Ha ha! That’s exactly what I did! I realized half way and thought: F@ck! What now?! At 2am. I did the civil thing and made a hole big enough with an electric drill. If you can buy a cheap Dremel, it will help.
If you intend to do this, be sure both GameCubes have the same model number, that way you won't have issues with swapping the jewel or have to make any adjustments to the back housing (the two models have different ports).
@@GrinningWolfGames I'm looking at it again, and it seems between 11:11-11:29 that you could have just picked up the motherboard and heatsink together after removing the heat sink' s screws.
@@PaigeWylderOwO all good. The internals of this GameCube were faulty anyway and I just needed the shell. It was good experience tearing it down fully. I hope you enjoyed the video.
I have a Japanese region modded one and American GameCube. The Japanese one has trouble reading some discs, but the American one reads them all with no problem. I don't want to do a Shell swap, but could I take the American disc drive and connect it to the Japanese motherboard?
If it’s the lens component then probably yes. Check out Spawnwave’s channel as I believe he removes the component in one of his videos. I haven’t tried it my self.
This is literally the exact video I needed even down to the colours of GameCube!
This is one of the best comments I’ve ever had, thank you!
Love the GameCube. One of all time favourite consoles
In terms of aesthetics and design, it was an incredible little wonder.
Great video, that Spice Orange is 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! It’s easy to do too
Cool video! That orange colour is sick
Man I’m in love with it. It’s worth looking into damaged goods on eBay and scavenge them for parts. I’ll be uploading the orange controllers next!
I’d die for this bro
I got a broken Japanese GC for the shell and swapped it out. You can do it too!
Very well done, that looked like a great job to go through
I was going to custom the shell more but I think it’s better like this. The fact the jewel is embossed makes it unique
Amazing job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Bro!!
Great stuff!
I just need to make a small hole in the rear piece of mine for component cables. I have 2 working GameCubes but would prefer the black over my indigo.

Is that why it didn't fit? I want to swap my DOL-001 PAL into a spice orange DOL-001 will that be ok?
@@mattjcwig So long as the model number (DOL-001) is the same, the cases should be identical. So you should be fine.
I wish it was that easy for me to remove the casing of mine, it had been in the smoker's house so it was glued shut by smoke residue
Try using alcohol or a tiny bit of WD40 to losen it up. Good luck!
@@GrinningWolfGames I luckily was able to get it open by just scraping along the seam lines with a spudger tool
Wasn't it possible to get the mother board out without pulling off the heat sink first?
In all honesty I can’t remember. I think the heat sink cover was covering some screws that held the motherboard to the shell

What happened with the jewel? Ended up cut in half and the one you used is raised instead of sitting flush
Regional differences. Only realised when I was half way swapping the shell.
What’s the name of the song at :10?
It’s a song I made for the video, called the Long Road
@@GrinningWolfGames Thanks, do you have a soundcloud account or anywhere to listen to it in full?
I’ll make an account and send you over the details
