- Missing the intro. This one was action packed from start to finish. Possibly due to the constant threat of rain cutting the event short, which it did. There was a 2.5 hour rain delay just before halfway. NASCAR pulled the plug just before 1 am eastern time, completing 333 laps or roughly 500 of the 600 miles. Dale Earnhardt's 4 wide pass down the backstretch at 3:14:05 was one of the best moves I've seen in years. Classic Intimidator.

Steve Brynes looked so young, It's been almost a year since you passed. R.I.P
AdamGropper AG53 I love Mr Steve Byrnes
If NASCAR still had cars and racing like this the seats wouldn't be empty anymore.
rebelracing88 ; Telling the truth
If nascar pulled the bullshit they pulled this race the last minute curfew. Nobody knew about this curfew until they told the teams 15 minutes before and robbed everyone of the full race they guaranteed everyone by restarting the race after the rain delay instead of finishing it on Monday the more logical call. It was totally obvious the fix was in for Gordon here. Imagine the outrage if this happened today in nascar.
I see where you stand, & I'm on board with making NASCAR popular again, but there's such a change in taste from 20 years ago, & NASCAR didn't adequately adapt to them over the years.
And more drivers would be dead if they still ran these cars
@@jamesgentry13 Ha! You want to talk about a fix? Watch the 2001 July race at Daytona.
You don't see racing like this anymore
miss nascar on TBS
The greatest era of NASCAR
Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarret, the brothers Labonte, The Intimidator #3, Rusty Wallace, Sterling Marlin, Mark Martin, Jeff and Ward Burton
Senna The Great One ;Johnny Benson , Mike Wallace& Jeremy Mayfield & Ricky Rudd yeap good racing back then
Ward Burton lol...and wtf about Senna?
I don't know why. But every time I seen the Super 8 Motels sponsor logo on the back of Bill Elliott's car, it reminded me of when I use to play Nascar 98 on the PlayStation!
Same
Love that throwback scheme for #28. Tribute to Davey Allison
You mean Baby Allison. Whiner.
How cool is it that they involve the crew members in the rain delay! I wish they would involve those guys more on the broadcasts. Go talk to them and make them a part of the fan knowledge base
@BigBob8824 If i am correct, Nascar only reserved that 43rd position for a past champion's provisional at the time, so if a PC didn't use it, there were only 42 starters. In 1998 they changed it so that the entire field would be 43 cars and the PC provisional would be used if needed. Another interesting fact is at the Phoenix and Sonoma races, there would be 44 starters because Nascar would reserve a spot for one of the Winston West drivers b/c they shared the weekend with Cup
RIP #3
20 laps without a commercial! Lucky to get 8-10 these days.
DrivingBackward we still do
They have NASCAR side by side well fox does anyways takes away from enjoying the race.
Gotta pay the bills
thanks Dave
#24 King of the Kings
Amazing driver
Salutes from Brazil
I was at this race.. was a Rusty fan... heartbreaking he didnt win this one.. that Gordon passed him a few times in his career to win *sigh*
During the rain delay, did you record the Beverly Hillbillies episodes?
LOVE that throwback 28!
Ben Crouch ; Yeapp Stewart Hoss or Penske needs to bring that paint scheme back.
Thanks for uploading this race
That ticker on the upper left of the screen is killing me. Only one driver at time.
I think this was the first year with the new stands in turn 2. It's weird watching the race and not seeing them today.
"CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR"
I don't think it was. I remember I toted my 4 year old and a 12pk cooler for "The 1996 Winston" in from the dragstrip," no predestination bridge" back then. Entered the main gate past the tunnel, around turn 4&3. past the east paddock down to turn two to only have Dale & Terry get tangled up for the lead and Mikey Waltrip back into victory lane for the Woods..by the time I returned to my car I looked like Popeye!!! Toot toot 🤣🤣
1:06:00 the Mentee vs the Mentor!! Dale recognized the potential in Jeff Gordon and used it to mentor him and take advantage of the rivalry!! I respected the hell out of Jeff, being a Earnhardt fan because he had the same type of grit and determination even though he didn’t work for it like the likes of say Earnhardt did but he had the nads to jump in with the big boys that says a lot about his character!!
In my opinion it is honestly impossible not to love watching this. Everything about this is so wonderful.
Hold the phone! It's Mike Skinner
DrivingBackward who? that guy that looks like he's smelling a fart
Well he was good in that #31 Lowes Monte back then.Until Jimmie Johnson took over in 02 for Hendrick Motorsports
The Undisputed Champion Jimmie Johnson. No NBA team did a five peat in the modern era. No NFL team did a three peat. UConn came close with four All Breanna Steward. And WNBAs Houston Comets won four peat.
Final race for flagman Doyle Ford who had worked as an official for 38 years
insane how great the racing at charlotte was at point. its become a joke now
did you watch this years?
Easily one of the best 600s ever
at 1:50:14, Kyle Petty joins the nWo shitlist by killing the nWo race car
I was looking for that turn 2 grandstand and WOW what a massive crowd!
You mean the RV Parking lot?
Sickening what Nascar has turned into.
Nascar ruined Darlington aswell.
good times
What time did the coke 600 traditionally start at when the went to using the lights? I know its later now.
Jonathan Walker it's always been starting at 5 or 6
LOL a piece of paper or something else blown on Terry labonte's stock car .At 13:42 put it on slow motion.
is the race ending at 1:00am?
Joseph Bevacqua Charlotte Motor Speedway has a curfew. required by law they couldn't go further
Joseph Bevacqua ; Most Coco Cola 600 races do.
Back when nascar was good then brian france took an axe to it
Jeff Rogers lol i see you everywhere
Couldn't have said better myself
Back when nascar was good? You mean back when Hendrick and Chevy paid off nascar. The fix was in when the sudden "curfew" was announced that caught EVERYONE BY SUPRISE. Imagine the outrage if nascar pulled this bullshit today.
@@jamesgentry13 When NASCAR and the MSM bias was Earnhardt 24/7. Now the bias will be on Hallie Deagan and Natalie Decker thanks to Teen Vogue.
Because they didn't had the full season where they had 43 cars every race. It didn't start until 1998 & continue so on. However there was 42 cars in the New Hampshire race in 2001 & Jeff Gordon was a huge performer after winning the championship. But another Gordon (Robby) a guy we don't hear from anymore same with Steve Wallace. But Robby won the race & it was an upset compare to Jamie's in 2002 when he won Charlotte.
........ I said a lot of words...........
I know, announcers mispronounce all the time, i just thought this one to be humorous because anyone who watches racing knows how to say Knaus' name now
Odd To See Allen Bestwick, Steve Byrnes, Mike Hogewood and Penny in Polyester Shirts. Now A Days, The Pit Crew, (and Anyone Else That Crosses The Pit Wall) Wear SFI Foundation-Approved Suits, Footwear, Helmet, Gloves, and Fire-Resistant Underwear.
"Fireball" Roberts Was A Pitcher For The Zellwood Mud Hens, An American Legion Baseball Team, Where He Earned The Nickname, "Fireball" Because of His Fastball. Having Nothing To Do With His NickName, “Fireball Roberts” and His Fiery Crash on May 24, 1964, Resulting In His Death On July 2, 1964, Led To Improvements In Fire-Resistant Suits.
"Fireball" Roberts' Death, As Well As The Deaths Of Eddie Sachs And Dave MacDonald At The Indianapolis 500, Six Days After Roberts’ Crash, LED To An Increase In Research On Fire-retardant Uniforms. It Also LED To The Development Of The Firestone Racesafe Fuel Cell. Modern Race Cars Use A Foam-filled Fuel Cell To Prevent Fuel Spillage Of The Magnitude Of Roberts Car. Also, Fully Fire-Retardant Coveralls Would Be Phased In, Leading To Mandatory Nomex Racing Suits.
Anyone know the young woman -- redhead with a thick Southern accent -- doing interviews?
patty moise busch driver
you mean a chainsaw
@37:30 Chad NOSS? lol
3:14:05 best pass in nascar history
Earnhardt four wide!
They could have run 500 laps and Gordon still would have beat em down.
Back when Robby Gordon had talent.. these days he would go to the back
Eye Of The Cougar ; Well he hadn't race in NASCAR in 8 years now he sucked anyways.
@@malikdigger4544 He's always had talent. He didn't have equipment worth a crap in the final years of his NASCAR career. NASCAR results aren't the sole indicator of talent.
The bashem up bodine, never liked any of them.
This was back when it was still real
Omg I'm so glad Ken Squire doesn't do races anymore.
Ken Squire was one of the best
