Didn't work for me. I tried this on Nikon Z and Sony A mount and the Lens/flange distance mounted on the cap is wrong for both systems. Only blurry images. I can set the whole assembly on the front of the Nikon Z cap and its nearly there with some slight tweaking of distance. I've only ever seen this done with Sony E mount systems, so perhaps that's the only one with the proper lens to sensor distance with the cap mount. Oh well, it was fun to try anyway
@@nirpatel6842 can you move the lens closer to the sensor or further away with washers? Similar to what I tried first (and show at the end of this video)
@@RCodyWanner I tried it today with a Canon SL3, the distance is not good for infinity focus. It works as a macro lens because the focus is really close, but I can't get the lens closer to the sensor without risking damaging the camera itself, so there's no way to focus on the distance

YES! i was battling those comments in my head the whole time i was making this (it took me 3 days because of the different iterations - i had thought it would only take 1/2 day - so the mental battle was there in full force) - just thinking of people saying, “why not capture it sharp & clinical, then degrade it after the fact?” - just something wonderful about getting it done in camera i guess!
Watch out for the super glue fumes. It can wreck your camera. It can leave deposits over on your shutter blades. (I modded a cheapo camera from 5below, using super glue ended up hazing over all the parts.)
so i live in japan and we have toooons of junk film cameras for sale for pennies at local secondhand stores so i will definitely be tearing some apart for their lenses for projects now after seeing this success lol cant wait to try this with all kinds of other lenses not just a disposable.
🔥🔥🔥 Seriously one of the more interesting videos in a while. Just such an interesting idea and now I really want to try it. Love the approach of just asking a local film place for the recycled camera. 2 days in a row Cody, thanks.

If you want to avoid getting shocked just charge the flash and taking a photo, the reason it shocks is because the capacitor is charged. Using the flash will discharge it and prevent this 👍
that's actually exactly what i did, which made me think i shouldn't get shocked, but i SURE did haha! not sure why? do you think the capacitor just starts to recharge automatically?
I love the look that this lens gives at the photos. Reminds me the mood of the photos that I took in my childhood! Talking about shoot to this to clients... I don't know if I wuld with this lens, but this year I shoot some pictures during couple photoshoot in weddings with a pinhole and everyone said the same: gives some nostalgic look that reminds to parents and grandparents photos. Just like an idea :)
Awesome video dude , oh thanks for the advice I had talked to you on Twitter about writers block the vids you sent me helped out a lot keep on keeping on my friend
What sort of post processing are you doing on the images shown here? I’ve just made one for my camera and they’re not looking quite ‘disposable camera’ enough for my liking :(
I would be worried that the lens would break and then scratch my sensor, I would use some heavy, heavy duty adhesive for peace of mind and maybe a little caulk to not only keep light out but any particles that could slip through the cracks, besides those two things I totally want to make this, I have a tone of body caps from when I ordered rear E mount caps
great idea! I used gaff tape on the inside of mine to catch any dust or particles - with caulk, just make sure you don’t change the distance the lens is from the sensors (because of how thick the caulk is
Just tried this. A few points. Very difficult to get the quality of images seen here. You'll probably get dust or dirt in the lens during disassembly. A lot of tweaking required to get the focus correct, distance from sensor has to be millimetre accurate to get usable pics. Sand and clean lens cover after drilling or You'll get dirt inside your body!
i think that is what it is using for the stabilization calculation -- i think you can change that (for when the lens does not communicate its focal length, like in this case)
Hello! recently i saw a version where the lens is glued on top of the lens cap and instead of a large hole, a smaller hole is drilled on the lens cap. I was wondering if you would know what would the benefit be of having a top mounted lens as compared to what you did in this video. My intuition is that the smaller hole would work akin to a pin hole camera? thus maybe better focus? not entirely sure.
i tried that first actually, it was less focused for me, but that could have been because the hole wasn't as smooth as it should have been -- i do think that the hole i drilled here could have been smaller -- but yeah not super sure what the different effects would be
Does not work with Canon M system either. But instructions were easy and everything worked great only the focus did not work, for this the lens would have to be a few millimeters further away, unfortunately I had already glued everything and so there was nothing more to do.
@@SheldsenDave you might be able to make it work, but you’ll have to try getting it either closer to the sensor or further away, with black spacers (washers perhaps)
Yes unfortunately the lens and flange distance are different - there was one that I got pre-2015 that had 2 plastic lenses, it was crazy - but yeah couldn’t make them work
apologies for the delay - no i don't think it will since the 90d has a mirror (DSLR) -- i don't think you will be able to get the lens close enough to the sensor due to the mirror
@@RCodyWanner nothing! Omg! hahaha just you kept giving warnings to be careful. It was really cool to watch! I think I would get zapped 😅😅 would probably be worth it though

Can u make this again for different camera
which one?
So, this is why you were asking that lens question on twitter. XD
indeed!!
Gonna try this myself, got a bunch of camera bodies from a Camera Shop. Just wondering, why do you specify that the camera must be post 2015 model?
the lens on the earlier ones are different, so the flange distance doesn’t work on them (they produce blurry images)
