I really wish they weren't essentially nerfed in this war just to make the Banished seem like an unstoppable force only the Chief could defeat. They may have brute strength and numbers but even an S 4 in theory and lore should be exceptionally quicker and smarter to put up a huge resistance. In reality this should be a 30-70 ratio of odds instead of an unwinnable battle in vain.

To the halo community on this thread if you were a spartan during the Zeta Halo conflict how long do you think you would have survived?
Let me list the things you would have to contend with.
      1) Banished ramming of Infinity: Assuming you weren't anywhere near the hangar bay's where those 4 dreadnoughts hit you wouldn't have gotten killed instantly.
      2) Banished Invasion of Infinity: Following the ramming of Infinity you would have to follow typical security procedures and defend the ship at all cost from wave after wave of banished forces which seeing as it only took 4 minutes for Infinity to fall is a metric crap load (Also their is no running away for from all of it, you wouldn't have been selected for the spartan 4 program in the first place if you had been found to be weak willed to begin with)
      3) Evacuation Protocol: Assuming you survive the ramming of the infinity and survived defending your post from waves of banished troops; your next objective would be to fight your way through corridors packed with banished infantry to the nearest drop pod, drop ship, or escape pod and evac the ship. As a spartan however you are expected to prioritize the evacuation of critical naval personnel so odds are you will have to give up your seat on a escape vessel to potential VIP personnel.
      4) Evacuation Actual: This is a real wildcard. Assuming you boarded an evacuation craft in all the mayhem aboard Infinity you better pray that a banshee flier or phantom doesn't spot your escape craft and blast it to hell as it takes off (As they were seen doing in the initial cut-scene).
      5) Evacuation Ringfall: Assuming your escape craft wasn't destroyed by banish space forces the moment it attempted to leave you will be presented with another wildcard of a situation. That situation being surviving the descent onto Zeta Halo. As stated in the audiologs banished banshee squadrons and AAA batteries where already deployed on the ring and where shooting down escape craft left and right. Note that UNSC air forces were spread thin so your dropping into hell with no cover and enemy guns aimed on your ass.
      6) Ringfall: After landing if by some miracle you survived the clusterfuck above you would need to endure the wave of banished forces marching on your position if you landed behind enemy lines, join the ongoing conflict between the UNSC and Banished forces if you landed in the thick of battle, or make your way to friendly forces if you landed in a combat free zone.
      7) Ringfall - Zeta Halo Fracture: Another wildcard and one that is more dependent on luck more than anything else, if you were to find yourself anywhere along the rings collateral zone that was destroyed following Cortana's little stunt on the silent auditorium, then run like hell otherwise you would be gobbled up in the ensuing destruction. Note that their was mention of sentinels attacking UNSC forces prior to the detonation.
      8) Battle for Zeta Halo: If you somehow survived all of that next you would have to contend with 81+ days of continuous fighting against an enemy with Space, Ground, and Air superiority. Then their is the fact that as a spartan you would be viewed as a high priority target for elimination by the Hand of Atriox and Blood Stars (Two organizations with personnel trained to kill spartans), also you would have to contend with hostile sentinel forces and special operations banished personnel.
      9) Endgame: If you are still alive past those initial 81+ days of continues fighting, you will have to contend with the with an additional 87+ days of combat. At this point UNSC forces have shrunk down to small pockets of scattered marines and spartans, it is also at this point where the hand of Atriox would be at its most dangerous as due to the severe lower quantities of spartans left alive on the ring, they are able to afford to dispatch more than one spartan killer to eliminate any given spartan. Your orders as per the Rubicon protocol is to stop or slow the banished by any means necessary and prohibit the Banished from fully weaponizing halo.
Tell me how you would survive? Answer the following questions?
Are you a part of a Spartan Fire team or not? (Remember that not all Spartan 3's and 4's operated within a fire team, many specialists usually conduct lone wolf operations)
What Gen 3 Mjolnir Kit would you have?
How would you tackle the banished invasion of Infinity? (Civilian and Naval personnel Evacuation, Engine room defense, Infinity bridge defense, Corridor Defense, Hanger bay Defense, or Counter boarding action operations)
How would you evacuate the Infinity? (Drop Pod, Life Boat, or Drop Ship)
What would you do if your evacuation craft landed behind enemy lines?
What would you do if your evacuation craft landed in the middle of a UNSC vs Banished skirmish?
What would you do if your evacuation craft landed in a combat free zone?
How would you escape the fracturing of zeta halo as a result of Cortana?
How would you choose to combat the banished during the initial 81+ days of fighting? (Attack infrastructure, Assassinate VIP Targets, Disrupt Supply Lines, Coordinate Ops with surviving UNSC command personnel, Raid banished convoy's, Conduct espionage, Attack critical banished ops sights). Note the following consequences for the following:
      1) Attack Infrastructure: These locations are well fortified and defended, even for a spartan they can prove challenging, they are also most likely to result learning of your whereabouts and sending spartan killers your way.
      2) Assassinate VIP Targets: VIP banished personnel are normally well defended by local escorts and bodyguards, they are also most likely to be skilled combatants in their own right and if killed could result in banished command marking you as a high value target for all banished forces in your area up to and including the Hand of Atriox.
      3) Disrupt Supply Lines: This can severely impact banished operations but might also result in more banished forces being deployed in your area of operation.
      4) Coordinate Ops with surviving UNSC command personnel: This can be a double edge sword as on one hand you would be able to conduct your ops with tactical and strategic support from other UNSC forces, but you would also lose your autonomy and could possibly be deployed on a mission that might deliver you into the hands of the banished.
      5) Raid Banished Convoy's: This can help you, your fire team, or UNSC command acquire and procure necessary supplies to fuel your operations on the ring. However this can also result in a potential ambushed by banished forces targeting spartans.
      6) Conduct Espionage: Conducting surveillance on enemy activity is a must in combat as it can aid in planning and coordination, however it can also result in being led into potentially premeditated enemy ambushes that could get you killed. (Ask Spartan Bonita Stone how that ended up? Oh, right- she was ambushed by Jega Rdomnai)
      7) Attack Critical Banished Ops Sights: This would have massive repercussions for the banished if successful but such objectives are usually well fortified and defended by senior and elite operations units.
How would you choose to combat the banished during the last 87+ days of fighting prior to the re-awakening of the Master Chief? Remember that at this point the vast majority of UNSC forces have been whittled down to a few scattered on uncoordinated units, the bulk of your fellow spartans that didn't die on infinity, on their way to the rings surfaces, have all but been killed in action with few exceptions. As a surviving spartan you represent a great threat to the Banished and vice versa as their forces would be free to hunt you down with minimal interference from a third party. Any sightings or suspicions of your presence anywhere on the ring by banished forces my result in a manhunt. Would you choose to regroup and reorganized remaining UNSC forces into a small resistance, continue disrupting supply lines, attacking infrastructure, conducting surveillance on the enemy, and killing VIP targets- remember you are not the Master Chief, you won't be toyed with, or watched from a distance for amusement and as such the banished have no qualms about turning you into a none-survivor.

The Spartan audio logs are really interesting to listen to, probably my favorite set of audio logs. It’s interesting hearing about the early fighting on Zeta halo, actually makes me even more sad now finding those spartans’ corpses :(
interesting though that we don’t get confirmations on the fates of horvath and vettel. given that griffin was still in the tower, we can assume vettel’s plan failed, but horvath is way more open ended, as it seems he’s going to a part of the ring with less banished presence. interesting…

      3) As an un-augmented human you also have low tolerances to extreme gravitational forces so entering the ring the way you propose may not be the best for you overall wellbeing, it doesn't help that ODST battle armor is considerably heavier than most standard infantry BDU.

That brings the total of possible surviving Spartan-IVs up to 9, the other 6 not listed above are Vettel, Kovan, Horvath, Oshiro, Dimka, and a Spartan only known as Intrepid One, who is apart of Horvath’s Fireteam, Fireteam Intrepid

I have about 3 scenarios of how this could go for me, technically a fourth if we want to be all idealist but it's highly unlikely.
The Spartan in Question: Spartan G-032, Oni Section 3 Special Operative, shock and awe/VIP asset removal assignments, most often solo. As with other Gamma's, needs smoothers every 15-24 hours to keep his sanity. Mirage Class/Gen 3 experimental mix tailored for hazardous environments and for going quiet
Scenario 1: G-032, stationed as security detail upon the Infinity, survives the initial ramming. He fights wave after wave of banished boarding forces, making his way towards the bridge to ensure the command staff survives. When the evacuation order is issued he stocks up on smoothers and keeps fighting off banished, helping as many personnel get off the ship as possible, but is unable to reach an escape route himself. The Infinity crashes down, and he is crushed in the rubble, knowing that at least others will fight on.
Time until the Master Chief is recused by Echo-216: 6 months
Scenario 2: As above, but G-032 manages to reach a Drop Pod. He goes into the Ring feet first, linking up with other UNSC forces and establishing an FOB. He survives the shattering of the ring by virtue of luck, being far away from the break when it occurs but he still has to fasten himself down to avoid being blown away by the shockwave.
The following days would be a mad dash across the ring gathering survivors, disrupting local supply chains and reinforcing their initial landing spot, where he is out of his element but like any Spartan he performs nonetheless. Resources are scarce, so Smoothers are being produced at just the right rate to keep him stable. When the Reverie is established he has a choice, but scenario 2 involves him staying close, fighting off local banished forces and setting up the base at the Reverie when the attack commences.
G-032 fights his damn hardest, but he is ultimately beaten, captured and taken to the House of Reckoning to fight for the Banished enjoyment. Deprived of his stabilizing drugs he fights for days with insane ferocity that surprises even the Brutes, but is ultimately slain.
Time until the Master Chief is rescued by Echo-216: Three Months.
Scenario 3: As Scenario 2, except G-032 returns to his roots. Operating away from the Reverie in assassination and disruption missions, he hears about it's destruction far to late. Still, he perseveres, scavenging supplies, linking up with UNSC forces every once in a while. His access to smoothers is critically low, teetering on the edge of mental break but pushing on. Eventually, he pushes a little to far, and the Banished pursuit of him becomes too hot. He manages to kill an unnamed Hand of Atriox warrior before ultimately having to retreat into Forerunner installations in the Ring before overwhelming reinforcements arrive. His body battered and burned, armor damaged, ammo low and only one smoother left, only his illegal pain numbing enhancements allow him to walk away from the fight. G-032's comms go offline as he enters the structure. Marked as MIA.
Time until the Master Chief is rescued by Echo-216: 4 days.
Scenario 4(Wishful thinking): G-032 survives long enough until news of Echarum's death at the hand of the Master Chief reach him. He joins with the UNSC forces and fights along Chief against whatever comes.
Yeah, so either dead or insane in a lost structure by the end if we want to be real about it.

Not going to lie, I personally think Griffin made the right choice sending in a single strike team. The Reverie being overrun was an eventuality. They didn't have the weaponry nor numbers to fight off the entirety of the Banished. Especially since Escherum had the Spartan killers whom we all learn are the most dangerous hunters in the universe and trained to be better. The only issue with the plan was that Escherum predicted the assassination. Whether through recon, invisible elites, or just him simply being a war chief. He had eyes everywhere on the ring. It was no longer an assassination. Just as the Spartans knew that killing Escherum would cause a power vacuum, so did Escherum. Their plan failed because they ran right into a trap because their plan was easily predicted.

The banished may have killed the spartan IV and III contingent on infinity during their campaign on Zeta Halo. But they also may have created the best and most experienced weapons against them? I am talking about UNSC Marine Corps personnel, If they survive to make it off halo I am sure that many among them would qualify induction into the Spartan IV program. I say that surviving a campaign such as that is more than enough of an accolade, not to mention the tenacity, tactical ingenuity, and leadership skills such a campaign may have fostered within some marines throughout those brutal days. Though it is still a loss of experienced class 1 - 6 Spartan IVs and many Spartan III'S.

Most likely killed off; special forces units would have been top priority for the banished, while a single spartan is deadly on their own; they are far and few in between. ODST, Marine Force Recon, and Asymmetrical Fighting Units while more numerous are no less deadly. Hell during the human covenant war - silent shadow and Brute stalker units like the blood stars were often sent to not only hunt down and kill spartans but also ODST's as they presented a big enough threat.

If there are other Spartan-III teams or Headhunters they could've been reassigned or deployed on other operations, perhaps Op: BREAKER TRIP (that Locke was also assigned) or Op: KICKSTAND, or perhaps something else that is yet to be written.

How would you evacuate the Infinity? (Drop Pod, Life Boat, or Drop Ship)

I would like to ask tha halo community in this thread. If you were a Spartan IV deployed to Zeta Halo at the time of these logs. How would you go about carrying out the Rubicon Protocol?
The protocol states that following the loss of a substantial number of military assets, all remaining UNSC Forces are to conduct hit and run tactics against banished forces to stop or slow down their operations by any means necessary.
Remember that as a spartan you pose the greatest threat to the banished, something they are aware of and have marked you and your spartan brethren as priority targets for elimination.
As a Spartan IV your greatest assets besides fellow UNSC servicemen and units are your Augmentations and Mjolnir Armor. From what is known in the lore your spartan IV augmentations provide you with the following benefits.
    1) Enhanced visual perception- You can see further and with greater clarity than a normal human.
    2) Night Vision capabilities
    3) Enhanced Hearing capabilities up to several feet
    4) Enhanced healing capabilities
    5) Faster and More efficient metabolism
    6) Limited level of immunity from most toxins
    7) Longer lifespan
    8) Enhanced cognitive capabilities and muscular memory.
    9) Reengineered Skeletal system (Bones tougher than steel)
    10) Enhanced strength and physicality greater than any none augmented soldier (Given that advance weight lifters can lift 2.45x - 2.50x their body weight, I wager your enhanced musculature can enable you to lift anywhere between 2.60x - 2.75x your body weight under normal conditions which is less than a Spartan 2 who can lift 3x their body weight and spartan 3 who would be capable of doing the same. Spartan 4 weight range is anywhere from 224 lbs - 281 lbs depending on gender; to contrast spartan 3's weight is anywhere from 235 lbs - 250 lbs depending on gender and spartan 2's weight is range is anywhere from 242 lbs - 371 lbs depending on gender)
    11) Modified Genes (You can say goodbye to genetically inherited ailments, allergies, and hello to stronger body tissues)
    12) Hormonal Alterations (Given the role hormones play in our bodies, your bodies self repairing abilities, maintenance, energy production, muscular/skeletal growth regulation, adrenaline production, and other hormonal responses to environmental stimuli would be retooled to serve you better in combat)
    13) Enhanced respiratory and circulatory enhancements (Your able to absorb more oxygen, process foreign gas mixtures such as methane and your heart can work harder and contract with greater force.
    14) You can maintain a running speed of 24.9 MPH or faster if pushing yourself.
    15) Your sleep requirements are a little under 3 hours.
The down side is that because of ONI's paranoia you have a data recorder that monitors your health and vitals implanted in your 4th and 5th lumbar region. You also have a cybernetic locator beacon implanted under your lower jaw.

In cut audio logs, Horvath tried to assassinate Escharum a day before Chief's awakening but he of course failed, but I don't think he's dead. Vettel on the other hand...

@@Kid-dv4ir nah because i know that means 343 is gonna replace chief with locke permanantly btw locke is ok in nightfall and the books ive read on it but in 5 he was so bland and the actor who did his mocap was busy with luke cage to voice him like in h2a intro so the recast really took me out of it

Let us be honest the vast majority of the flaws the community sees in Locke is that he is way to serious and doesn't display that much in the way of personality. Which is contrary to what the halo community wanted from Spartan IV's in spartan ops were they actually wanted them to be of the objective focus and serious lot; but hey, I can't really predict what a crazed bipolar community of halo fans truly want myself, so I am not going to bother.
