Wouldn't this gunk up with dust in no time due to the focus on negative airflow? I dunno. That compromise just to have the look of a steel box seems barely worth it.
Is there any chance we could get a look at how this case performs with a 280mm CLC at the front of this case with the stock 120mms in the rear? Especially, if possible, compared to the S340 Elite?
do you review phantek? I'm interested in knowing what's a very good case for a pc (or really good), but I want it to last and if possible, not change it. I don't know about brands, it seems all of them are bad with ventilation AND noise isolation.
Even though there aren't any NZXT cases in their current lineup that I would consider buying, I respect them for sending their cases to Gamers Nexus to be put through the ringer.
For as much crap NZXT gets for the puck, I actually use, and like mine. My gaming headphones would otherwise be laying on some desk somewhere if not for the puck. Since nobody else will say it, I will. Thank you for the puck NZXT.
Oh no... the manufacturers are actually starting to take criticism seriously and improving! Soon there will be nothing to bash besides never before heard brands and unbranded rubbish.
What exactly are the improved features? NZXT eliminated I/O ports, an HDMI pass through port, cut the size of the TG panel, made airflow arguably worse, and stopped including their puck. And they discontinued the S340 Elite, which means it's no longer sold now. Why do people love this hotbox so much again?
I actually do prefer this look over the window covering the full side for some reason. That said, this case is just a boxy box so I don't know why I like it so much. Cleaner look?
I've preferred "boxy boxes" since I was maybe 14 or so, dreaming of one day saving enough to build my own PC. I've always hated the Alien-ware style cases, with all the odd angles, rounded edges, and general wasted space. I also don't like seeing an array of tacky LED fans glowing through the grill on the front of my systems. The S340 was probably the best choice I made on my current build. But I'm looking for an upgrade with even better cable management, more SSD mounts, and tempered glass side panels...
For mostly aesthetic reasons, I have loved the look of this case for my current build. Good to see a good review. Now I know what I'm in for when I get this. Still $70.00, but so works for me.
Oh, thanks very much, maybe if i'm not asking too much, could you mention if a 2.5 slot card can fit? (or measure the clearance left under a 2 slot card). Thank you so much, greetings from Italy!
@@squidanado2765 I've had just one other case since that one and I'll always have eyes for NZXT now. Lol I don't remember the exact numbers but I didn't ever have heat issues even during summer. I had the new rog ryujin so good noctua fans up front to help boost the convection.
@@squidanado2765 I bought the "smart" one and can say it's holding up damn well. Running 2 intake and 2 exhaust, GPU temps only hit about 70-75 on some hard gaming. Im not using any water cooling, so for air, it runs well. The smart part of the case works really well. I have not had any issues with configuring fan speed, and leds. When using the vertical GPU mount though, the temps rise by about 5-8 degrees. So yeah. Works.
Just noticed that there are NO Phanteks cases at all, is that a coincidence or is the team just not a fan? I have a p400s, and personally find it kinda hot regardless of how cool I keep my room, or mess with the fans my 1060 6g(single fan evga) is hot regardless if the taps are open, or it just has a light load. Keep up the great work, love the content!
Yeah i have the p400 and it had NO airflow like absolutely none, i got 30 degrees cooler gpu when i removed the front. So now i upgraded to a meshify c for superior airflow and clean looks
Arnoldo I saw the same results when I removed my front panel, I can’t find the mesh front to buy which is why it’s currently in the trunk of my car and I’m using a NZXT 510. I really liked the p400s which sucked.
At this point i have stopped counting the "front" of a basic case as the front at all. Even my case on my desk is turned 45 degrees to the right so i get full view. I want some cases where the "front" and "back" are designed for full airflow. I want a wind tunnel pc case.
Not much of a "wind tunnel" with all those useless plastic slots at the top aye? Here's a better example, the meshify c. Which I'm probably gonna have to go with at this rate.
beautiful. the s340 was my first "modern" PC case, and it just hit the spot. it was the perfect recipe at its time. small, cheap, 3 hdd spots, 2 ssd spots, space for an AIO in the front, no optical drives, hdd/psu basement and smart cable management. it was so easy to get a clean, good looking build in it, and airflow wasn't terrible. the only things that annoyed me about it were the shitty acrylic panel that scratched way too easily and the fact that it limited cpu cooler height to 160mm, meaning the best cooler you could fit in it was the bequiet dark rock pro 3 if you really squeezed it in against the window. 5mm more width and an nh-d15 would have been possible. i switched out to a thermaltake x31 cause of custom loop plans and insane airflow potential, but the 340 lives on as a htpc, and i still think it's a stroke of genius that everyone has been trying to copy for the past 5 years (and basically noone managed to reach until the meshify c hit...)
fad2raptor uh, yes. I crammed my dark rock in my s340 and it did its job there for 2 years, i think i know.the thing is nzxt specified 160mm, but the 162-ish dark rock pro 3 fits just barely, while touching the window, but not flexing it. I wouldn't trust that it fitx into the tempered glass s340 elite, but you can definitely cram a dark rock pro 3 Into a regular s340. But cryorig r1 or noctua nh-d15 are completely out of the question Edit: if your point is that the scythe is a better cooler than the dark rock: not if you factor in noise levels.
This case works so well for my setup. My i5 is not overclocked and temps are never an issue for the CPU, but my GTX 580 is damn BBQ. This case does well keeping it under control.
Is there any chance we could get a look at how this case performs with a 280mm CLC at the front of this case with the stock 120mms in the rear? Especially, if possible, compared to the S340 Elite?
Umair S I've been using the H500 for about a year and a half now with a 9900k and RTX 2080. I've got a 280mm aio on the front for the cpu and 120mm on the rear for the GPU. It's worked quite well so far, with no temp issues to speak of.
Have this case with 280 aio at the front, keeps OC 3950x and 2080ti plenty cool. I did upgrade from the stock case fans to the ML series from corsair 120mm back 140mm top
Would love to see you test some Phanteks cases. For my new build I grabbed the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Series and I am a big fan of it. Great video Steve thanks for sharing.
Judging by the video, I'd say keep it stock without top-filter if you want to have better overall temps; add a fan in top front if you don't care having a warmer gpu and prefer a cooler cpu
So in conclusion, if I bought this case (haven’t yet, but if it’s a good deal on Black Friday/cyber monday, then I might get it) what should be my fan config? I am planning on getting a Corsair h100i Pro and would have two fans left to install other than the cooler
Well, I just recently bought it and can say the airflow is worse than the S340. With my 340 and positive pressure, my gpu never went over 80c (I have an R9 390, so it runs hot anyway). But with the H500i, I frequently hit 85c under load. I had to set up a new fan curve that basically maxes the gpu fans when it reaches 70c, just to keep it from hitting 90. Maybe it would be better to go mostly exhaust like shown in the video, but I prefer less dust and less cleaning. For what it's worth, my 6600k still doesn't reach 60c under load... and that's just with a Hyper 212 Evo on it. So at least it's decent for cup cooling. Anyone with a gpu that runs cooler anyway shouldn't have an issue with just about any fan config.
Not sure how I feel right now. I'm very glad that NZXT managed to improve upon the S340 and even lowered the price point at the same time, but I'm also kinda disappointed that I spent more for both my S340 Elite cases. It almost feels like I paid more for less since I like the H500 more from what I can see in the video.
I've had mine for a year running a 3600 and a 2070 super. Dust is actually pretty much non existent in comparison to some of my other builds. Also I live in a carpeted room.
F Also, really liking your unbiased and great quality case reviews. Only thing I would add is standardized fan testing (i.e. test every case using not the stock fans but a standardised set of fans in multiple different configs), but I understand that the work involved in that is likely too much.
That's how you get accurate data. If you used different hardware, how would you know how a case works in terms of airflow, etc? Using the same hardware allows you to compare the CASES.
@@GamersNexus IF you put a 280mm radiator Fan for CPU in the front (which it says it supports) what is the best way to keep the GPU cool without water cooling.
Nice review, but why you didn't mention mounting the 240mm radiator in the front of the case ? That would be the setup I would be interested with. But then have no idea about cooling performances in general. You have an idea ? Thanks
My CPU with teh Kraken x62 remains cool, my MSI 1070 Ti on the other hand is going above 80 degrees with stock exhaust configuration and fron AIO intake. Since the gPU temps are so high the GPU is trying hard to dissapate the ehat and is in turn very loud while it should have been one of the less noisy GPU's out there. Sucks. Oh and the stock acse fans and Kraken fans are too loud for my taste too.
I might be missing something here. But how does negative pressure work if u have a liquid cooler radiator setup st the front of the case. Isn’t is better to have two fans with the radiator at the front as Intake and the top and back as exhaust.
@@BeCurieUs I live in India where fractal products are shockingly hard to get. But I still managed to get a Meshify C. Love it, will be building my new pc in that case soon. And other thing I realised after buying it that NZXT H500 wouldn't have fit on my desk. I guess I was lucky! 😉
Which is a stupid comparison since the s340 is a totally different budget and category... The R6 can be compared to the now oldie but excellent h440 (or h442 since some minor tweaks)
#AskGN : Hi Steve, when checking the heat dissipation using an AIO people always talk about Push, Pull and Push-Pull configuration. However, in a Push-Pull configuration, the testing is always performed with four same type of fans (4 identical Static pressure optimised etc...) which is ideal but in real world people like me sometimes end up with the stock Static pressure optimised fans and some extra flow optimised fans. What difference would it make if replace the pull fans with High flow fans(2 Static Pressure fans pushing and 2 high flow fans pulling)? Are the extra 2 Static pressure fans worth investing in? I really hope you reply :D
Hey, I'm Interested in this case. But I'm a bit concerned about the thermals by obvious reasons. If you have two front fans mounted and a total of two exhaust fans one in the the back and one in the top. Will this config make the GPU temps lower than stock? I'm either considering buying Fractal Design Meshify or this Case. I like the looks of this case a lot more. But I also want my components to be cold. What case should I buy?
the thing i hate what most case makers do is the colour of the frame around the tempered glass. why is it always black? why not just match it with the colour of the case? does my head in.
Building my first PC. Picked up the 500i (smart version) for 80 US dollars on sale in Newegg. I think the $10 is worth the rgb and smart device in my opinion.
for $70 best case is Cooler Master MB511 RGB, it's $80 on newegg tho but $70 in europe afaik, basically it's MB530P, just standard RGB instead of ARGB fans, no RGB on power button, only 1 side is glass and front got even more mesh, not just on sides of the front but full front part is mesh now, comes with 3 RGB fans for intake and 1 non-backlit fan for exaust, i wanted to get MB530P but it would look bad cuz i don't have modular PSU, got bequiet! Pure Power 11, it supports 360/280/240/140/120 rad's, only problem is you can't fit dual tower 140mm aircoolers like NH-D15 or Dark Rock Pro 4, gotta stick with something like MA620P at best if you are going aircooling route, i mean you can still get good temps, you can even put 3rd 120mm fan but def gonna be louder than with 140mm noctua/bequiet fans
Am I right in thinking that the cable bar can be shifted slightly to the right? I noticed there's room at the bottom where the bar meets the tempered glass and also a screw hole to the right, up top where it meets the roof of the case.
Wow. I'm almost sad I recently bought a Focus G now. The H500 is a really nice case and I'd probably have gotten it if I didn't just get a different case.
So I’m doing my build with this case with a macho b rev cpu cooler and it’s giant. I’m going to run the stock with no top filter like you recommend. But with my huge ass cooler, what kind of temps could I expect?
Great review. I am thinking about getting either this or the Kolink Bastion. Do you have any thoughts on the Bastion? It seems to be a clone of the H500, but I can't find any good reviews of it. Thanks!

21:47 - Nice to see the wall functioning as intended 👍
cant fractal just make a meshify c v2 with about 20-25mm more clearance for longer gpus and a type c connector please? its all i want :D
sceeZ er literally my thoughts when my meshify arrived. Had to trade in my x62 kraken for x52 so it actially fits.
Yup. My Vega 56 is 1mm too big and it hurts. I don't want to take the risk.
Thanks for this video, i have my H500i arriving tomorrow
Im actually surprised how well this performs, though I wonder about dust after a year or so.
Can imagine it’s quite good. Limited intakes for the dust, and every entry has a dust filter
Yeah still worst airflow case
I've had mine for a year running a 3600 and a 2070 super. Dust is actually pretty much non existent in comparison to some of my other builds.
Also I live in a carpeted room.

Also, really liking your unbiased and great quality case reviews. Only thing I would add is standardized fan testing (i.e. test every case using not the stock fans but a standardised set of fans in multiple different configs), but I understand that the work involved in that is likely too much.
why no phanteks case reviews?
Ditto :/ They're expensive but I'd still like to see some reviews to compare.
That build looks slick
7:28 "RIP In Peace"? xD
Is this the same as the 510 case on their builder website?
Do you use all the same hardware in your case reviews, the hardware looks the same inside the case as other case reviews
That's how you get accurate data. If you used different hardware, how would you know how a case works in terms of airflow, etc? Using the same hardware allows you to compare the CASES.
Of course! That's how you get standardized numbers.
@@GamersNexus IF you put a 280mm radiator Fan for CPU in the front (which it says it supports) what is the best way to keep the GPU cool without water cooling.
I have 5 fans in my h510 I put 2 in the front left the stock ones and put a fan in the perferatied holes by the PSU
Run it with a Dyson
Isn’t is better to have two fans with the radiator at the front as Intake and the top and back as exhaust.
yes the radiator at the front should be intake while the two fans in the back and the top will be exhaust
I was an owner of CM HAF X and added additional second cooler to the top. That case is a freezer. Yes it was ugly as tank, but cold.
Would still rather have the Meshify C, a case that has actual airflow.
I can understand that. I like it cause it has color options without being strictly back in the thermals department. Either are good :D
I think this will be my next case. I wanted a simple case for a black and white build.
Wow, its just another S340..
Im glad that i sold my S340 last week and got a define R6 with a custom loop :D
Coolermaster mastercase is also very nice. So is most silverstone cases.
Which is a stupid comparison since the s340 is a totally different budget and category... The R6 can be compared to the now oldie but excellent h440 (or h442 since some minor tweaks)
MasterControl90 Dont get me wrong i like the s340 but it was too small for me.
But this new case isnt a huge improvement i would say Meshify > H500
Would these results get even better if you up-size the 2 exhaust fans?
Does it cone with case fans? If yes, how many?
Hewad Shams mine came with 2. Both on the exhaust
Excellent content as always. Great new shelves and great new tool rack too. Just please, get a new table that does not wobble. It's driving me insane!
What it most recommend location for liquid cooling? Should I just get 120mm top or can I really fit 240mm?
Wouldn't liquid cooling perform better if installed in front of the chassis in general?
Good review, as usual. It would be nice to see test how NZXT H500 stacks up against the Phanteks P350X. Thanks.
phanteks p300 did it first
Exactly. Some reviewers dont know why say h500 is the first one to do this. I mean phanteks isn't an unknown brand!
Dood... the Thermal Grizzly add... What was that paste placement?! Channeling their inner Rorschach or Jackson Pollock. Jeez lol
Amazing review. Subbed.
the thing i hate what most case makers do is the colour of the frame around the tempered glass. why is it always black? why not just match it with the colour of the case? does my head in.
Carl Wheezer agreed
I have this case and I love it
Thanks. Helpful will stay with stock then!
"There is also a lot of garbage at $70" Lolz
Building my first PC. Picked up the 500i (smart version) for 80 US dollars on sale in Newegg. I think the $10 is worth the rgb and smart device in my opinion.
Mesh is still better. This is the most boxy box I've ever seen.
No... the cardboard box it comes in is the most boxy box you’ve ever seen
Let me guess, you have a Mesh.
I actually prefer this over the mesh, but to each their own.
for $70 best case is Cooler Master MB511 RGB, it's $80 on newegg tho but $70 in europe afaik, basically it's MB530P, just standard RGB instead of ARGB fans, no RGB on power button, only 1 side is glass and front got even more mesh, not just on sides of the front but full front part is mesh now, comes with 3 RGB fans for intake and 1 non-backlit fan for exaust, i wanted to get MB530P but it would look bad cuz i don't have modular PSU, got bequiet!
The tempered glass design is used in the Phanteks P300

rest in pepperonis
So stock is the best configuration? If not, are you gonna make a video about it?
F
RIP IN PIECE
(because the puck can split into two pieces? ...yeah I'll get my coat)
Mmm uh... 6/10 good effort tho
So is the investment of adding front intake worth it? I was just a little confused by the configuration.
nope, leave it stock config, 2 exhaust only is enough
Am I right in thinking that the cable bar can be shifted slightly to the right?
I noticed there's room at the bottom where the bar meets the tempered glass and also a screw hole to the right, up top where it meets the roof of the case.
Wow. I'm almost sad I recently bought a Focus G now. The H500 is a really nice case and I'd probably have gotten it if I didn't just get a different case.
F RIP IN PEACE!!!
So what is the best fan configuration?
lmao 7:25 'rip in peace', otherwise great review as usual
I see you use sprayaway brand glass cleaner. It's hands down the best out there. Love you new workshop look.
My microwave has better airflow.
Thanks for keeping it real!
Half of this has literally nothing to do with the h500
So I’m doing my build with this case with a macho b rev cpu cooler and it’s giant. I’m going to run the stock with no top filter like you recommend. But with my huge ass cooler, what kind of temps could I expect?
F
Great review. I am thinking about getting either this or the Kolink Bastion. Do you have any thoughts on the Bastion? It seems to be a clone of the H500, but I can't find any good reviews of it. Thanks!
