    Back in the early 90's there was an Alligator that was called old man. This was the blackest and largest gator I have ever seen. We never could catch him out of the water though and I know, how can I say the largest? He would swim up to our boat and loved swamp crack ( marshmallows ). This allowed us to get close to him. He didn't have many teeth left that we could see and we believed that he was easily over 100yrs old. We put a yard stick in the water to try and get some measurements of his head and we were able to get close enough to find out. From his nose to his eyes was from 22 to 25 inches long. Now its said that using this measurement, every inch is a foot. We knew what we had was a record breaking gator. A couple problems we faced. This was private land and just like his alligator snapping turtle he showed us, he would not let us remove the gator. We offered the old man almost the world to let us bring him to live out his days in a zoo. He said no and that he was better off in the wild.. We never saw old man again. Now there is a video on RUclips of him. Jeff Corwins experience Louisiana has him showing off both the gator and the turtle. Such a beautiful animal. At the time I was only 15yrs old and didn't understand that the wild was better for these animals than captivity. Anyway I hope you all have a geeat day and evening

    A common miss conception is that you can identify an alligator by its phrase “See you later Alligator!” And a crocodile through “In a while, Crocodile!”
    This is untrue.
    “See you later, Alligator!” Is actually a Crocodiles catchphrase, farewelling its comrade, and “In a while, Crocodile!” Is the alligators response.

    The largest alligator found was in Louisiana and was 19' 2".
    Of note in this large American alligators are often prey on alligators. One about 15' in a ranch pond in Florida had a nice collection of cattle bones where he had been preying on cattle.
    I'm not saying that an alligator would win a fight against a croc..it comes down to sizes and location. An abnormally large male and an equal size croc it would be up for grabs.

    • @Heuwelman
      @Heuwelman 2 года назад +1

      That was the largest Alligator ever found with a weight of 2,200 pounds , but there isn't even a photo of that Alligator so it can't be verified. The biggest Alligator ever recorded is from Alabama weighing 1,011.5 pounds which makes the Louisiana Alligator unlikely to be true , While the average Saltwater Crocodile weighs 1,000 pounds and the largest recorded with 2,370 verified pounds, but you are right that it could go either way if you had the largest Alligator going against an average Crocodile

    Steve Irwin couldn't believe how strong gators were compared to similar-sized crocs when he and his crew worked to subdue them on one of his first visits to the states. It was featured on his very popular show Crocodile Hunter back in the late 90's. Took twice as many bodies to pin them and way more tape. Plus, they kept going/resisting and didn't tire. I think he or one of his crew even made a comment about them being "diesel powered" or some such and very unlike the crocs they were used to. I wouldn't predict a winner in a struggle between gator and croc of equal mass and seriously doubt the scenario of a death match between them would ever naturally occur anyway.

The point I'm trying to meet you is I am from New Orleans I have seen male alligators much larger than 11 ft and they can get even bigger if left alone. I've seen the 18 and a half footer just outside of manchac . In one more thing if they get a call for a nuisance Gator under 10 ft they get relocated but 10 ft and over they get shot on site so keep that in mind when you talk about the biggest because basically they don't have a chance to even get close to their full potential

    Not all will agree with this: Pound for pound the alligator has a distinct advantage over any of the other species. It's not bite pressure that counts it's the wider more muscular alligator jaw that is more robust and powerful. In a fight these animals swipe and slash at one another. When they lock jaws, the alligator (of same weight) can tear off the crocodile's jaw and that is the end of the fight. As to whether aggression counts, it does not matter and a big bull gator can more than hold it's own in a pond of similar size Nile crocodiles (there is film of that). In the 1800's they used to pit these against one another in small pens and the gator would more than often win by tearing up the local crocodile.

      The biggest salt water crocodile on record was the one shot by crocodile hunter Krystyna 'Krys' Pawlowski in 1957 on the banks of the McArthur River in northern Australia. That was reported to be 28' 3" (8.63m) long and weighed 2000 lbs. It distressed her that she had destroyed a unique and magnificent animal and as a result she dedicated her life to conservation after that. Steve Irwin used to say that the biggest crocodiles that he knew about were in that part of the world in the Normanton river. The Normanton crocs he called them.
