  • In her last event in Tokyo, five-time Paralympian Jessica Long won her 29th Paralympic medal and 16th gold (third gold in Tokyo) in the women’s 100m butterfly S8. Sixteen-year-old Viktoriia Ishchiulova of Russia won the silver.

    For those wondering about the classification:
    S8 - swimmers with coordination affected to a low level, movement moderately affected in the legs, the use of one arm only, or the absence of limbs.
    Swimmers in this class are at almost full capacity but lack all-round muscle power.

    She is the Michael Phelps of the Paralympics
    and she won one more medal than he did with his career count of 28. Legendary. She's had a _long_ career as a Paralympian, and she continues to wow the audience. Her talent knows no bounds. An athlete worthy of her title as Queen. But kudos to the Russian who managed to catch up to Long with only one arm.

    WOW THEY DID'NT EVEN MENTION THE GIRL WITH 1 ARM THAT GOT SILVER....GUYS 1 ARM UNBEILVEABLE!!!

      @@roybal1975 why should it be mentioned? Everyone there had some kind of physically disability. The woman who won had bad legs while the woman with one arm had amazing legs. It was really a race of arms versus legs.

    The only other swimmer to win the same event (200m IM) in four Olympic Games is Michael Phelps - Jessica Long is simply spectacular!

    Love her how amazing she is....we watched her story and this inspired us to get off our backsides and do something. As retirees we manage three miles in a treadmill...but we dig deep. She is one of our inspirations. Love to all.

    All of these athletes deserve recognition. Swimming the butterfly is hard enough...but doing it without legs or the other girl with only one arm...is such an amazing feat!!

    Interestingly (at least I think so) is that her husband’s last name is Winters, so her name is Jessica Long-Winters (if she chooses to hyphenate). Is there a better last name for a woman born in Siberia?

      Jessica's life has been full of coincidences. Like her favorite childhood movie was Anastasia and her biological little sister's name is; you guessed it, Anastasia.

      It should be 16 gold, she had 13 before this olympics and this is her 3rd ,should be 4th but was dq in the 4x100 free relay
