I am an old rock and roller born in 65. I graduated in the 80s. My older sister and I saw her in concert a few years ago and we literally cried listening to her songs/stories. Honestly, she’s a National Treasure and I’m so lucky to have met her and hear her beautiful music in person.

A song that's both sweet and sad. And, can make the eyes start to water up a little.

I really love your Dolly reactions!
Dolly never misses. She has fun songs, sad songs, inspiring songs, gospel songs... Everything. Hard to narrow down a recommendation from nearly 50 albums, and I've been a Dolly superfan for 40 years, so my recommendations tend to be deeper cuts, but I'll start by recommending some
"Welcome Home" - perfect for today (D-day)
"Better Get To Livin'" - sums up Dolly's attitude for life and her spirit...
I also think "I'm Gone" is really fun (and has a trippy video)
    Enjoy!!

Dolly casts a spell with this performance. The song is influenced by the songs Dolly's mother sang to her children. Many of them were centuries old ballads from the British Isles. I think Dolly is more deeply rooted in those ballads than any other folksingers you could gather. Most of them started back in the 1960's as earnest young people who studied the music in college. Dolly grew up breathing in this music along with the Smokey Mountain air. Back in the 1960's Simon and Garfunkel sang "Scarborough Fair," while Joan Baez sang "Silver Dagger," and many sang "Barbara Allen." Dolly has yet to record "Scarborough Fair," but she's done great recordings of the other two. Songs she has written that show that influence include Me and Little Andy, Down from Dover, Pleasant as May, Little Sparrow, My Blue Tears, Mountain Angel, and those are the ones I can think of now.
