The 5th need is mega important. Sometimes I get so discouraged about coloring when I screw something up beyond repair lol. I'm like "what was I thinking". But, then I realize I do have an imagination up there, and I just need to keep practicing to pull it out. I also ordered the color wheel. Thanks for sharing your perspective on the things a colorist needs.
these are great tips. I really need to get some swatches to keep my colors organized and practice blending. I use scratch paper to see what the colors look like since they are different from the box. And a color wheel would be helpful too. Thank you for this. 😊❤❤❤
I took your test mentioned and I agree with the results. I am an introverted, therapeutic, craftsy-artsy, creatively unsatisfied artist. I’m excited to read about what it means and how to get better with my art. Thank you Jennifer and Steve for all you do. ❤
Absolutely loved this video-great tips! Choosing inspiring art and having good lighting really do enhance the coloring experience. And you're so right about the importance of patience and kindness towards oneself. As someone who loves using watercolor pencils, I’ve found that high-quality card stock really brings out the best in this medium. Thanks for such an informative and encouraging video!
The 5 things a colorist needs is spot on, especially #5, being a colorists isn’t made in a day. I hate swatching but I see how important it is. Thanks 🙏🏽 for the informative and encouraging video. 👍👍🙏🏽🙏🏽💞💞
Great video! Thank you, Coloring Bliss! I discovered a proper-sized chair mat is helpful in moving around between desk space and supplies storage. It should be large enough to cover the area where your chair "travels" the most. My other favorite is a range of erasers. I have a Derwent automatic (battery-operated), a Tombow Mono Ink "sand" eraser -- for stubborn marks--plus a Staedtler gum eraser. Similar items are available in other brands' lines.
I have a tiny LED light I can clip on the earpiece of my glasses, and move it around so it shines into any shadows from my hand. I think about $25 on Amazon? (My spouse got them - a set of two in a single pack - as a gift, so I don’t know details.) It always seems silly to me, but I sure like having it. 😁
Wow! I'm a member of your website and I love it. You're very right about the 5 essentials and I do all of them, with the exception of the Ott Lite. I just added it to my wish list on Amazon. Paper is the most important for me. I couldn't agree more. I've found that with great paper, even your cheapest mediums will look like you used expensive mediums. I purchase my paper from your store as well and I absolutely love it! I encourage all your followers to purchase your paper because it's really awesome! I've made beautiful art with it!
My birthday is this month and am planning on nabing some of your books and I agree you do need to be patient and kind to yourself with coloring. I'm not no where neare as good as everyone I know but I do it for fun and it helps me emotionally especially now since I just lost my mom back in December.
My studio has a north-facing window and I also have daylight simulating bulbs in all of my lights around the house as well as my off lights in any area that I'm working on coloring, art, cross stitch or diamond painting.
Thanks for this! Especially the swatching 😊 I’ve been wanting to color but felt stuck Now to print out those charts and get swatching! Jennifer, you are great as always!😊😊
I picked up pencil to cope with loss and it really has been a godsend. I would recommend colored pencil to anyone at any age. Also, getting a new set of pencils is the ultimate high. Just be prepared 😂
Great tips. I suffer from carpal tunnel and rotator cuff issues so I get discouraged with the adult coloring books that have so many small areas to color. Children’s books are too simple. It’s hard to find a happy medium.
Hello can you please kindly recommend colored pencils ✏️ that does not bleed 🩸 through bible paper I do a lot of bible coloring and journaling thank you 🙏
Great tips! Loved the Ott light suggestion of moving to the other side, seems maybe basic, but I have never thought of doing that that lol. Be gone you nasty shadows!
Have you done a review yet of the new Fabre Castell Black box pencils? I just saw a RUclips video show up within last day and they’re out on Amazon in 50 and 100 pencil set. I really look to your honest, non-biased reviews before new purchases especially with colored pencils, gel pens and markers.
And..... the 7th item you need is...... Amazing people like Jennifer and Steve who inspire and encourage everyone to become more artistic and creative everyday!!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
What I love using the most is crayola colored pencils and Aen art gel pens they are the best I don’t use any of other coloring stuff like liquids if I mess up I just know what I use and it’s easy and simple all that extra stuff is expensive I just recommend the crayola 120 colored pencils and the gel pens to add sparkle that’s all we need
Good morning from Perth Australia! It’s 9am on a Thursday as I watch this video as it goes live. I wonder how many of the 5 I’ll have already? What will I have an excuse to buy over the weekend? I can’t think of a better justification for buying more art supplies than “but Jennifer said I needed it!”
❤ Thanks for this excellent vid. I have a serious problem with lighting. I went to Amazon to look for the lamp you have. I could not find it. Could you tell me where you got yours. Thanks in advance. Great vid.
I am still learning how to color, but I haven't colored for a long time due to lack of time, but the paper is very important, I live in Spain and my first book was The Secret Garden by Johanna Basford, the paper of the Spanish edition is very very bad and you can't give many layers of color because literally disintegrates, this demoralized me a lot and I quit for a time (and suddenly the pandemic attaked us and I discovered Diamond Painting), also my pencils were pretty bad and I didn't have a wide color range but the opposite, my mother gifted me the Bruynzeel Sakura watercolor pencils and I like them a lot, but the set of 48 was small so I decided to buy the lovely and precious set of 120 from Polychromos (buying Prismacolor here is almost impossible) and paper was still a big problem, I gave up that book and started buying the UK editions which have a very good paper, but now I've discovered Rita Berman and I am totally in love with her books. I am addicted to your videos and I write down on my swatches notebook many of your recommendations so I can only thank you for all your amazing work and your advices. All the best.
Not an ott light fan. But I do have a north window. And a good lamp with nice white light for night coloring. Which I do a lot. I should say evening coloring. Tfs
Me i need a color wheel ❤ i love to color i got all my Johanna basfords books love her work..paper does matter omg i get frustrated when my pencils or gels wanna look odd and streaks
Hi, thank you for your efforts. I live in Turkey and Iwant to learn where I can find your coloring books because i loved the way you designed the books: with spiral and single mix media pages...
Wonderfully done, Thanks to you both! I do believe I have all of these including some of your freebee swatches that you have given away (Thank You!) I was thinking of getting one of those new swatch-books from Jerry's have you tried one? I am curious as to what you think? I know your selling your own books, but these are for many mediums as well as oil paints! Just curious. Thank you for all that You and Steve and Rose do for us!
Thank you so much to both of you! Just a question, for coloring mandalas which most of them have got very small pieces to paint on, have you ever paint with mechanical pencil with colored leads ??
Every colorist needs a Rose…. So make that six things ;)
I have a little Bichon Frisée named Rosie! So, that’s pretty close. 🌹

I'd say an honorable mention would be a good desk or table with a comfy chair or a happy nest that you can snuggle into like your bed or a soft chair!
I like this. Thanks for sharing
Look at Rose🤣😂 she’s so focused on you! Adorable
I love little Rose. She is adorable.
I enjoy seeing Rose listen to you so intently! 🥰

I haven't colored since I was a child, and I have just turned 73. I didn't realize there was so much to coloring. I need classes on " How to color"

Thx, great video! And love your hair!
Good tips and most of them would apply to drawing as well! ☺
Thank you so much. Best wishes from South Brasil. I'm registered now.
Thanks guys ( and Rose too) for another thoughtful video. I totally agree with your 5 + 1 things every colorist needs. Especially number 5!🖍👍
Excellent video, thank you so much. I especially agree with no. 5 so important, 🎉❤

Light, light, light YES! And good reading glasses 😂
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing 😊🤗
I just love Rose! Greetings from the Netherlands.
North window is also better for protection against U/V exposure since it doesn't put full sunshine in your window.
Thank you, this will help me colour better :))
You're welcome 😊

We can ship you our books when you order at ColoringBliss.com but shipping is going to be VERY expensive unfortunately.
Hello and good evening from the Pacific northwest!
Question: what is the best surface on which to color?
Hi!
I just tried the quiz. When i hit the results button, nothing happened. Did i do something wrong?
Love your channel 😊❤❤❤❤
I just moved my studio one room over because it has two windows! To me, you can’t produce great art when you can’t see it and I have those shadows.
Hi Jennifer can you blend gel pen I us them all time
I just bought mixed media paper from Coloring Bliss
So well said.Tysmfs

Hello, and Bonjour from Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦
I tried to take the quiz but it wouldn’t allow me to select answers 🙁
Thank you so much to both of you!
Just a question, for coloring mandalas which most of them have got very small pieces to paint on, have you ever paint with mechanical pencil with colored leads ??
Am i the only one who misses one of the most important item, the coloring pencils? Hard to color without them 😉
Good evening, from Guadalajara México
Great tips!! Howdy from Ohio 🇺🇸😊
Have you reviewed brush pens anywhere? Im trying to decide if i want to try them but havent been able to .
And oh! Love all your videos! Hence i come here for any pen query. Hehe.
Is your dog a Maltese or a miki?
Rose looked like she anticipating to be #1😅😅

I cant find any interesting books!! Flowers..vegetables..buildings..animals..etc..I've done that .i want to get into the more detailed books!!
How can we color without Holbein Artist Colored Pencils ? 😅😅😅😅✌️✌️✌️✌️
👍👍👍👍
Colorists also need a dog to look at them adoringly.
