A great tribute to everyone who made (continue to make) it a success. Also an outstanding demonstration of the value of captive breeding in species recovery.
A pet, or normal, ferret (Mustela putorius furo) is the domesticated form of the European Polecat, a mammal belonging to the weasel genus of the family Mustelidae. This domesticated line of ferrets is not native to North America, but originated in Europe. The black-footed ferret, or American Polecat (Mustela nigripes) is a completely different species and is a North American original.
The space they have is wonderful to see, while you help them. Not even minks in furr breeding places, has this much space or care. It's nice that people like you are there to help them, so they don't die out.
great picture of this video, i like those ferrets that have lighter voices and look young, theyre like teen-ferrets to me, because theyre not completely grown up.
preserve their main source of food, the prairie dog. populations of prairie dog get decimated by hunters and farmers who dont care for the species or it becomesa nuisance on the farm.
No attempt to make things natural for them in capitivity at all, these are living creatures that didn't ask to be removed and imprisoned. Waiting till the last 18 animals is way too late.

Awesome video you guys
Since this is a 4 year old video, I'm really curious... How is the BFF population doing now?
The last time one was spotted in the area they were released in was in 2014
What is the diffrence between a black-footed and a normal ferret? other then their fur color.
Cats are also induced ovulators.
Threw that hamster in that cage and that ferret snatched with a quickness. Guess he or she really wanted it...

because they were at such low numbers, do the current wild populations exhibit signs of genetic bottlenecking?
i did a paper on this topic they show some but much less than many other endangered animals like for example cheetahs
Interesting.
