can.
I've had my locs going on three years and the right side of my locs are longer than my left side😩😩 anyone else dealing this situation? I'm just waiting but seems like my left side has always been wilder then the right.
My locs were started with form to do the coils, then maintained with honey. At first it was very sticky and stiff now it's not sticky anymore and not stiff anymore.
Nice video. I started my locs yesterday (7/8/19) with comb coils, straight after my big chop at 11 months post relaxer. It's definitely an adjustment with my teeny tiny comb coils, but I will get used to it and will probably also wear wigs at work or out and about if I become uncomfortable.
I just found your channel. So happy I did because you give so much information for people like me interested in starting the journey but not knowing enough. I have natural long hair and I’m thinking twist might be the best way for me to start. What size are your twists? I love your locs! They are exactly how I would want mine to be. Beautiful!
I've had short boy cuts in the pass and due to a bald spot caused by hormones when I was pregnant the first time 8 years ago I've never been able to go that short again. Loving this beginning stage because it's so short with shrinkage lol. I'll be 2 weeks on Tuesday:) The shrinkage is real....real cute ova here ;)
Thanks so much for this I’m around 5months in and honestly I dunno what my locs are doing so I’m just misting and oiling and letting it be, plus I have what I think is split ends (like stray strands at the ends 🤷🏾♀️) and I’ve clipped them 🙈. It’s a cool journey so far anyway and I love what you do #TeamGuyana (had to throw that in there) hehe
I am trying so hard to figure out how you styled your hair for this video. It looks so nice. Please consider a tutorial if you have time or even just hit me back with the details. Nice video Keisha.
Hey Keisha, I Love your locs and have been following you for a while. I started my locs four months ago with two strand twist and I interlock cause I have a active life. Will my locs still be able to get thick? I have type 4c hair. I’m not worried about it looking uniform, I just want to to be a good decent thick size
I'm 3 months in my loc journey and my hair is doing well....bud all over the place. I suffer from a very dry scalp and that has been a challenge lately. Any ideas on how I can help my scalp? I use aloe vera juice to hydrate them and oil, but it's not helping my scalp at all
I am starting my loc journey again. You mentioned patience, I am so bad at this. I know you stated just to leave them alone. I am going on a trip soon, so I need them to remain neat for at least a week, what simple style do you suggest, to keep them looking fresh. I also need to know what oil or cream to use to reloc. Thanks
I bleached my natural hair a couple of months ago. Should I put a dark rinse in my hair before getting my starter locs? I have my appointment this weekend. I’m excited and nervous.
Currently I interlock my locs, but want to palm roll to smooth down frizz/new growth. What types of products would you recommend to help it hold? I don't want to use beeswax, but I've tried with oils and find them too light and the rolls just unravel :(
Im coming up on 1 month of my journey with comb coils and I’m wondering what type of shampoo I should use this early? And Is conditioner okay to use or should I simple moisturize with oil?
Hey Keisha!! My locs are just over 2 months old. I am not really comfortable palm rolling my locs. What did you do to get more comfortable with palm rolling. I just did a retwist and I just finger twisted them until they wrapped around themselves kind of like small bantu knots. I wanted to make sure I twisted the entire loc through the bud for a more uniform look and it worked. Some people have been saying for me to palm roll and I tried to palm roll one or two in my last video but it was awkward. Also my son wants to start locs and this will be his second journey. The first time he told me I did not do them right because of the frizzy stage. They were about an inch or 2 long because of how short his hair was. He is almost 11 and you know kids can be cruel if your hair isn't looking right. I am thinking of letting it grow out for about 6 months to a year before locking this time. What do you think? Any recommendations? Thanks for all that you do. Raven
Raven Burns the frizziness is going too happen period. Until you have mature locs. Don't twist them too tight at the root like that either because that can cause breakage and the locs will thin-until they break.
I understand that frizziness happens regardless. The issue is that my son is 10 and he cant just wear a head wrap to school to cover the frizzies. He wanted the last set cut because he was being teased due to the frizzies. That was last school year. He has a very thick curly texture of hair and it frizzes quickly. He has been watching my loc journey and though I have some frizz and a similar texture to his hair my locs are longer than his were so it is not as bad. I also am an adult who could care less what people think about my hair and can wear whatever I want on my head. Any real advice Michael H. ? Thanks
I started my daughter locs in July/August 2017. I left it alone and have only retwisted three times. I noticed today on her 5 inch locs that the bottom 2-2.5 inches is thicker and almost appears to be about to fall off. Thankful it’s not more than 10 locs on her 80 plus loc head. But it’s concerning. What do you think is causing this? Should I retwist more often?
I just started my locs about 2 months ago Now and I’ve retested them twice. I don’t feel like they are locing or growing any. I went to a salon to get them started and have been maintaining them myself. I have washed them twice, but I used the stocking cap method to reduce unraveling. I use the mango and lime retwisting wax when twisting them and the salon used the two strand twist method to start them off because my curls were so lose. Do you have any more tips on why they may not be locing?? Or am I just being impatient lol.
Question for you! I want to maintain my locs by myself (washing and retwisting) and go to a salon once every six months. Is that advisable? I’m thinking, once I start maintaining at home, I won’t be able to go to a salon because my parts will be messy/uneven, or worse, have to be recreated. Thoughts?
So this is my third set of locs. Last time i swear. I love the amount and size of them. But the lady who did them didn't do a great job. She used the brown gel which you can actually see and she sprayed spritz in my hair. They arent comb coils at all and it looks like ive had them for weeks. They feel as tho they are budding already. I wasn't expecting that at all. I got it done 2/9/18 but i really just wanna wash my hair. Do you think it would be too soon?
I’ve had my locs since I was 5 and I’m now 17. I’m thinking of starting my locs again as I really don’t like how thin my locs are or the sectioning (is that the name?) method used. A lot of the locs at the front of my hair have broken off due to thinning cause I was hella stupid and liked to tie my hair in really tight ponytails :(. I love locs and I’ll always have them like I can’t imagine myself having anything else lol. However my parents are so against me getting it done lol but at the end of the day hair grows. Anywho what’s the best sectioning method to ensure volume? My hair is quite thick as well so I don’t feel like it’ll be an issue to achieve just the how I guess? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Zoe ._. My hair was loc’d by a Rasta Wombman under a tree lol. It was a spiritual experience. Your parting and size depends on the texture and thickness of your own hair. Diamond or fan (round) parting gives you more scalp coverage.
I think it's great that your using your hands while talking because a lot of people are more visual verses hearers.
The shrinkage is very real. I started with natural hair that when pulled, came down way past my shoulders. When I coiled it I didn't see anything mush at first. B. Mechele me too!! I don’t think I want mine smooth.
Hey 👋🏽 I just started my locs a month ago and I’ve been thinking about only retwisting the roots. Did it work well for you?
I'm almost at 4 months & my hair is budding all over the place. Coming along quite well
Jennifer Moore what is your progress now?
Thanks for the video . I'm four months locked and getting weary because of the shortness plus my hair is fine. Thanks for the encouraging words. You're right I need to stop looking at them and comparing my journey with others. Be Blessed

I'm 7 months in and I have been watching your videos since I started thanks for your amazing tips beautiful
I’m leaving my ends curly. I don’t plan on retwisting a thing
I almost forgot I was at work when that knuck if you buck came on lol had to get back to reality!

Why were they damaged?
Omg I just started my locs and the frizz kills me because I so used to wearing my hair up. But I’m enjoying the process of not having to gel my hair
Thank you so much for this. 4 months loced this past Tuesday and loving it x
Sweet. You're doing these kind of vids again. Those "thru the journey vids" I cut my first set last year after 6 years. I'm starting my new journey later this year
Michael H yes, I’m doing requested videos

Hi. Did you do the locs?
I haven't been able to get my short boy cut again. Been bout 8 years since my first pregnancy where I ended up with a bald spot that needs coverage but with this beginning stage I am loving the shortness. The shrinkage is real....Real cute ;)
Just clicked and you're already slaying me!
You are absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you so much, start Saturday and this was very helpful 💋 thanks Queen !

Yup I was the want that pull on my locs a few times. Looking forward to reading your book it's scheduled to arrived next week 🙌
My locs were started with form to do the coils, then maintained with honey. At first it was very sticky and stiff now it's not sticky anymore and not stiff anymore.
What do you use on your locs? 😍
It looks so soft.
The most cutest laugh 😍

Love that hair style! Can you do a tutorial plz
Roann KDHM okay, super easy

I've been growing my hair for about seven months and have a medium afro ... after watching this I'm wondering if I should wait now
This was really helpful, I love it!
Thanks for this video.
Can you do locs with 2 strand twists?
Stuven mu absolutely
Yes that's how I started...
Stuven mu that's how I started yesterday
Thats how i started also
good vid and info Queen
Is it necessary to trim split ends on toddler hair b4 starting locs?
Greetings I would like your view on what do you think is better to start your locs would it be 2 twists or enter locs
I have a ? How long should you wait to wash starter locs and can you wash you hair and wait let say a month for a retwist. Hair comb coil

THIS WAS SO GOOD...BUT I STILL OBBESSED SO BAD OVER MY STARTER LOCS 5MONTHS IN STARTED OUT NECK LENGTH BUT STILL WANT THAT SHAKE EFFECT LOL
I've been a loose natural for almost 5 years now (I went natural for my senior prom). I'm so familiar with the shrinkage struggle 😭😭😭😭
I'm 2 months and have been tempted to pull to check the length. Lol. My hair has shrunk a lot. I wash my hair despite the pundits who say I shouldn't.

I love your videos and I love Bilal’s soul sista
Great Video
Can u give any advice on braidlocs? Because of the texture of my hair I started with braidlocs
Hi did you do two strands to loc your hair?
Hey Keisha, I Love your locs and have been following you for a while. I started my locs four months ago with two strand twist and I interlock cause I have a active life. Will my locs still be able to get thick? I have type 4c hair. I’m not worried about it looking uniform, I just want to to be a good decent thick size
Karla Thompson just be sure to not interlock too much. I recommend 4-5 times a year only.
I'm a year and a half in and the frizz and TOO real!! My ex stylist never palm rolled my hair so I hope it's not too late to have even locs.
Shanice Ashley just palmroll after every wash until they look uniform
I'm 3 months in my loc journey and my hair is doing well....bud all over the place. I suffer from a very dry scalp and that has been a challenge lately. Any ideas on how I can help my scalp? I use aloe vera juice to hydrate them and oil, but it's not helping my scalp at all
I love you!!! 🖤🖤🖤
Thanks
Thanks for the advice,,,what you think about sea salt mixture for locing your hair?
Ahayah Servant I’ve never tried it but I hear it helps
Question help me understand I'm 3 months interlock and my hair is frizzie and the locs itself some are flat and the ends spilt apart what's going on
How long will it takes for your hair to start budding when starting locs?
How often should I be oiling my locks?
as needed. I can't tell you, you have to learn your hair.
Great information 😊
Is it ok to braid your locks & wear wigs during the starter & baby stages?
yes but I wouldn't recommend doing it too often, the braids may make your locs come out lumpy and bumpy.
I bleached my natural hair a couple of months ago. Should I put a dark rinse in my hair before getting my starter locs? I have my appointment this weekend. I’m excited and nervous.
whatever's your preference
Should I sleep with a scarf???
Shay F. Yes
Keisha Charmaine OMG YOU REPLIEDDDD❤️💜❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💜💜💜
Currently I interlock my locs, but want to palm roll to smooth down frizz/new growth. What types of products would you recommend to help it hold? I don't want to use beeswax, but I've tried with oils and find them too light and the rolls just unravel :(
Hey I been had my dreads for 4 months they still haven't locked but somebody said it may lock next year so how long did urs take
YOUR LIPS OMGGG

I’m thinking, once I start maintaining at home, I won’t be able to go to a salon because my parts will be messy/uneven, or worse, have to be recreated. Thoughts?
Grace Obe I don’t see a problem. I’ve been maintaining my own locs since the beginning.

i believe in washing when you need to
I understand that. I just dont know if its the stuff she put in my head or if its just in my head that causes a lil itching
Chelsie Jones either way, if you feel the need to wash it, then wash it. I can’t diagnose why your scalp is itchy, there are so many possibilities.
I’ve had my locs since I was 5 and I’m now 17. I’m thinking of starting my locs again as I really don’t like how thin my locs are or the sectioning (is that the name?) method used.
These new videos coming in droves. Wish this video was up when I started my loc journey after a year of going natural.
How often should you wash locs I'm 4 months loc'd and ppl tell me not to wash it until 4 weeks which I hate bc I'm starting to get build up :(

I started with comb coils. I am 16 months in. Can I palm roll the entire loc now? My locs are still forming? thanks
sandiricebeauty palm rolling should be fine at that stage
sandiricebeauty yes it’s best to palmroll while they are forming
So when you palm rolled the locs, did you use a product like a gel all the way down the shaft of the loc?
Stuven mu yes
