I enjoyed your summary of this beautiful film. I’ll be going to see it for the 3rd time on Monday. I’m now also interested in seeing “Lie With Me” so I’ll see whether that film is on anywhere in London too 😊
Another viewpoint is that Adam died at the beginning of the film. His ghost leaves the building when the fire alarm sounds and looks up to see Harry's ghost. If you notice, the lighting behind Harry flickers, like the neglected tv in Harry's room, that Adam finds, later on in the film. Harry's ghost yearns for a connection and randomly knocks on Adam's door. Adam politely rejects Harry. Many people think that Harry is alive, up until this point and then returns and drinks and takes drugs and overdoses, that night. Adam's parents (who are also ghosts) appear to guide Adam towards the afterlife, but once they are aware of Harry, they encourage Adam to make a go of it with him (maybe he can make Harry 'a bit happier'). Adam's parents say they have each other and they don't want Adam to be alone. Once Adam says goodbye to his parents, he goes directly to Harry's flat and makes a shocking discovery (Harry's unalive body). Adam then retreats to the living room, when he encounters Harry's, visibly upset ghost. After reassuring Harry that he's not alone 'in there', they both go back to Adam's room and to bed. Now that Adam has learnt how to love and be loved, he and Harry, disappear into the night sky, to become a star, together, forever. This film is stating that, it is never too late to learn and make a connection. Loneliness, doesn't have to last, forever.
I’ve only seen half the film, the middle to the end. It was sad & haunting. It was with me for days, couldn’t stop thinking about it. I’m hesitant to watch the whole thing. I did not know about Lie With Me or that it was translated from French by Molly Ringwald. Wow! I learned something new today. Thank you.
This is a very good, very thorough review, of a fantastically, haunting film.
The film is a masterpiece! Thank you for your insightful review.

I have not been able re-watch Close. It's been waiting for me since first viewing a couple of years ago.

I do hope that you will watch it from the beginning. I agree that it’s sad but also such a beautiful story at the same time 🤍
I agree. This film is definitely worth a second viewing. It's hauntingly beautiful.
