This is a seriously awesome way to build this wall. I'm building a garage and would like to try it. The big question is how do you keep it from blowing away once you stand it up? Even if you manage to get four walls up to make a box, that seems very vulnerable until it has some roof trusses attached. Maybe you're going to cover that in future videos.
This really is a question because our framing inspectors do climb ladders. We all love your videos and appreciate efficiency! Just looking for a reasonable argument to our finest building inspector as we all just love this dude.
Really good video you crack me up. Never ballooned framed a wall but it's way more efficient thanks Kyle cracks me up to didn't want to leave Kyle out KYLES THE BEST
if you had a wall with several large fixed windows (3-0x6-0) would you be worried about the glass cracking when you go to lift the wall? (besides that concern, I really like this method)
Great job. One comment about placing nails in the sheathing. Nails sticking into stud cavities make it more difficult for other trades. Best to avoid doing it, unless necessary.
is there any reason to think you'd have any trouble from the inspector for putting up the siding before they can do the framing inspection? I guess probably not because it's super normal to but tyvek up before framing the walls and that obscures just as much but I thought I'd see what you think about it Love your channel btw. Super valuable
There will always be “ tricks that can’t be shown” and those tricks are the ones that are only done maybe once a year and 3-4 guys know about them. These are the deep secrets 😝
When doing siding is there a rule where to locate outside lights and receptacles? I see you install a mounting block for each item. Is there a proper dimension? Thanks.
Aren't you supposed to prime or paint the cut ends of that LP 1x? Framer of 20 years legitimately asking. Considering LP smart for my own build coming up, but using 5/4 cedar for window trim. Refreshing to see other carpenters tilt-wall with windows, siding and all. Cheers.
yep, just side right up to it and tuck the last under the first one on this wall. Bottom nail it. Some people freak out but remember that all the trim and fascia is nailed and the nails are on the outside of the material. Its a non issue in real life.
Work efficiently? Why...when you can go wide open everyday, make repeated mistakes, and miss out on any possible injuries that could possibly lay you home and do anything.....lol Those old schools guys.....ha-ha Awesome job guys! It's great to have a small great team! Be safe!
How long is the average schedule build time for the shell of the house for the two of you? (Including the foundation). Also, what do you believe would be the optimum number of framers on site for a typical house build?
I can't answer the first part anymore. Things are so goofed up with supply chain issues and increasingly more management. If we didn't pull off a house like this, with a 3 person crew, I would say 4 weeks to frame and side. But that's everything going smoothly. A 4 person crew works best in my view.
Just wasn't worth rolling it out. We've been installing trim without pocket screws, corrugated fasteners or biscuits for decades. It doesn't make a difference with LP SmartSide. I like to preassemble when we have more than just the windows here, because it is normally inside work.
At 21m mark are you eyeballing the gap at the window orrr how do you have consistent spacing? It appears as though you first nail on the opposite end of the siding.
Yep just eyeball it. As the pieces get smaller, that gap is less important. Also because I order siding delivered with the wall framing, it is usually already at a higher moisture content. It comes out about 10%, which is crazy dry. We let it acclimate before installing in most cases.
probably, but that's just the designer putting together an elevation. Since we are the GC @pioneerbuildersinc we can make the call on the sides and back of the house to save some money.
good question. Our climate zone doesn't require it because the lap is actually ventilated side to side, plus the Zip meets the ASTM test for shedding water.
This might be a dumb question but have you ever had a window not slip in to the slot for whatever reason when setting? If so, what do, or would, you do in that scenario?
@@joshwalters348 so there's enough play given during framing so it shouldn't ever really happen basically? I appreciate your time, I've got a commercial contracting background and I'm trying to learn more about residential
@@KP-ol3tc yes on the plan the window size is called out, let's say 4o 4o that means the window opening is 4 feet wide by 4 feet tall. Hey Tim,
Love siding this way, just curious how/when you have a shear wall nailing inspection?
This specific county circles the walls they want to inspect and they nearly always have hold downs.
How long is the average schedule build time for the shell of the house for the two of you? (Including the foundation). Also, what do you believe would be the optimum number of framers on site for a typical house build?

We're at 5600 feet in the Black Hills. The sun is definitely more powerful here.
here in uk we cant do that, should be a service batten fixed vertically to allow air travel and water to escape otherwise will rot in the near future
Yeah, this won't rot in our climate zone. Since this is lap siding with corners over the top, we have airflow which promotes drying.
only thing I would do differently is put in battens so you have a bulk water drainage plane. I know a small thing.
We don't need to do that with lap siding in our climate zone because there is air flow behind the lap. Easy.
