Excellent video, very informative, thanks man. I have the same airbrush and on the whole, it has been great. I have however recently experienced issues with paint flow. I've been quite clinical in cleaning and maintenance, trying different things to address the issue. I've replaced seals and needle but I'm starting to conclude that I may need a new nozzle; I'm not sure if it's ever so slightly damaged inside (abrasions), through over cleaning (?). Anyways, thanks again for your fantastic content and for being a top fella 🤘
Thanks for the comment - really appreciated! When you say that you've had issues with paint flow, what symptoms have you seen? Too little or too much? If you give me a detailed answer I might be able to troubleshoot things for you!
Cheers bud. It's an issue with paint flow. When the trigger is pulled I sometimes get either a.) no paint through the nozzle or b.) a modicum of paint and then it will suddenly come out at full flow and then reduce again. In an attempt to remedy, I have tried the following in various combinations; a) Retracting the trigger at various pulls from low to full pull back b) Feathering the trigger, both light and hard (in an attempt to clear any blockages that may be there c.) Adjusting the PSI from anywhere between 15 and 35 (I usually gun at c.18 (for ref, I use an Iwata sprint jet) d.) Probably most importantly, ensuring paint is suitable thinned to ensure flow through nozzle. e.) Extensive care and cleaning of the brush at all times. In my mind, I zeroed in on the nozzle (3.5mm), as it was here that my instinct suggested the problem could be (I could of course be wrong 😅). Ps. any thoughts/ advice would be much appreciated
Do a couple of things for me and then report back with answers. Firstly turn your compressor up to 30-35 psi and then: 1) Run just water through the brush and see if there's the same issue 2) Do the same with a wash 3) Take some regular GW paint - not metallic - and measure a mix of 1 part paint and 1 part flow improver (be accurate) and then try that.
@@MohawkMiniatures OK my man, I have tried each of the 3 as you kindly suggested and all good on 1 and 2. With 3, things are better than they were (I'm getting a more consistent paint flow). Assume the increase in PSI is helping this. What do PSI do you work with in the main? I'll be honest, I bit the bullet and ordered a new needle AND nozzle (If this doesn't resolve all issues, I don't know what will 😅). I will keep the old ones as spares / use the old needle as the nozzle cleaner. Thanks again for your help and advice 👍
I'm glad thats helped! The directions for use on the flow aid aren't what I use - equal parts still gives great coverage and also allows you to spend less time on cleaning the brush for clogs, and less money on paint too. I tend to use 45 psi for the airbrush - for everything, detail work or basecoats, it's all the same for me
