You noted there is no sign of the control tower. That's because there isn't going to be one! The plan is for a Remote Digital Control Center, also known as Digital Aerodrome Service, located in Eastern Creek, approx. 25 km from the airport. This concept is already in use in a few places in Europe, but WSI will be the first large international airport to adopt this new technology.
Me personally, would rather someone with eyes also on the airfield. Cant always trust technology and a safe guard with eyes on operations should be a must!
and build the M9. northern road around Narellan down to Ctown will be a carpark with all the trucks , peak now can turn this travel area from 8 min drive to 45 mins in peak.. its only going to get worse once airport is in. need that M9 asap.
thanks mate left Australia blue mountains in 2020 permanently to south America. wow a lot has been down maybe I should have sold the home the EX would be cheering $$$$ 1600 mtr block and beautiful home in Warrimoo
It is planned in 2031 to duplicate the whole thing on the other side of the metro line with second runway. It has plenty of room for expansion after that. it will take the load of Kingsford smith as it has no room for expansion. It will also run 24/7 which will be convenient. There is really no other option for Sydney but to build a second airport out west
10-12 million passengers per annum with scope to expand to 15 with a small western expansion I understand. It is a regional airport for western Sydney. Not NSW or Sydney Proper, a population of just over 2.5 million. Its the right size and expandable I bet. Masterplan shows up to 80ish million annual passenger capacity in like 20never
Thinking of St Mary`s station. St` Mary`s from the west has only one track up and one track down and shared by passenger and freight trains with freight trains known for braking down a far bit. This could inflict a problem with the new line boosting 10 minute services. It would be a shame to see airport travellers forced onto buses at St Marys to complete their travel into Sydney or where ever.
So many times as a commuter being stuck on the platform because trains are either delayed or cancelled due to a freight train breakdown west of St Mary`s station. @@user-tm4bi1nl4q
I believe the metro station is located outside the complex because the airport will be duplicated in 2031 the next terminal will be on the other side of the metro station the whole thing will be mirrored
Looking at the pathways connecting Train station to airport building looking like there wont be a travellator and just a roof and open sides , That part of Sydney can get some very nasty weather ,so with luggage it can be very concerning I think. @@BigJayDogAdventures
First connection will be the Metro from St Marys. The second will be an extension of the West Metro from Westmead (space already left at the site to do that). These will probably link to Glenfield, and through Oran Park and Narellan to Macartthur. Some people favour a connection using old fashioned trains extended from Leppington. I think it would be a backward step to keep building a 1920s rail system. Both metro stations on those lines would be centred between the eventual 3 to 5 terminal buildings, surrounding them on three sides.

Unfortunately observationdecks are fast becoming a thing of the past.. I'd love to be able to go up to an observation deck to plane spot. But it seems that realestate view to precious and in many cases have been converted into lounges for those that can afford it.
There won't be a station access fee, but the airport station will probably be just over 65km from the CBD by track distance, which will make the fare to the city $9.84 in peak hours or $6.88 off-peak (with current fares, which will likely be raised by the time the line opens).
No reason it should be any more expensive than now for a similar length journey (say Central to Penrith). It's also WESTERN Sydney Airport, so much of its passenger catchment will be from Western Sydney (which is already more populous, has more industry, and is growing faster than the rest of Sydney). It will be a lot more convenient if you live in Oran Park, or Camden, or Wetherill Park, or Parramatta, or Penrith, Blue Mountains, or the north western suburbs. If you live in the CBD, Northern suburbs or eastern Suburbs, it would make more sense to use the existing old Sydney airport. Some people may go to WSI from Harbourside Sydney, probably because it's modern design favours low cost flights better than Sydney Airport - if its significantly cheaper, people will be prepared to travel further to and from it.
So what did you expect from a functional Western Sydney air terminal? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The hanging gardens of Sydney One Central Park, Herds of hopping kangaroos majestically conveying people from the metros stations to the terminals? Feathered veterans of the Emu War conducting security checks?
Two runways. 05L/23R and 05R/23L - similar to London Heathrow's current layout (except they are aligned 09L/27R and 09R/27L. The second won't be needed for a few decades, especially since the high speed taxiways off the runway allows faster operations than at most existing airports.
WOW! This has certainly come a long way since your last video. Thanks again for creating and sharing :) DM.
Hola muy encantadores sus videos no me los pierdo a pesar de que estoy al otro lado de australia

I flew right over this last week and got my first real glimpse. It certainly is looking like an airport now! Keep up these great development vids..👍

Great stuff BJD. Good to see you back

Have to give it a test run as soon as it opens! Fly interstate. Lots of progress. Thanks for your updates.
It will be incredible
Thanks for the update. Keep them coming 👍

Awesome, makes sense with the technology of the day
As per the map on WSI website there is indicated ATC building to the west of the rail terminal.
@@philipg6463 safeguarded I presume...just in case the remote system doesn't work as well as hoped. It happens sometimes
I think that is probably an outdated map.@@philipg6463

Great update! Thanks mate.
Thanks Paul
No control tower will be built, it will be remote HD cameras sending a live feed to a control hub in Eastern Creek
Love your vids, keep up the good work!
Cheers
Top update. Nice soundtrack as well. It would be nice if they extend the southwest rail link to the new airport as well.

Great video as usual.
Thanks

We need a connection between St Mary’s and Schofield’s
There is a provision at the east end of St Mary’s station box to continue the tunnel to the north west line
Hey JayDog, when’s the next video coming?
Where is the rest of the terminal and gates. It’s tiny! Is this a small regional airport?

Love these updates. It looks like an airport now!✈
Too bad about the “aerotropolis” that is, a stupid pergola and a big hole in the ground
There won't be a Control Tower. Cameras to be used. Controllers will be at Eastern Creek.
Wow! This is one serious project.
A big employer of construction staff no doubt.
No wonder we cant get houses built!
Not quite. There will be a 45metre digital tower. With cameras. So yes there will be a tower. Just not the traditional kind.
Nice sounds like a good idea with today’s technology
control tower will be remote, not onsite, it will also double as a backup for sydney airport
Hi, which cities are the most developed near Sydney but not major cities?
Newcastle and Wollongong.
What happens if the digital cameras breaks down. Things do happen and there's no backup.

Better than music would be a running description
Am I wrong in thinking there will be no rail connection within the airport complex? If there isn’t one, construction should cease immediately.

Amazing as it seems no plans for continuing southwest rail line from Leppington at present! All they need is a few more stations to the airport.

For those plane spotters that are also viewing this, I don`t see any provision for an observation deck .

Observation decks cant exist in many countries due to regulations after 9/11
I'm guessing public transport fares will be very expensive from the CBD. I wonder this would impact young/budget tourists decision to visit Sydney.

beautiful land now covered in concrete...
Would you rather build the airport in the ocean sir ?
Plenty of room in the rest of Australia for paddocks... probably %80.
Noice.
So sad and so unnecessary. I feel for all those people whose peace and quiet will go.. Should be a very fast train hub there instead.
Such a boring, plain looking International Airport! Great footage tho.
