During a 1999 air show in Moscow, single MiG-31 on takeoff was LOUDER than an entire aerobatic team "Russian Knights" on Su-27s. I believe MiG-31 produces infra sound because it generates vibrations of internal organs of (distant) spectators.

      And you have just explained how our predecessors saw "Gods coming from the sky" and when they fired rockets then "Dragons were shooting fire and burning houses". Gods were of course just members of a more advanced civilization, but for primitive people they were gods. Just like American soldiers which landed on some Polynesian islands were "gods" who came inside of "shiny birds" from the sky. And since Americans shared their food and other stuff with the locals, they were worshiped. The tribes had special rituals, fires and dances at the end of the improvised landing strips, calling for the "silver birds" to come back and bring them food and funny stuff they never saw before. But the war was over and "shiny birds" never came back again.

    What’s the purpose of the repeated engine run ups prior to takeoff?
    Why didn’t they smoke and/or have that massive heat signature like it did when it finally revved up to take off?
    It was clearly smoky and hot before the afterburners lit up.

    • @JM64
      @JM64 2 года назад +4

      The initial spool-ups are just to get the engine warmed up and make sure they're working properly before takeoff, this is standard safety protocol for all aircraft. That's why you sit on the runway for a while before take-off while in a passenger plane (well that, and waiting for other planes to clear the airspace if necessary)
      The visible heat and exhaust from the engines is the engines starting to spool up and combust fuel to full capacity for take-off after initial checks and warm-up.
