    Hello JP, I have watched this video numerous times and sort of understand how you are programing the Loopy Pro. It would be a great help if you could put up a page showing each step that you go through to program the loopy pro to the mc8 to set up a loop. I get the mc8 set up but I am having lots of trouble with the actions and the set up of loopy pro. I just keep failing to make it work they way you showed on this video.. Thanks Les

    Thanks for this video! So clear and helpful!! After watching I ran out and bought one of these (well, the mc6) to go with loopy pro. I immediately started having the issues other people have reported, the mc6 randomely changing banks and other weird stuff.
    I solved this by looking at the midi dictionary on the morningstar editor, and avoiding all of those numbers! On the mc6 it's 1-21 and 51-52.
    So I just programmed starting at 60 and since then had no issues whatsoever with a regular usb cable. (Midi command 1 for example tells the midistar to change banks).

    Question - I set up the Rec / Dub for my mc6 pro like JP explained, when I press it, it works but then it jumps from bank 1 to bank 127 and stays there. Anybody know how to correct this?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  10 месяцев назад

      Yes. If you are using a boss pedal, then for some reason, it’s sending information from the boss pedal to the morningstar to change memories. Don’t know why this happens but unplug the midi out from the morningstar and this should stop.
      There is a PC change sending and happening and needs to be resolved.

  • @realSeanMcMahon
    @realSeanMcMahon Год назад +1

    Hm. I followed the instructions but not working - when I try to do midi learn with my M6, every time I push a button, it triggers a bank change (from 1 to 28, oddly). Not happening on the M6 on its own - only when I’m using Loopy. Using Yahama MDBT01 for Bluetooth midi via midimittr. Never had problems with this setup before though.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Год назад

      Yes. I have seen and had this issue.
      Disconnect the midi in connector from the MC6. It seems that loopy is sending midi signals to the morningstar to change banks when certain buttons are pressed. Don’t know why but it does.
      You’ll notice that around 10mins in then I do the recap the midi In connector is not on the morningstar. This is to solve this issue. It’s not an issue with the morningstar. It’s commands coming from Loopy Pro.
      Hope that helps.

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK thanks. It works on one color (orange) but the others have the same “split second record” problem. Oh and also overdubs don’t work consistently. It turns the wheel red as if “counting” in but once it gets to 12 o’clock, doesn’t record. Edit: yea it’s just still not working. It doesn’t even do a proper recording except for 1/10 tries or so, and overdubs don’t work.
      Edit 2: I’ve noticed a pattern.
      I set up orange track as in video. It works, although I notice I have to double tap my record/overdub button even though I didn’t program it that way.
      Once I set up and tracks beyond that, that’s when all of the channels exhibit the “split second record” behavior

      In loopy pro you can add follow actions to a loop so when it finishes it triggers another to start.
      Follow doesn't involve midi but exactly the same actions are available so it's very flexible.
      I think there may be a way to do this based on the groups/loop colour too but i have tried that out yet.
      The other option would be to set midi button to both stop one loop and start another. If they are both synced to the same cycle then they will each start and stop at the start of the next cycle after you click. Hope that helps!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

    This is a great video, thank you! I managed to configure MC-8 on iPad using Web midi browser and get track specific actions configured and working on Loopy Pro (like four tracks getting selected by respective buttons), but… I’m having difficulties getting my head around how to define like common actions for all selected tracks, one by one. I notice that I can start by selecting some track and go back to Actions -> Record -> push a MC-8 button - but for some reason it does not seem to work for all tracks. Again, if those actions for selected track are kind of common / not track specific, where can I find the list of those? If I go and define Record action again starting from track 1, after pushing the MC-8 button LP tells me that ’Also: 5 other actions’. Can you help me to understand how it is supposed to work - and where I can see the other actions for same MC-8 button mentioned? Thank you!

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK Thank you for this app tip, the app seems to work pretty well!
      And when it comes to my troubles, it looks like I’m able to sort them out, one by one. First, I had retrospective recording setting on -> removing that seems to clear out my recording issue. Again, I changed action behaviour to re-record, not overdub. Then, the Record action can be defined just once and used for any selected track -- very nice. Same goes for Start/Stop action, but I maybe needed to define Toggle behaviour on Morningstar settings as well. List of defined Loopy Pro actions can be found (and extra ones removed) from Control Settings -> Global Profiles.
      Lots of small details to be learned and fixed, it seems. But slowly moving to right directions, I guess. Thank you again for your helpful videos!

    Hi and thanks for a great tutorial. Since I'm new to the Morninstar I thought I'd do exactly the same setup as explained in the tutorial. I just can't get it to work. After a while the morningstar jumps from the bank I've created to another random empty bank. I could create the command "select track" but now after a while of trying to program commands it seems that nothing works. I saw a video on the subject so there seems to be more people with this issue. Am I missing something in the initial setup? I have the morningstar connected to my iPad via USB cable.

      Seems like it would work fine, for most ON/OFF type functions. Loopy definitely receives Program Change messages in MIDI Learn mode. Have you ever used a MIDI Message converter app? I've used mfxConvert for a long time, but there are other similar apps. Basically, they can take one type of MIDI message as an input, and output a completely different type of MIDI message. So for an example, an incoming Program Change message could be converted to a MIDI note, a pitchbend, some random MIDI continuous controller value, etc. An app like that could add some extra functionality to your Boss foot pedal, for controlling Loopy and other music apps.
