In the latest installment of the Punishing San Antonio series, I wanted to throw it back to one of Kobe's earlier days. Kobe scored 19 points, and hauled in 10 rebounds as the Lakers held off Duncan and the Spurs for an 80-75 victory. Shaq added in 26 points and Eddie Jones scored 21 of his own.
This is Kobe's first big performance in San Antonio. He lit up the Spurs with 10 points in the 2nd quarter. He also sealed the win for LA with 2 clutch free throws.
The San Antonio Spurs are my favorite team. I grew up watching the titanic battles between the Lakers and Spurs in the late 90s and 00s. Kobe, more than anyone else, Rose to the occasion to challenge us. Kobe loved playing in San Antonio, and he devastated us in many ways throughout the years.
I grew to respect Kobe, as he forced the Spurs to bring their absolute best. He is, undoubtedly our greatest rival.
I can’t believe he is gone. When I first heard of his tragic death, I felt as if my heart was ripped out of my chest. Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant were significant idols from my childhood...and it’s excruciating to lose one of them so young (compound that with his daughter and other friends as well).
Kobe Bryant is a welcomed member in the Hall of Fame, and a basketball player I will never forget. He was all about greatness. Few in the history of the sport could match his passion.
Kobe, it was a pleasure watching you play. RIP.

My favorite Kobe game is, of course, against the Spurs. 2001 WCF Game 1 when he dropped 45 points! Mamba Mentality.

All I got to say is everything the Spurs did and won they did it with nothing given with no help of the league they won it the right way. While Kobe and the Lakers won many times relying on the leagues help whether people want to admit it or not.Without the help of the league they would not have won what they won getting all the calls and most of the calls in their favor as well as always more free throws never their were times where they were at a disadvantage from receiving foul calls and at the most important times even getting phantom calls when they weren’t even foul calls.

Well put Ginobili Valdes, the owner of the Lakers was complaining to The NBA about Kobe and Shaq not getting the calls they “deserved” for being superstars after the Spurs won it in 99’. After that Kobe and Shaq were getting 20 free throws a game each. I am proud of The Spurs 5 championships too. I hate that 0.4 game, but I feel like when The Spurs beat The Lakers in 03’ was extremely satisfying.

Stfu Spur boys if LA was helped by the league, then what do you call the horseshit that happened in 2007 with Horry and that clothesline? Or how about Bruce Bowen purposely injuring shooters? Your organization ain't saints and angels either u weirdos. That's why your teams never got that love
