This is obviously UK Top 40. I've only heard of four or five of these songs, three of which were better known in the US performed by another artist: "Julie Do Ya Love Me" charted by Bobby Sherman, "Honey Honey", by ABBA, and "Isn't She Lovely" performed by Stevie Wonder. The Cufflinks' "When Julie Comes Around" was the only one of these 30 that charted in the US with the same performer.
Stevie Wonder's original of 'Isn't she Lovely' is far better known and more popular in the UK too. Motown wanted to edit it for single release but Stevie refused so it wasn't releases as a single. The fact that David Parton's version charted so high suggests that Stevie could have got to number 1 with it. His only solo UK number 1 was 'I just called to say I Love You' in 1984.
@@trickygoose2 Easily. Stevie could have boiled that down and had a banger easily, but he didn't. The radio stations here did it for him. Last week the full version got played on the radio here and after hearing it, it was pure hubris on Stevie's part not to make a more radio-friendly single.
I love being introduced to 'new' music, but I wish RUclipsrs would say more about the criteria. What is determining the number of plays, and what is a play exactly (Spotify, radio plays, RUclips views?)
I’ve only heard 2. Julie Julie Julie and Sherry. And the only reason I know Sherry is because there’s a snippet of it in the #1 record Stars On 45 from 1981.
I always get annoyed when video's that are from the USA don't say that they are from the USA. Equally, as this is about UK top 10 hits, it should say that in the title, please! As an old fogey I actually remember ALL of the 30 songs, although i'm sure that the snippet of Milk and Honey's track wasn't from the single, and a couple of others were either from CD re-recordings or such. Still a good and interesting video!!
On behalf of the rest of the World I deeply apologise for the existence of a video which is not based on USA culture. I will dedicate the rest of my life to making sure it never happens again.
There are a lot of videos on youtube claiming, for example 'Come on Eileen' was a one Hit Wonder because Dexy's only had one hit in the USA... so, get used to it now, no one country 'owns' RUclips
Jimmy james and rhe vegabonds 🙌
Not your normal everyday political song.
Interesting!

Better than anything today

Exactly
I think in this list it means Spotify plays.
Friends is great! I often play it
I remember about a half of these (1970 to 72 was a bit early though, as too young). Thought there would be more GG!
That might be why the GG tunes are no longer played...

Midnight Rider is a great track.

Probably a third of these are "comedy tunes" says it all
Except for White Plains the rest I never ever heard and don't won't to hear
Very misleading. None of these charted in America.
