I have asthma and I reacted to dogs as a teenager I would always have a runny nose and uncontrolled asthma. During the pandemic I found a small kitten under my car. Because I had allergic reactions to dogs I had a lot of people telling me to not keep it. I longed for a pet and my one and only dog died in 1999 after which my parents never had any pets. I still took him in and later took his brother too. I share the same bed with them and beat covid and a severe asthma attack with them never leaving my side. They gave me courage and hope and I beat the delta variant. I surprisingly have no reaction to them. They are the domestic short hair who sleep on my pillow and snuggle with me. Even when I have an attack it is so much more easier for me to deal with it and the asthma is so much more controlled. Of course cat or no cat, I do have inhalers and nasal sprays to take every day. But having these angels around me is truly a blessing. In fact one of the wakes me up if I am having an attack when I am asleep.
I'm so glad that you are doing ok with cats. My husband is similar to you. I feed one feral and 2 strays. They want to come in so bad. I want all 3 but my husband is severely allergic to dogs and cats. I sneaked the cat in for a few hours a day for a week. My husband got really sick with asthma. Any advice? 2 of the cats have bonded with me. I really ♥️ them. He is especially allergic to domestic short hair cats 😥.
I also am allergic to dogs and cats. I suffer from mild asthma attacks. I had asthma as a child playing sports and the older I got, it went away. It started coming back with pet allergies and very mildly. So far dogs that are "hypoallergenic" have not affected me. I used to have a cat and my only work around was to make sure my cat never entered my room. This way I wouldnt have issue waking up gasping for air. One dog I ended dog sitting for a year, was a mini schnauzer and I had zero issues. The dog slept next to me and I never once had an asthma attack. Im wondering if I'll be okay with some of these cats mentioned on this list.
As a cat lover with a cat allergy, I find this very useful! I've also considered getting a Sphynx and/or a Siberian! Maybe someday I'll get one of these cats as a companion!
ask around in a shelter for a cat with a single coat. I don't have any cat allergies but I got one from a shelter by hapstance and my visitors with allergies all mention she doesn't trigger their allergies
I would go with the Siberian as a sister cat allergy sufferer. The first cat I ever reacted to was a Siamese and it was not a pleasant experience. I can’t be in near contact with 1 for more than 5-10 minutes.
I’m allergic to cats and I have a Siberian. She hasn’t made me so much as sniffle. I’ve had her for 13 years! You have to test it first. Most breeders have a way you can test. I don’t follow any of the cleaning tips either. Everything I own is covered in cat fur. Still no allergies.
I own a Balinese cat and am highly allergic to cats. As long as I take an allergy pill and nasal spray every day, I’m completely fine. Balinese cats are talkative, VERY playful/active, intelligent, an affectionate. They’re almost like dogs in the fact that it helps to have more than one person looking after them because they constantly crave human interaction!
Isn’t it bad to put chemicals everyday in your body nonstop ??? I’m very allergic too but to take pills & nasal spray nonstop everyday for the rest of my life would be insane ? Too much chemicals
When Zyrtec came out it mostly solved my severe allergy issues. We have a kitty…she’s actually hubby’s baby…but she can’t come up in the bed. I can pet her, but nit fir long periods or one my lap. I love cats and am happy to have her in the house. This is helpful information…she’s 20 now, so will save this.
I have a Balinese cat! I’m fairly allergic- if I walk into someone’s house who has cats I’ll immediately sneeze- and if I pet another cat I have to make sure to wash my hands. My Balinese cat I don’t react to! She sleeps near my face and I’m fine. I am still slightly allergic when she scratches me. I also feed her Purina Live clear- you’ll always technically be slightly allergic to your cat because no cat is free of that feld1 protein but as someone with a fairly severe cat allergy having a Balinese has been amazing!
@@elizabethmeyers1677 19 years is a really long time for a cat to live, you must be taking really good care of her, that's awesome. I'm sure that 🐈 loves you very much🙂. I had a Siamese named Spooky she lived 21 years! She was another family member for sure. Russian Blue cats are cool😺.
I hear Sibirische cat are good for allergic people. I breeding Devon Rex Cat's and only 30 % are good for allergic people. Any reactions with allergies of Devon Rex Cat s also by friends.

I wouldn't say I've had no issues but its deffo a LOT better! Thanks for the vid I hope to be able to keep this lil guy or get a dog/cat one day 🥲💕
My allergist told me that you can build up a tolerance to your own cat. That's been true for me. I just have to watch they don't put their nose on my neck during a snuggle. I'll get hives where I'm touched especially by their noses. I found my long haired cats to be less allergenic than short haired cats. Anyone else out there in You Tube Land have a similar experience?
Heh, I do not share your experience, unfortunately! I had longhaired cats when I was growing up - not pedigree, but they were Himalayan/Persian. And I was *horribly* allergic to them, for their entire long lives, and if anything it just got worse with time! 😿 I was already on a cocktail of prescription meds for my hayfever, which only really took the edge of the allergies at all, and I still really struggled with extended time outside in the summer, especially near especially pollen-y places. My cats also went outside and rolled around in grass and weeds and such and basically mopped up all the pollen with their long fur, then brought it back in to hit me with a double-pronged attack! 🤧 I loved them dearly, but I would have to do things like keep them out of my room so I had a “safe zone” to retreat to when the allergies kicked in and I needed to withdraw from the kitties for a while. They didn’t have the run of the whole house as they were indoor/outdoor, so to an extent there was some control over the spread of allergens (we lived in a fairly rural area and they would often come back soaking wet from the rain or caked in mud, so they could only come and go freely from the easily cleanable rooms! At least until we’d checked them out and made sure they weren’t bringing entire cowpats into the living room along with them, then they’d come into other rooms with our supervision 🤣). I would also put an old shirt or blanket over my clothes and lap when they came and sat on me so I could more easily remove the allergens from me afterwards (and/or change into different clean clothes after spending a lot of time with them), wash my hands when I’d been stroking them, etc. Even with all of that, it was still really tough dealing with the allergies (and also tough to tear myself away from them!), but there was no question we would ever get rid of them. I just suffered 😹 I feel like there’s a broad range of how severe someone’s allergy is, and mine was waaaay up there. I’m happy yours is nowhere near that bad, and that you can enjoy your furry friends so much 🥰 I’m definitely also allergic to shorthaired cats, though I’ve spent much less time around them than the cats I’ve lived with. Friends’ domestic shorthaired cats have triggered my allergies though, and also a partner’s parents’ Siamese cat - possibly the most severe cat allergy experience of my life, hitting hard and without much warning, compared to the slower build up to that kind of level with my longhaired cats - to the point where we nearly had to leave in the middle of the night and drive hours back home. I had to laugh with seeing Siamese in the list for being good for people with allergies! 🙅🏻♀️ However, I have found that I’m not* allergic to Ragdolls! This was a miraculous revelation to me 😻 My partner in 2015 rescued a half-Ragdoll cat (we don’t know what the other half is), and while I was worried at first, turns out that cat is made of magic - not a single sniffle, no itchy eyes, no coughing or wheezing, no skin rash or hives, etc. I can completely sink my face into his fur and spend time with him 24/7, with sustained testing over all the years since then, and I’m good. He also got two kittens a year or two ago, Ragdoll Maine Coon cross = also magic! 😻 My neighbours across the hall have two Ragdolls too, and I cat-sit for them whenever they’re away - also magic! Last but not least - a friend of mine who also has cat allergies has a purebred Maine Coon, and neither of us are allergic to him either :) There are some theories that light coloured cats are less allergenic than dark coloured cats, and my limited experience aligns with that (my cats growing up were one grey, one black; MagicCat #1 is mostly white with orange patches, MagicKitten #1 is a cream tabby boy and MagicKitten #2 is an orange tabby girl). The Siamese cat I mentioned was the exception though - all cream, still terrible! 😸 They also say female cats tend to produce less allergens than males too (my cats growing up were males, but so are two of the MagicCats, so 🤷🏻♀️), as well as kittens producing less than older cats. Seems like the theory why some people aren’t allergic to Ragdolls is due to their allergy being caused more by the cat’s undercoat and dander trapped inside it (because Ragdolls don’t have an undercoat, like the Balinese mentioned here), compared to being allergic to the fel d1 protein (and a handful of others) found in saliva (and subsequently spread all over their coat too). From the sounds of your hives caused by their noses, my guess is your allergy is to fel d1 or one of the other saliva proteins, and my experience seems to point at undercoat/dander (my childhood cats had incredibly dense undercoats that were individually very fine, always matting even despite a regular grooming routine, and always floating in the air! 🤧). I’m in the process of getting a cat of my own, because I 1000% need a feline friend of my own! I badly want a Maine Coon (or Maine Coon crossed with Ragdoll, especially as I’ve had good success with them… though it’s harder to find reputable breeders for the crossbreed who’ve done all the due diligence with screening for health conditions the breeds are susceptible to, etc), but I think I need to do a final test to confirm that I’m not allergic to adult pure Maine Coons, without that Ragdoll part of the genes reducing the undercoat of doom like in the MagicKittens! Going to look for a local breeder who’ll let me go and sniff their cats 😂 Gah I’m so sorry this got so long! I got carried away because this is very much top of mind for me at the moment!
@@EmmaVB82 , that’s very interesting because due to my nephew being highly allergic to cats we had to take in my sisters Maine Coon cat. And every time they would come over to visit he would have terrible allergic reactions. So after Mufasa(the cat) passed away I looked into what breeds were safer to be around for people suffering with allergies. I decided on getting a Siamese. Fortunately it has worked out for the best because every time they come to visit he has very little to no problem. I guess when it comes right down to it, it just depends on the individual.
@@EmmaVB82 It's funny because I'm VERY allergic to siamese cats too. For what it's worth, my long haired cats were pure bred Maine Coons, I got one in Canada and 1 in Ohio and a Birman that came from Philadelphia. There are reputable breeders out there ask around. MCs have such a wonderful personality and sound so cute with their chirps and trills. Birman cats do not have an undercoat and are extremely easy to care for, they have long fur but need almost no grooming. I'm all currently catless, I'm searching for a good breeder too. Another couple of cat breeds to consider are the Siberian and Norwegian Forest Cat. The Siberian is supposed to be very hypoallergenic. Interestingly both those breeds are related to the Maine Coon. Check out Birmans, I know they have their annual cat show in Medina, Ohio in the summer. They are so silky and beautiful. Their eyes are an astonishingly blue with a hint of purple near their pupils. Believe me I've suffered through miserable seasonal allergies that are really year round. I'm allergic to just about anything with fur. But I will not give up having cats. I just love them too much. Good luck in your hunt for cats. I'd suggest a cat show but that would be a disaster. Ask me how I know? 🙄
Second the Siberian cat recommendation. I’m allergic to cats and I’ve had a Siberian cat for 13 years. I’ve never had a reaction to her. I seem to be getting less allergic to other cats too. Just a few years ago I would have a reaction when visiting friends with cats. Now I don’t. They’re soft and fluffy too.
I have always been allergic to cats. But I do not care about it because I have a kitten right now. Just 1. He's a short hair guy who is very sweetheart. He is a great cat. I am not giving up on him. Period.
My cat doesn't eat grapes but.. she does like to play with them so she roams around with a grape in her mouth looking for someplace to hide it. I already knew her hiding place so I used to leave it there for her to play but after watching one of your videos I saw that cats shouldn't eat grapes or raisins and if they do it can lead to kidney failure so I got scared and stopped her from playing with grapes and if I did see it in her hiding place I pick it up. So thank you 😊 for the advice. Your channel is really helpful. P.S I know that this isn't the video I should be telling this but I wanted you to know so I looked for your most recent video and commented on it.
I looked at so many cats before I found one that I could tolerate. She's part British short hair and parts is parts Siberian. Anyway her coat is short but thick and keeps the dander close to her skin. We also brush every other day.. and because she freaking loves it. We bath 4x a year, or as needed. Like when she got under a car and came out painted in grease. I have had mixed experiences. I've had a cat run against my hand and gotten hives instantly. I've had my friends Cheetoh (real breed) do the same thing and no reaction. I will get a small reaction from litter paws. Now if I could only learn to clean regularly.
if anyone is interested heres the list written out, 1. siamese 2. balinese 3. oriental shorthair 4. javanese 5. russian blue 6. cornish rex 7. devon rex 8. selkirk rex 9. siberian 10. sphynx
My Kitty friend is a Bengal who has three layers of fur, with the black at 45ˆ. Her fur is coming back, after a long struggle that's finally improving. But I am unaccustomed to her saliva, until recently (no reaction, so far), and she has begun to shed the undercoat, I think. I will search your site for more info on my sweetie - thank you for sharing this interesting and useful information.
A tiny orange kitten came out of the woods next to my home and picked me to adopt. I am pretty allergic to cats, but he has no effect on me. He’s about a year old now, but over 16 lbs.My best guess is that he is totally or mostly siberian. I think people with allergies should definitely test their reaction to a siberian that is known to be hypoallergic.
@@livinglifeblessed1 From other cats, yes, and extreme itch in eyes, etc. This cat is zero allergies. He looks 100% Siberian at this point, but I am not paying for genetic testing. I have been trying to figure out how to get another hypoallergenic companion and found cat breeders that apparently only breed them that are allegedly "hypoallergenic", but who knows. I would suggest going to a breeder and asking to interact with an adult Siberian that they believe is hypoallergenic. I have been wanting to test this with my cat too, but am immunocompromised so it is difficult to get people in the house.
@@livinglifeblessed1I don't know if you get the messages in email. I made the mistake of mentioning I belong to a group targeted for mass censorship by Google in the reply post (our existence is not allowed apparently). Yes. Sneezing and very itchy eyes.
It actually depends on the amount of cat's allergens and how sensitive the person is. My boyfriend is highly allergic to cats and dogs. We had one Balinese and 3 Siberians. He could only lived with one Siberian. The cat is female, own cotton like fur and seems to produce very few fell D1. It has been 9 Months now and he never got any allergic reaction toward the cat. I only find it sad for the cat, that she must live without other cat's company.
I have two Balinese and am allergic, and they do not cause me any issues. I do not take medicine. I lock them out of my room at night - this seems to be the key as when i let them sleep with me after a few weeks i start to get allergies. As long as they stay out of my room at night i have no issues even when i brush and cuddle them! They are also more affordable than siberian because they are less known, they can be half the price even from ethical breeders that hand them over with registration papers, fixed, and vaccinated.
Thank you for this! I'm allergic to cats, dogs, anything with fur. (dander) I love my buddy, I take pills, nasal spray and eye drops, there's no stopping me from loving my buddy 🥰🐾🐾😻👍
You didn’t mention Ragdolls? I have had a Ragdoll and people highly allergic to cats could tolerate my cat very well. I always thought that was touted as one of the advantages of the breed?
Oh yes! Our kitty is half scottish fold and half persian, she is sooo cute. We give her some supplements for her joints, really looking forward to a video on the darling scots😻😻😻🥰🥰💓💓💓
certo se si ha interesse nell'adottare un gatto e si e' allergici e' importante scegliere almeno uno di queste razze dopo pero' avere fatto delle prove.. riportare indietro un animale che si era scelto e' una delle maggiori sofferenze..
All this is nice and dandy, but the real solution is to solve your allergies! For attaining this purpose, you need to adopt some important changes in your diet. First, avoid industrial foods; second, avoid starchy foods and sugar and foods rich in sugars. Adopt a more outdoors active life. Expose yourself to sunlight, and make full reserves in vitamin D3, and also A, and K2. Adopt more green veggies in your diet. My best of health wishes to you, and company of your beloved cat(s).
HOly hell! I didnt click the vid for information on WHAT ALLERGIES ARE and how to avoid them! Change the title to your VID or delete the first 8 minutes of it describing how to freaking clean. @Eatingeggs1 You didn't watch the video did you? The title is the topic in which the video is SUPPOSED to be about, this guy went on a whole DIFERENT tangent. It's like finding a video saying how to make a cheese cake with cream cheese...... then going into the whole HiSTORY of where cream cheese came from. Can't see why it's triggering, well I'm sorry I can't cure your stupid.
I’m with you. There are comments saying they’re glad they don’t have allergies for a reason… While I’m sure there are people who have their own tastes and will find these cats adorable, and ultimately the majority of owners are going to fall in love with their cat no matter what they look like, of course people want cute-looking pets!! Unless perhaps someone just wants a derpy looking pet for comedic relief. To each their own.

Period.
You sneeze like crazy?
Very good video, didn’t know some cat were better for allergies 🤧 but thank goodness I can have any type/breed with me !😍🥰😻😎🤗
if anyone is interested heres the list written out,
1. siamese
2. balinese
3. oriental shorthair
4. javanese
5. russian blue
6. cornish rex
7. devon rex
8. selkirk rex
9. siberian
Thanks for telling us this!
Russian blues to me r for sure the best soft grey my Russian blue I have had her 19 years one the best she talks to me like she's half human 🐺😻

You usually sneeze like crazy?
Bombay cats are another great hypoallergenic breed. ☺️👍
I'm allergic but I take one pill daily and everything is fine. I have 9 cats and 3 dogs.
Zyrtec changed my life…no more giant hives, asthma, etc. it’s amazing when you find something!
What medication do you take? I want to get a cat but get itchy
That's much love ❤
Thanks for giving me hope
I'm allergic to cat's, dog's and horse's. We got a Siberian and ZERO allergic reaction. Your mileage may very.
Thanks for the encouragement
Thank you for this! I'm allergic to cats, dogs, anything with fur. (dander) I love my buddy, I take pills, nasal spray and eye drops, there's no stopping me from loving my buddy 🥰🐾🐾😻👍
❤❤❤❤❤
Do you get the nonstop sneezing fits?
@@livinglifeblessed1 All the time. They make me dizzy sometimes lol
I got a Siberian. Then I got his brother. After 60 years of allergies it’s so fun to rub cheeks
Video starts at min 2:26
I love cats so much but I'm allergic to them but they're so adorable especially the Scottish fold they are adorable
You sneeze like crazy?
I would like to get a Russian blue, and a Sphinx cat :)
You didn’t mention Ragdolls? I have had a Ragdoll and people highly allergic to cats could tolerate my cat very well. I always thought that was touted as one of the advantages of the breed?
I have a Ragdoll too! And She gives me no problems!
I don't have allergy and i am a cat lover but i'm here lol
Siberian is super cute
9:54 ok mom stop MOM STOP AAAAHH
Hello! Can you make a video on facts about Scottish folds?
That sounds like a PAWsome idea! 🐈
Oh yes! Our kitty is half scottish fold and half persian, she is sooo cute. We give her some supplements for her joints, really looking forward to a video on the darling scots😻😻😻🥰🥰💓💓💓
Why isn't the Bengal cat on this list? Bengals are very low allergic.
He likely couldn’t fit it into the video.
My cat frequently sticks her tail in my face and walks on me to wake me when the chicken is baked. Is she a good allergy cat ?
certo se si ha interesse nell'adottare un gatto e si e' allergici e' importante scegliere almeno uno di queste razze dopo pero' avere fatto delle prove..
riportare indietro un animale che si era scelto e' una delle maggiori sofferenze..
Having short hair does not mean you shed less. My british shorthairs have short hair, and they shed boatloads.
For each breed in this video regarding producing less fell d1: This is down to singular individuals and is not heregenetic.
Siamese are the best hypoallergenic cats besides SPYNX cats who have absolutely no fur at all
If you’re allergic then try immunotherapy
I'm allergic to cats and have one, I just take allergy meds and I'm fine, I liked cats a bit too much to never have one
what meds do you take
Do you sneeze like crazy?
People who click on your video were interested in "The Best Cat Breeds for People With Allergies" for fuqs sake.
I dont understand as to why you are so triggered by this? He’s staying on topic with the title, and not just cramming in information.
This could have also been named The top 10 ugly cat list.
All cats are beautiful in their own way
Who cares what it looks like? I'm allergic, that's the only factor I really care about
No cat is ugly.
Ray Charles had one of each.
