  • Train lines were in chaos this morning as I tried to find my way to the small community of Hoshigaoka, out on the far eastern edge of Osaka Prefecture, Japan. After some waiting and an inspired change of plans, I eventually made it to Hoshigaoka, late but successful. I spent the day wandering the hilly, narrow streets of this quiet, little-known outpost. I encountered lots of odd uniquenesses that make the place special - even if I couldn't explain them. (A hotel built around animatronic dinosaurs, suspiciously large parking decks, bicycle growing out of the weeds, and a relative lack of other humans are just some of the things that stuck out.) A most enjoyable look at a charming place that I nearly failed to even reach.
