By the time the 996 GT3 reaches 73 RS levels, they’ll long be past the 25yr import restriction, so it will be the 996 GT3 RS that is the true successor. As a 6GT3 owner, I wouldn’t mind being wrong, but I’ll just be racking the miles on mine.
I agree 100%. It will probably be like the difference between a 73RS touring and light weight.
Would love to get my hands on a 996.1 gt3
@@Chris-pe9lj Me too. I think the 25yr import restriction will probably end about the time I save up enough for one, so it may work out perfectly.
That was such an awesome video. I'm 31 and just got my first Porsche a 1 owner 1999 996. The 996 GT3 is my dream car. It just checks off all the boxes; restrained aggression, motorsport pedigree, a raw driving experience, and for me was the coolest cars around during my most impressionable age. I joined PCA a few months ago and absolutely love the Porsche community. I would LOVE to see the 996 Cup video. Thank you!
Welcome to the Club!
Long time owner of 2004 Porsche GT3, great car. Just wish they offered the 2004 GT3 RS to USA back then.
I own a 2005 GT3 (996 variant). It is an amazing car.
Lucky you!
Nice to see more respect for the 996 cars.
As a proud 996 owner, I appreciate when such knowledgeable experts like Vu and Nathan show such appreciation for the much maligned 996. Another great show... is there anything Nathan doesn't know about every single Porsche ever made? Love when he's talking cars, just amazing
Nathan is a walking Porsche encyclopedia. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe.
I have a 2003 996 and love it. The haters are clueless, IMO.
Had a US spec G.Red 1999 996/911 Carrera with factory aero /GT3 kit....
Ran so well
The AC was so cold 👍
Miss that car
Very enjoyable and interesting commentary on the 996GT3. As the first and only owner of a 2004 Clubsport (I live in the Uk) I agree that it is a great car. I can’t see it ever approaching the status of 73RS or anything near it. But that’s good, I have no concerns about driving it to Le Mans or tracking it at Spa or the Nurburgring. To me, this car is defined by the engine. When you drive it, the engine goads you into driving harder and faster. My wife was driving it on an autobahn in Germany and had dozed off in the fire proofed Recaros. I woke up and she was cruising at 130 mph! The engine doesn’t have the torque of the 997.2 GT3 but i find it a more engaging drive. Largely because the gearbox is lighter, the pedal position is better and the car feels more agile. But the interior build quality does let the car down, particularly compared to my leathered and alcantaraed 997 GT3. Porsche Motorsport brake disks / rotors are particularly poor given the car’s intended use but there are great aftermarket products available. I’ve suffered water leaks as a result corrosion to the aluminium piping that goes round the back of engine. But otherwise it has just been maintenance and replacement / rebuild of consumable items. Values are still pretty low in the UK £65+k but it was never bought as an investment. Thanks for all the effort and time you invested to produce this video.
I’ve owned both a 996 Carrera and a 996 GT3. The base Carrera is a perfect daily driver. The GT3 wore me out as a street car. I now track a 996 GT3 Cup which is an absolute beast. It is very similar to the GT3 street car just that much faster due mostly to lighter weight.
The 996gt3 is the closest of all GT3s to the cup cars. Love mine
Love your videos. Mine is not as loud… 😂
Would LOVE a 996.1 GT3! Great episode guys, thanks!
Totally agree with the overuse of Alcantara
Thank you, thank you, I'm not crazy right?
With the renewed market interest in the 996 Turbo, would love to see it featured as well.
I own and occasionally track a 996.2 GT3. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven and will never be able to drive it to its potential.
Dang wish I queued up for this before it aired. Long term owner with almost 75k on the clock. Would have liked to hear a little more about on a few things. I always like to knock on the roof of mine with car friends. Sounds like a tin can. Doors are so lightweight for a factory car. Never really tied the 73 lightweight back to the 996GT3 in this story.
I do that all the time, then knock on the Carreras roof! Special cars.
996 GT3s are already $250,000AUD+ ($180,000USD+). I have a 996 Turbo and have had offers of $160,000AUD. Prices here are ludicrous.
One thing we DO have going for us though .... we don't have those ugly looking rear bumpers! Thank god.
I just can't past the headlights
Could you please make a detailed tech video on the 991.2 GT3?
We'll put it on our list!
Awesome content and info. Love this from the UK.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks 🙏🏻 for a great walkthrough 🏎💨
Glad you enjoyed it!
In the market for a 996 Turbo. What is one of the better tools to get to check for overevs history?
Was the GT3 roll cage an factory option for the 996 turbo models?
Are the adjustable stock suspension compatible with regular carrera?
Chris Moeslacher Las Vegas region!!!
73 RS is a pinnacle car for certain. But it was not “the road car” after the 930 was presented to the world in 1974 and then readily available to the public as a 77 model. The 930 remains the pinnacle 911 Porsche road car.
What about the 996.1 GT3? Any insights on its future?
We didn’t get those in the US, just the .2. I don’t see any reasons they shouldn’t be as or more desirable in the future. Personally I’d prefer a .1
Here in Switzerland, the .1 getting up to the .2 level. I really hope the .1 will get even more expensive than .2, because I got a .1 GT3 CS.
Very special about the .1 was, they were handbuilt in Weissach, not on the regular assembly line.
@@philippschnyder9605 Once the 25 year import restriction is over you'll see demand rise from people like me in the US that would prefer a .1 so I'd imagine prices will climb also.
A few years ago I wanted rid of my old school 930. I test drove a 996 GT3, sorry what a disappointment. Kept the 930, later sold it to fund a build of a proper longhood system hot rod build.
What were you most disappointed with? Just curious. I have driven a 930 but not a GT3 of any sort.
@@flat6fever680; it seemed slow. My 930 was seriously boosted and very raw, running sticky 335 Toyo 888Rs out back she stuck well. In fact glad I never lost it! That 996 GT3, just seemed boring. Well balanced maybe and quite likely fast in terms of lap times around a track.
Amazing content fellas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Does the Turbo has same coolant issue?
Yep, same problem.
Why is a grown man wearing overalls? What is this my buddy?
LOL. Once you work on cars (or around the house) with overalls, its a game changer. Especially when they are Bosch factory overalls like these. Super comfortable and practical for tools etc. Give them a try :)
@@PorscheClubofAmerica I’m wearing them right now actually lol

That wasted minute at the beginning of the video is very annoying and unnecessary
😱😱😱
I still can't get over the headlights,uhggg
I wish more people felt like you so prices would stay down. ;)
