I hated it the first time i heard it, after the third i grew to tolerate it. Now I think it's the greatest honour to Scott. It introduced to me to her own works. Absolute unique voice. a true chanteuse! Thank you, Susanne.
Hear Hear!! This Tune is incredible hard to sing.. Its a Technical daring song. Its no wonder that so few Artist have dared to give it a shot.. all the more credit to Susanne!
This was my introduction to Susanne. She and John stole the show (or, slightly more churlishly, saved the show) on the evening in question. I couldn't imagine a version to surpass the original before hearing this and it quite took my breath away. I'm just so grateful that so much of her own music has the same.
I keep coming back to this, it's so good it almost hurts. Great arrangement, great playing from the orchestra and THAT performance from Susanne. Absolutely sublime.
So happy to hear he attended this evening. It meant he gave his early life one more „ Listen“ That he never permitted his later albums. Gosh, surviving success and what comes afterward. He remained true to his purpose, to bring life a voice of gold and instrumental backgrounds that cushion or propel……..
It's so hard to cover some artists like Scott Walker, because of his unique talent. Susanne did it with ease and respect and courage. It's like Lisa Hannigan covering Nick Drake or Jennie Abrahamson performing Kate Bush songs. You know the love and admiration is there, and an appreciation of how bad it will be if they fail. I personally think it's amazing!
a great voice does not always make a great singer but this gal has it all. a fabulous stylist who has a tone that pulls you in and embraces you. just listened to her sing Undercover and i was in tears
I found her after watching Oblivion (theme tune) - ruclips.net/video/05GPiKPylHY/видео.html Then heard her promoting 10 Love Songs on Dermot O'Leary R2. Fell in love with her voice, so when she sang at Green Man Festival, I had to go. I wasn't disappointed. She has a natural tone, an imperfect realism that is utterly compelling.
Sundfor has been my happiest music discovery in the past year ! She is simply faultless and holds a beautiful fragility and emotion in her voice. Stunning performance that she owns at one with the orchestra. AMAZING !
Make sure you get all of her albums, they're incredible, I personally prefer her debut album (actually listening to it as I type this) but they're all brilliant.
@@shaunpierce4174 Now you're talking! Roykskopp, Depeche Mode. Roykskopp and their collaborations are in my top ten groups in the past decade. Their works with Robyn have been my favourite. What else is there with Karin Dreijer Andersson is brilliant. Thanks for the tip on the Depeche Mode cover. I've listened to both your suggestions - brilliant. Thanks. I'd love to see a Sundfor/Flowers/Roykskopp collaboration ....
@Garrett Fitzgerald that's a little harsh and not actually true. Whilst Suzanne was clearly the owner of the best singing voice of the evening and was far more suited to this type of performance it isn't really fair to say that Jarvis Richard and John have no musical ability whatsoever just because this type of thing is quite different from what they normally do. Its a bit like saying that Mozart has no musical ability because his DJ set in Ibiza was piss-poor compared to Fatboy Slim's
Epic! This song is what made me go and buy tickets to her concert in Glasgow in October. She is such a gifted singer, power and pathos with skyscraper high notes - when she so chooses: what a talent.
Scott Walker is one of my greatest musical loves. I never thought someone could make his music better. You have absolutely put the man to shame. i think hed live this!
What a talent! And a great reminder of Scott's talent also - so nice to have such a tribute while the artist is still living, should happen more often for living legends - don't wait til they die.
A great version and kudos to the orchestra and arranger for doing justice to the original. They probably should have had Susanne and John Grant do all the songs. Richard Hawley did a nice guitar solo on Get Behind Me...
This music is normally not my cup of chaga tea, but...damn this is good. What a singer! Credit to the song and orchestral arrangement also. Grandios! When she hits the chorus...
When she turns on the power, it's spine-tingling. Reminds me of Abba at their best - probably because she has a Scandinavian lilt to her voice and it's got that big chorus that goes on and on.
This video had 666 likes ... we cannot have that on someone so beautiful!! I have all of her albums, but I liked the video to get it off that negative number LOL
be very careful, this wonderful lady's version of this killer tune is more addictive than crack cocaine :-) Listen once and you'll be listening all day.
Oh Susanne. What a performance. You nailed it girl. I bet Scott loved your interpretation of his song more than his own. Scandinavians do it best (I am of Danish decent) love your work. Xxxx
Susanne is amazing, especially live. Check out these songs from her: - The Silicone Veil (Live Skavlan 2012) - White Foxes - Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør - Ice Machine (Depeche Mode cover) Live on Lydverket - M83 & Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion - The Amorous Humphrey Plugg (live on BBC proms) - The Brothel (studio version or Liva At Parkteatret) - Undercover (live) - Mountaineers (featuring John Grant) - Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør - Never Ever - The Sound of War (Live at Spellemann)
Do you have any of the other performances from this concert? I thought John Grant was also a highlight but can't find his contributions anywhere on YT.
Scott's version isn't as good. I am saying this as an absolutely massive Scott Walker fan. This song was by far the highlight of that magical prom. While every song that night was performed beautifully, this is the only one that was better than the original IMO. I think the lyrics sound more powerful coming from a woman, so it was a stroke of genius to allocate this song to Susanne.
Nowhere. But it's possible to download this video as a sound file on your laptop, then transfer it to a normal phone. That may not include Apples proprietary pieces of xxxx. But I've done it to android phones.

Connelly's version is poor IMHO. This is an order of magnitude better. Not just because of orchestration, but maturity of artist and technical ability but expression and involvement. This passes the goosebump test.
Have formed a serious addiction to this clip.

Scott died today, he was at this show. Both he and his wonderful music is very much loved by many. The lights are starting to go out. A very sad day.
Her performance has made me realize that this song is a masterpiece.
Brilliant version of a Scott Walker classic, possibly my favourite Scott Walker.
I must have watched this about 50 times and I honestly think this is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. Sublime.

I cannot stop playing this. I am considering seeking professional help.
It must be a kind of great art. I keep returning to this soullifting place on the internet.

Enthralling - both Susanne's performance and the song.
Nice to see this group of people paying tribute to The Great Scott Walker. Like many of his songs, it is underrated.

Susanne for next Bond theme.........just sayin
Chris Tann makes total sense
That would never happen due to the politics of today’s music industry but fuck she would be perfect for It
Sadly she's not mainstream enough
This sounds like a song from a 1970s James Bond film.

Hello Mr. Big Shot
Say, you're looking smart
I've had a tiring day
I took the kids along to the park
You've become a stranger
Every night with the boys
Got a new suit
That old smile's come back
And I kiss the children good night
And I slip away on the newly waxed floor
I've become a giant
I fill every street
I dwarf the rooftops
I hunchback the moon
Stars dance at my feet
Leave it all behind me
Screaming kids on my knee
And the telly swallowing me
And the neighbor shouting next door
And the subway trembling the roller-skate floor
I seek the buildings blazing with moonlight
In Channing Way
Their very eyes seem to suck you in with their laughter
They seem to say
You're all right now
So stop a while behind our smile
In Channing Way
Oh to die of kisses
Ecstasies and charms
Pavements of poets will write that I died
In nine angel's arms
And they all were smiling
Still seductive as sin in their eyes
The man I had been
No more hard luck stories to wear
Nothing left to give
Why the hell should I care
Ann knows my smile and buries my shadow
In Channing Way
And with her cellophane sighs
Corrina the candle
Begs (Bades?) me to stay
You're all right now
So stop a while behind our smile
In Channing Way
