The rest of the world is shooting brick walls and complaining about the edge distortion and vignetting of lenses costing thousands. But we’re all here marveling at the beautiful and flawed aesthetic of a plastic lens from the bin. I’d rather be here with all of you. You are are my kind of people.
Stay here, it's nice
Something so satisfying about making your own devices lol
Very well said, sir!
Lol 😋
Priceless comment, agree completely.
One more proof that being a good photographer is more important than have good equipment.
This lens is now even sharper! It’s RIDICULOUS how good this disposable lens is
The frame at 3:44 is REALLY trippy. My mind keeps reading the ferris wheel cabins as closer than the windmill, but then the blades go in front of the cabins and I'm just lost!
There is something about the edge blur that really makes this lens feel special. Amazing how sharp this thing is in the main field of view.
it feel like nostagic and dreamy..
Also if you watch Rebel Moon, they have anamorphic lenses that having very similar edge focus roll off like this one. This lens has a really cool aesthetic.
It makes sense considering human sight is only really sharp in the center of our field of view, so this lens feels familiar in an instinctual sort of way.
The edge blur and chromatic aberration from this plastic lens, plus a high ISO with grain gives the video a very pleasant "vintage" look. It's funny how the old 8mm film look can be so desireable. So much that we try to recreate it on a very modern digital camera. Ironic isn't it. Btw, where did you source your disposable camera?
you don't need to buy them new, I went to a film development store and they were happy to hand me three kodak funsavers they were about to throw out!
@@IsaHolten Free is good! Thx.
Oh wow this is stunning. Would the model designer be open to listing the 3D file online for purchase? Would love to print / adapt one for my canon 90d
sadly, this lens only work on mirrorless cameras. If you adapt it in a reflex, you will only be available to shoot in macro dure to the distance from the lens to the sensor.
Yes, absolutely, i put a link to his model in the description.
it will only work on mirrorless camera as the mirror adds too much distance from the sensor.
but we could work on other 3D printed lens project together. ;)
I dont think that it would work on a 90D. Im 99% positive that you can only use it on a mirrorless camera.
@@frandecatta May depends on the mount as well. I remember M42 would not work on Nikon's F-mount via an adapter (like you said, it can only shoot macros), but Canon EF works beautifully.
@@trunghoadang3710 yes, but this lens is designed to a short distance between lens and sensor (mirrorless). In a 90D, due to the mirror it ads distance that makes this disposable lens only for shoot macro when using a reflex. EF mount had the shortest distance between mount and sensor of all the reflex, that's why is very popular adapting other lenses. You can always ad some space with adapters, but never shorten it.
Love the update on this project. I bought some spare caps for a project like this on the future.
This is just innovative and magical and magnificent to say the least. Awesome work.
That's great to hear !
It's very amazing how sharp this lens can do, but I still prefer the look of version 1. At least it gives the feeling of using the disposable camera especially with Fuji like X-E series :)
This lens returns me in my childhood, when my parents photographed me with a simple camera on kodak gold film. And this pictures are the best in my life!
Do one where you put an expensive lens on a disposable camera.
It's not an interesting project because the picture is determined by the film and lens, not the camera. So it will look exactly the same as with an expensive analog camera. With digital camera it's a different story... I have some trash dv handicam and "documentary" dv and the difference is stellar
I wrapped black tape around my disposable lens to make it fit tight in a slightly oversize hole in the body cap. I'm able to push and pull it a bit for distance and macro. But this would be way nicer...I guess I'll have to get my 3D printer working again. Don't suppose there is a design for Micro Four Thirds?
I got an M42 to Micro 4/3 focusing helicoid adapter, added some black foam, and a small black cap with a hole in it, and now I have a precision focusing disposable camera lens. I can even fudge it in and out to set infinity focus at the stop.
I would happily pay for a Z mount version. Are there any lookouts for this? I don’t have a 3D printer or anything but would be interested if the price was reasonable.
I'm amazed to see the picture and video you made with the lens ! It looks like you spend as much time testing it as I took to make it ! I'm impressed !
Thanks a lot!, it's all because you made this amazing design
Hey Antoine, would you be willing to share your 3d printable design for all the people that have a 3d printer at their disposal? Would be so great!
The lens itself surprisingly sharp, and the blue-ish vignette at the corners looks cool.
I'm surprised there's a barongan (red: bha rong un) at 2:38. A little bit funky tho..
I'll have to design an adapter for my 5DmkIV!Makes me feel silly for buying so much Canon L glass! 🤣🤣
I followed the steps in your previous video, on my Fujifilm X-S10. It has worked really well, but I was running into the same problem you were, where it was never quite in focus! Is there any way this design could be adapted to different size mounts? I would Loooove to own this ring that Antoine made!!!
I will let him know !
I would LOVE it if this could be adapted for Nikon Z mount
did you get this focus 3d print to work on a fujifilm x mount?
Available only for SONY camera and in Europe... He should sell is 3D model to expand to the entire world.
I did 😉
@@antoinevanderstraeten1315 Hi. Will you make adapters for other mirrorless mounts?
@@PeterKoperdan Hello, sorry but I won't because I don't own other brands of camera and I would need them to test it and adjust the design accordingly. It is important to get tolerances exactly right and it's unlikely to get it right on the first try.
But I dont mind selling you or anyone else the native 3D file if you want to make it yourself.
@@antoinevanderstraeten1315 I lack the necessary skills, but thanks for the offer ;-)
it's really cool that this is possible, you've done great work, but honestly, I liked the before better! I think it's a way more interesting and unique view, very dreamy and weird!
Nice! Have you maybe measured the original flange focal distance before disassembling?
Disposable camera lens... lens, now with focus helicoid! --time-- Now with variable aperture! --time-- Now with F/1.4, 7-element aspherical... and the plot is lost. Or is it? Love the DIY!!
I hope he can create the same 3D printed adapter for Canon RF mount :') I would purchase it instantly
Hi Mathieu! Great video!
What's the name of the song in the background?
Which part?
I'm truly impressed how it turned out
Those shots of the ferris wheel almost make the lens look like a tilt lens. This is cool!
Les images sont super propres pour un objectif si peu cher
en effet !
Looks good but you can buy completed lenses from China with focus ring for less than your 3d model :(
Could we get this in M-Mount for Leica cameras?
if something like this could be rangefinder coupled... i would LOVE to use one of these on my Epson R-D1s
I did this with the disposable lense and my cameras default lense cap. It ended up only being able to focus from 6 inches away. Would I need to purchase the "focusing cap" from the description to fix this problem? 😔
I finally got a 3d printer, and I'm interested in giving this a try just for fun. Do you have a better way to get the 3d file other than facebook? I seriously don't have a FB account, and I'm not giving away all my personal info to meta in order to get a file. >.
Nice invention 😊
Thanks 😊
Can you please give me the person that I can contact to order this lens?
It'll be very useful if we have some options to change lens on this contraption... Smartphone lenses kit will go perfect on this.. it'll be nice for v3 of this lens
hey ! I did this as well on my Sony a7II but I can't seem to get sharp fotos from anything that is further away than 30cm is there a setting to fix this ? or did I do something wrong
I saw a short video of a guy who did an anaglyph pinhole camera by making the two holes and covering them with red and blue gel. I want to do this, except with two disposable lenses.
it almost looks -too- clean compared to how raw and rough the previous model was! I can't wait to try both by myself and see...
I did this with just the camera body cap but it only focuses ridiculously close to the camera (like a couple cms) why would this be?
I LOVE the lens I ordered from you.
I wish I could buy a copy of this lens.
Bleh kah saya menyalin 3d nya bro😅🙏🏽
The idiots at reddit has a thread on DIY lens making but they closed the thread. Why does reddit close cool threads?
Can u put smartphone interchangeable lenses on this ...use the lens clip on the cap and show us the results
I bought the 3D print file from Antoine and am now using it on a Sony A5100. Great work, I love the retro vibe it gives photos!
Do you have a link where I can buy that 3D print file?
Do you have a link where I can buy that 3D print file?
Really? I have a mirror less camera with no lens and the cheapest ones are $700. I do have a old film camera lens and the lens cap. Will this really work?
In a mirrorless just get an adapter for your camera mount that can use the specific lens mount you have and it will work perfectly with manual focus.
Anyone else get a burn notice vibe from the low light footage?
Just a what if, if we use a go pro replacement lens?
I don’t have a full frame, will this work with a dslr
Amazing. From a disposable piece of plastic. Wow.
Indeed it is!
Why can't I open the 3D model link?
Espectacular resultado 🤩🤩🤩
Do you have to have a certain size sensor for this to work?
Can you share the STL files?
I just discovered this last night and I think I finally found an art form I would like to pursue. Shooting m4/3 olympus. STOKED to make one tonight
Is there anyway to use this on my td Markii? 😢
Your filmmaking is brilliant. No matter what lens you are using. Bravo.
Just to clarify.
Does it cover full frame?
Do you need to use a mirror less camera to get the less close enough to the sensor?
Yes and Yes
@erwinmarionneaux - I love it! Could you tell which looks you used and if you can purchase the 3D Printed adapter somewhere or how you made it? Would be awesome ✌🏼
Does it also work on SLR cameras?
Hi Mathieu, love what you are doing! Can we get in touch about 3D printing the adapter with a resin printer? A fan from the Netherlands
I really like to watch your channel.. Lots of inspiration.... Could you tell me how many cm or mm from the lens to the surface of the lens move to make the picture as sharp as your pictures?
Compared to the many excellent lenses I know that you have, WHY ???
Hi I love it. I nade it and atached it to my Canon M50 and I cant take photos and videos. Do you know what should I do ? I was very thirelled with the result 😂
I have this lens too and it’s good. Expect to crank the ISO when dark and also crazy haze when hit by direct light
Hey sir,
Can I use any lens to make it?
can you use any 3d printer?
The previous lens looked cooler. Now your pictures look the same as my phone camera. I use a cheap Chinese phone.
Reminds me a bit of Pentax 110 lenses I use on Sony and Canon APS-C cameras.
I really love the look and feel of this disposable camera that i just had to emulate it in davinci, but the real is just something different it looks so good
Ordered my copy of the focus adapter :) Thank you Mathieu for recommending this little marvel!
After i saw the first video, i did the same with my 3d printer! Funny to see you upgraded yours the same way :)
There’s a charm here, the right alchemy of a stopped-down in-focus lens with the flaws of a plastic build. It doesn’t really have the contrast to resolve the finest details, but the detail that it can resolve looks excellent. The video feels like home movies, the color rendering feels classic. A winner.
I’m amusing myself with the idea of a cine housing for funsaver lenses, and can imagine that it might be the right sort of lens for getting a certain vibe for a feature film.
Can you send me file for 3d print? For Fujifilm
Do you have the file?
It's always the person behind the lens, never the camera. Way cool, to see this plastic disposable camera lens being improved.
Have a great weekend into advance !
25 Euros!! 🐀 I can buy a helios 44 for that price. and no need of printer.
Too good
it is expensive compare to even the cheap lens on amazon but as I make it myself one at a time if I sell it for less it's not worth the trouble. If I could make a batch of a few hundered that would lower the price to a fraction of it but making only a few units is what makes it expensive. You can get the file and print it yourself, that makes it way cheaper.
Salut Mathieu. Love your videos! I would also love if you show us a little behind the scenes, your tricks to preserve colors and quality when uploading on youtube. Cheers and love from Vienna.
Great idea!
Something about the look of this footage takes me back 20 years. In a very good way.
Hi Mathieu, I tried something similar but with a clip-on fisheye lens for a phone. However, the results are very poor, I can't get any image out of it besides light blur. Any ideas?
Try to made a tiny apperture
I can't seem to get the right distance to focus on my canon m maybe this would fix it
Next step is to 3D print a tilt and/or shift mount maybe?
I mean, that's actually really impressive how good the lens is once you can focus, but I feel it looses A LOT of the character and the overall nostalgic feel that you get from the disposable camera. Keep up the crazy work!
Awesome results.
I'm still shocked there are single use cameras/powerbanks/vapes etc. so much waste.
Great point!
Beautiful! Well done 👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀
You really need to try the Rubin-1 😋 I know you'll love it
It’s perfect for an early 2000s look
I think this all goes to show that light is light no matter what it travels through
Would this work with a DSLR or is it another cool kids only mirrorless thing?
Cool kids only
would this also work with cameras that has mirrors?
C'est génial, ça me donne envie de recycler tous mes toys cameras.
I would love this for Fuji-X
Is it works with apsc camera (nikon d7100)? I mounted agfa disposable camera lens to body cap and focus distance is very short. I am capable of taking only macro photos with quite poor quality. Could somebody give me advice? Thanks in advance ;)
the lens is too far from the sensor, you might get better results taking the lens from a cheap polaroid land camera
@@Shrek_Has_Covid19 So mirrorless camera are better for this purpose ?
@@adamjanuszewski2688 yes as you can put the lens closer to the sensor as the mirror will not be in the way
Okay now that's even cooler
GReat, now I need that lens...
Rendu doux très agréable
This feels so nostalgic
Fabulous 👍❤️❤️
A very good job!
Great idea - great work!
This is awsome
