- The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) comes out with a yearly list of the most popular cat breeds based on worldwide breeder registrations. Now that we are in 2022, they recently released the 2021 list. Now, let’s find out the top 10 most popular cat breeds in the world.

I would like a Maine Coon but alas I'm not financially able to get one.
Surprised the Siamese Cat wasn't on the list. Best breed of all though is The Rescue. They come in all colours, shapes and sizes, are readily available and all they want is love, good food and good vet care. In return they'll love you back unconditionally.

@@vitoarchitetto5026 I had a Siamese when both my children were young. She never got jealous and would often be found close to them. She was also an incredibly intelligent cat and had a sweet and loving nature.
So true! My husband and I adopted the world's cutest (in my unbiased opinion as her mother 😁😁) 8 1/2 (just turned 9!) year old kitty and she is awesome! Adopt, don't shop, and seniors rock!
The best is the Domestic Shorthair & Long Hair Cats sitting in shelters needing to be adopted!!!
I don't get the major desire to get a "breed" cat or dogs for that matter. The amount of cats that are in desperate need to be adopted and breeds are basically all born from incest with those risks. My domestic shorthair is my favorite "breed" because I'm giving a cat a forever home and not put down.
I have two Ragdolls and love them like crazy. I was surpised that Siamese were not on the list.

@@susanscott3333 aah! They're not all super noisy! Mine hardly gives a good meow,but she mews,chirps,mows, trills,and purrs very loudly! I get more yowls and meows from my moggy cat than from my Siamese!
My baby boy is a Ragdoll. He went to college with his human sister, who was actually his owner. I miss him so much.
I love all cat's! But I have allergies to them. I lost my last cat right before Thanksgiving she was 16 1/2 years old I really miss her. Hopefully I'll be ready to rescue another cat soon. I love black cats and I heard Bombay cat's are good if you have allergies but I refuse to shop for a cat. So when I'm ready I will visit shelters in my area and ask about Bombay's maybe I'll get lucky if not I'll just sit down in a room full of cats and see which one picks me to be their human 😊 ... I had a bombay stray (escapee probably) called Frank Zappa, he was one of the best cats I ever had. They're the definition of a black cat!
My friends have a mixed breed cat who is almost 50% from 5 of these breeds (according to Basepaws).

Sphinx’s skin oil can get on your clothes vs my cats fur which is the softest in the world.
Note that all of the cats in the CFA's list are pure breds, unlike what the majority of pet cats are....just "cats" of mixed or unknown heritage (domestic shorthair?). Does any list include both?
Jeff Strauch no you're wrong CFA's is for pure breed cats not mixed breeds cats. What's why they call the Cat Fancy Association.
Great question! 🐈 As you noted, we focused on purebreds for this particular video. However, the CFA also accepts registrations for companion cats (non-pedigree domestic shorthair and longhair cats). If this category was added to the list, companion cats would have tied for Scottish Fold for 9th place. 🏆 As for non-registered cats, yes there are lists (but not from CFA) that include both. If this video does well we could use one for a future video. 😻
In reality I think the most common would be “alley”.
I love all breeds, but the ragdoll is superb! Surprisingly, the famous "Grumpy Cat" is a ragdoll, I understand.

My cat is 16% Russian Blue, 13% Ragdoll and 6% Maine Coon and is very long and tall but he's only 12 pounds. He does have the luxurious chest hair of a Maine Coon.

Yes they are cute. But it's a shame they are on this list as a sick breed of cats. All Cats with folded ears have a genetic desease that attacks their joints. That gene mutation not only deforms the cartilage in their ears but also in their whole body. That will cause pain and discomfort.
The Chantilly Tiffany should definitely be on the list. I used to have a solid black male and he was totally handsome!!! 😻

My first cat had the FD gene (single fold), and her overall look resembled the one of a Scottish Fold. However, being a moggy, she was also very vocal and short tempered. She lived almost 20 years.

I used to have with my family. We had adopted 3 American shorthair cats. 2 were both red tabbies and one tuxedo cat. The tuxedo one came from an abusive background before we adopted him. With my sister we had a Manx tuxedo cat and a cute American shorthair red tabby cat. We got them from a couple different pet stores when they were kittens.
The American shorthair is a purebred. Domestic shorthairs are basically mutts.
I was surprised about the Devon Rex!! I've never seen a cat with such large eyes before!!!

I can’t believe the Manx isn’t on this list. They are the absolute best. My Manx is hands down the best cat I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of cats.
The Bombay and/or Siamese crosses are *lovely!* Very sooky, floppy, gentle, kind, loving and affectionate creatures. ☺️🥰

I really would LOVE to have a sphynx!! I think they're so mysterious looking! Kind of like a real live gargoyle! I just love them! It's too bad they're so darned expensive!!! I only have what I call "mutt cats" now lol. Only rescues, most are black, who are obviously mixed with who knows what!!! But they are all beautiful to me!🐈⬛😻

My kitty that I got from a friend that was a rescue is a Mainecoon. He is 15lbs and from the tip of hos nose to the tip of his tail is about 24 inches long.
There is NO WAY scottish fold is number 9!!!

I was a little surprised the Turkish Angora and the Siamese weren’t on the list. I guess the horror that breeders have produced with the ugly and awkward-looking “new Siamese” explains why the traditional, beautiful Siamese (now called “Thai cat” by the silly, foolish CFA) fell off the list. And I guess the rarity and expense of the Angora explains why it’s not one of the top ten breeds.
The persian one reminds me of my purebred and half persian...both not really cuddly..wish i could say that now about my late purebred..

My orange Buccee baby boi is a Maine coon mix! Cat hardware with dog software. So sweet and playful, but idk about intelligent. He's not very bright, that child.
I thought the ragdoll would be on this list! Love my two ragdolls! Both different in coloring but both gorgeous and very dog like! They follow me everywhere and super smart! But you must know that your signing up for a significant amount of hair everywhere in your home no matter how much you groom them and clean your house. Don’t get one unless you plan to not mind so much hair and yes mine are on wet raw food and it does not help. I love them but I’m going for tabbies at rescue next time around.
I have a 2 yearold Ragdoll boy , Teddy ❤️! i've had him since he was 3 months old and i can only tell you i wanted a Ragdoll cat for the 2 years prior and do not regret it to this day .
He does have his typical naughty cat moments but overall he's the best thing that has happened to me :
Always coming when i call his name , always following me around the house , always obeying , and always down for a little cuddle session .

British shorthair is lovely, copper colored eyes really shine. Didn't do them justice here, never saw their faces and there were scottish fold kittens with them. Kinda confusing

I have two Siamese at this time, had two more previously, you cannot beat them for personality, looks and affection. I also received recently a darling Ragdoll kitten as a gift....... I love them all !
I have a rescue cat that washes her front paws in a large bowl of water. She does it about three or four times a day. She looks like a Main Coon. She looks like she could be mixed with a North American Bob CAT
I would recommend not buying a cat from one of these breeds, instead adopt a kitty in need. My 19 year old just passed away, she was a stray that just kind of showed up at my house, I have adopted another pair of kitties that were in a hoarding situation, they come home next week. These boys are the sweetest kitties you would ever meet, you might find that friend for life.

What is the difference between domestic shorthair and American shorthair? Just the USA part or something else?
I always thought the Turkish Angora (sp?) and the Balinese breed were gorgeous! Surprised the Scottish fold was on the list, I though the Siamese would be in that spot.
Good question! The Domestic Shorthair is technically not a breed. It's just a term used to describe a short-haired cat with mixed-ancestry. On the other hand, the American Shorthair is a specific breed with defined characteristics. American Shorthairs started off as Domestic Shorthairs, but they were bred into what we know today. 😺

That's what I have. Her coat is seal point and she has yellow/green eyes
She likes to play a lot
If I don't play she'll have a meow fit then sulk some where.
Her eye colour made her undesirable and the breeder couldn't sell her.
She told her son to get rid of it.
And he gave it to me (Dec. 2020)
she'll be 2yr old this April

She was a mess when I got her.
She lived in a dog kennel for nine months before I got her, her fur was all matted, she was so stinky from the poo in her fur
She was afraid of the dark, I had to put a night light out for her so she would stop crying at night
After about a week she crawling into my bed under the covers to sleep beside me.
Took her about a month to figure out she could jump onto thing instead of climbing.
She's still very timid of people
And she has a weird fascination with me underwear, she bring them to her bed, it's got to be a scent/comfort thing
@@veedellmuffin5501 yep , my little girl ( sadly passed) used to rub herself on any underwear of mine that she could find , usually on the floor when sorting laundry , or she would sit in my pants/ underwear when I was sitting on the toilet , never showed interest while on me thankfully . See loved me and she had a beautiful personality , I miss her a lot .

@@D_Parks Yes I contacted the Humane Society.
They confiscated a bunch dogs a few cats a cage full of budgies and they found a mass grave of partially burned animals in the far end of the yard.
I don't know if or how much they were changed with, but at least they don't have any animals in their care.

OMG!!! My then 11 year old did the research when she was getting a cat and I was today years old (Jan ‘23) to learn Ragdolls were #1! Yes, I love my baby boy, a Ragdoll, so much. He went to college with her, his human sister, who was actually his owner. I miss him so much.
Why didn't you say something about the fact that Scottish Fold cats have a genetic desease that can make their life horrible? That genetic desease comes with the folded ears. There is no healthy cats with folded ears!
Characteristics of a breed are no guarantee that the one choose will be like that both positive and negative as well how they are raised and the families they go into will bring out some characteristics and repress others. There are ways to encourage vocalization or discourage it depending on the cat.
sono tutti bellissimi.. amo il main coon.. perche e' cosi spettacolare e il gatto orientale che non avete fatto vedere..mi ricorda tanto l'antico egitto e lo trovo ,molto fascinoso come pure il gatto nordico..delle foreste.. stupendo..
ma alla fine adoro piu' di tutti i tanti gatti senza razza che si possono trovare ed adottare nei rifugi..e che tutti si meriterebbero una bella famiglia e tanto amore..

My family has had two American Shorthairs, both Tuxedos, plus a Black Tabby- Egyptian Mau mix.
