We paid just $270 for a decent office laptop, except they are marketing it as a…. Gaming laptop? We’re trying to get to the bottom of eBay sellers that often mark iGPU laptops as “Gaming” and put Fortnite and even Battlefield in their pictures.

I bought a Dell Precision 7520 with i7-7820HQ and Nvidia Quadro M2200 for the $250 directly from Dell Refurbished website and been using that as my gaming laptop.
I got mine at the same site. I chose the Intel UHD 620 gpu and i5 8350

That's what's I was gonna say. I considered getting a older laptop with Thunderbolt 3 and building an eGPU for a travel gaming setup, but I decided to go SFFPC instead.
Interesting but to me it would be a pain in the arse hauling all that.

5:40 There are some very specific times when the very low end GPUS were similar to Intel integrated graphics.
From what I've heard the Intel hd 3000 found in sandy bridge CPUs is very similar to the gt520m that was in my old laptop.
Part of the reason is that the low end discrete graphics only had x4 PCIe lanes and no connection to the display, they still used the integrated graphics for their output. The picture was sent back over the PCIe. Also things like GDDR3 and 64 bit memory were terrible. They were better in terms of game support and features, but as for speed sometimes only 10 or 20% at the expense of twice or more the energy usage. I think the Nvidia was really more of a coprocessor for CAD or business simulation.
The Ivy Bridge integrated graphics on my X230 really surprised me, I could play GRiD at 768p at 42fps. Lenovo had support on the i7 model to run 1866 or 2133 DDR3, which I think was actually better than DDR4 as far as latency.
A Toshiba Tecra is actually a good office laptop, but yes you are right definitely not a gaming laptop.
If you got a kid who plays Roblox or indie games get it for them runs well I was stuck on it for a minute and it didn’t disappoint on those

Emulation, game streaming and older titles though for sure. Also can use as a general media "streaming box" hooked up to a TV. Not bad when there's mini PCs that sell for much more.
With office desktops being sold as "gaming" PCs the sellers at least tend to add some sort of gaming GPU. Selling laptops with integrated graphics as "gaming" laptops seems pretty shameless in comparison.
Also, Tecra was a model range Toshiba used to make.
I had this processor and in order to stop power limit throttle is to go into bios and turn off thermals settings and the processor won't get stuck at 800
Technically a PC/laptop with a GT 210 is also a gaming system. It can play games from early 2000's.
They didn't said it was a 2023-gaming-system. Or charge you for it, because those laptops cost over 1000$
still marketing it as a gaming laptop is extremely misleading... especially since it doesnt have any dedicated GPU... not even an Nvidia MX series card

gt210 is weaker then the intel hd 3,000 plus that laptop have intel uhd 620
I was able to get a Dell Latitude 3390 2-1 for $125. Yet to arrive as I ordered it last week but thats a steal of a deal. Ebay is the best place for used electronics hands down
I got a 3390 a while back for $160, it came with a 512 GB SSD & 32GB memory. Don't know why they upgraded it to 32GB since I can barely make it use 13 max but I'm not complaining.

@@brandiskrkic708 I mainly use it for the same. I bought gateway Ryzen 5 laptop before but it lagged terribly, only had 8GB of soldered memory. The 3390 doesn't skip a beat, just make sure it has 2 memory sticks. I have the Toshiba as well & the dell is definitely built better. The hinge is 100X tougher. Performance wise, they're the same. I don't see any real difference between the i7 & i5. The dell's screen is also brighter & glossy.
Those look like thunderbolt ports. Use a EGPU.
The slightly newer office computers have Iris integrated graphics which are about 5 times better then UHD graphics. My laptop from work has a i7-1185G7 with Iris Xe graphics and it can actually handle some simple games and a lot of emulation.
Not a bad deal for what you get. I just picked up a Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 i7-1260P for $400. Super fast even with the integrated IRIS XE graphics. Plays alot of games.

This along with my 11th gen i5 rtx 3080 build and galaxy s20. Good for doing light office tasks in brownout prone Philippines.
you can probably emulate on it. i have a Hp pavilion x 360 and i can cloud play Xbox one i can play steam games the only thing is a down side is the memory but a external hard drive could solve it. i also can use launchbox and emulate.
You can definitely emulate on this. Everything PS2/GameCube and under is fairly easy to emulate nowadays. Xbox is a little more hardware intensive, but you can play Smash Bro's upscaled with integrated graphics.
For $300 Last week I just got a dell xps 9570 16g ram 256g HD w/win11 pro and power source Came from Pratt Whitney aerospace. SUPER clean. Got it for video editing but YES it can game there are deals out there. You just have to do your research.
Also bios or regedit more ram space for igpu once you sand the chip and get it so 99% contact stamp the direct die

That laptop indeed isn't a gaming laptop however, it has upgradeable RAM, storage and on top of that it even has 2x Thunderbolt 3 for eGPU (like RTX 2060 or heck, RTX 2060 S and call it a day). CPU isn't that bad. I had a business laptop with that CPU and it was damn nice.
I really hope they notice its Thunderbolt 3. It would make for a very interesting video if they added an external GPU

Toshiba (Dynabook) Laptops are well know for Bussiness and durable laptops for years. I'm using my toshiba laptop since 2014. only the battery gone bad on 2020.but still working smoothly. I upgraded the RAM to 8GB AND add a SSD IN 2022.
Power system ram cooling on gpu selected ram chips believe me you will see darker plastic to level the. You tune the engine sand the chip with nail file around the edge of the shiner just grazing it like your nail then test it
If you are tweaking a low end laptop you need to pull out the bag of tricks. Bare minimum a 1" riser to let fresh air in. Try an undervolt with XTU or ThrottleStop; being TDP limited the undervolt gets you more boost speeds for longer.
If you are going really nuts dual *rank* low latency RAM can help.
If you are looking for a real budget gaming rig maybe a Lenovo P70 or P71. You can get these for around $200 because they need a 170w Power cord minimum to boot, people try them on the 90w power cord and think they are dead. And have upgradable MXM graphics (Quadro M3000/4000 P3000, but you will need a bigger heatsink from China) and a discrete direct to LCD setting in BIOS, this is very important.
Other bonuses are 4 ram slots, so you can load it up with 4x4gb of cheap ram
And power settings in windows help out a lot

For only £550 I just got a Ideapad Gaming 3 with Ryzen 5 6600H, 8GB DDR5 RAM (I added another 8GB for under £20) and a 3050Ti
I saw these on eBay and I cannot believe people buy these, they're being ripped off good and proper.
Tecra was one of Toshiba's laptop lines, like Lenovo Thinkpad and Dell Latitude. AFAIK the name is now part of the Dynabook brand.
For a cheap little college or couch-tv-watching laptop, that's a pretty solid deal. I'm actually very surprised it ran minecraft as well as it did.
And at the end of april they still selling this but the price is now $369.99.

Any working PC could run some games, it just depends from which year 😁 Current specimen would run games from PS2 era, and probably from PS3 era with reduced settings. Emulation of older consoles is also possible. For someone not having much money and having to go to college, this could be satisfactory.

This might be able to *emulate* games from the ps2 era, and play PS3 games very well.
@@S己G I was mostly thinking about PC games from PS2 era (2000-2006) , and PS3 era (2007-2013) . Emulation of PS2 on this could be rough , PS1 should work fine.
Here is a Valorant tip-ish: If you do have an old or an ok laptop, it would run lower fps in tdm but in regular game modes you will get more higher frames.

i got a dell latitude for like 240usd 20 ,000 inr without any problem no dents and stuff it had i 5 8365 u an 16 gigs ram i play valorant and gta5 so it was great for me i get 70 fps in valorant and 55 fps in gta 5 also i disabled the turbo boost and now it give me 4 -5 hrs netflix on 30 % brightness and it have a ips lcd
screen i thinks its worth it

Why don't you try web browser based fos games? Those might work. Like EV or MRN...or other... I'm saying might, I know I could play Mini Royale Nations on very old laptop with igpu, older than that one. I can't confirm it now, I don't have that laptop anymore 🤷♂️

"Tecra" is the model of Toshiba laptop. Business model, vs their consumer model, "Satellite". "Qosmio" is their gaming model line.
I did not know Toshiba - Dynabook ever had a gaming line.
I have had 3 satellites over the years though.

The decent integrated graphics card started at 11th gen intel and 6xxx gen ryzen.
I'd say Ryzen always had decent integrated graphics cards.
Vega has always served me well, and is still doing so (not talking about the hilariously unoptimized games of 2023, haven't got any of them yet).
If you manage your framerate expectations to 30 with drops to like 25 (May sound bad but I at least get used to it easily) you can run assassin's Creed Odyssey at medium to high settings 720p.
Depends on what games you play. This would be great for things like Quake (Mark V), Quake 2 (Yamagi), Starcraft 1.16.1, Diablo 2 1.14, some CoinOps build with arcades, Batocera / Ludo Libretro with FBNeo games, 8-bit and 16-bit emulation etc. We must accept... a wider view of gaming.
Basically all the games from PS2 era, and even some from PS3 era with reduced settings.
I was able to play MW3 and Black Ops 1 with an i3-5010U with Intel HD 5500 graphics
If one includes old games, then every PC is technically a "gaming" PC and the distinction becomes kind of pointless. But it's true that one can play lots of great games on regular laptops.

@@Max_Mustermann 99% true, but unfortunately some PCs (Chromebooks for example) "lock" your OS, so you would have difficulty running older titles that require Windows compatibility or Dosbox. Although, thee are some games for them too.
maybe & strong maybe if they want to drop the gaming tag but in features list something like " cloud gaming possible " still scummy but atleast its a little more honest lol.

I don't see reason to get this laptop as in my country still have many stock laptop with Ryzen cheap prices like Lenovo V14 G2 Ryzen 3 5300U better GPU then most cheap "gaming" laptop only cost $250 totally new 2 years warranty

"Gaming" in the name helps to sell it easier. I sold an old lga 775 based Celeron and 2GB ram based pc with 50$ just because it had led fans that would catch the eye. You can easily sell a worthless system with a little bit of eye candy and "gaming" in the name

processor is fine for light gaming and office work but there are much better GPU options even in the same price range of the gt 1030 such as the RX 580

10100f and Chinese "580" would play all games from PS4 era without problem.
GT1030? I would recommend a RX6400/GTX 1650 or 1050Ti at least, moreso the RX6400 cos it's more power efficient. yes, it costs double, but imo it's worth the extra cash. the GT1030 is a glorified display output, and is only suited for productivity, not gaming (if you're not gaming it's fine).
If gaming works, then it's a gaming laptop simple. Don't buy expensive PCs. There are also many old games and indie games also. So, your old PC is also a gaming laptop. Even DOS PC runs NFS 1 and NFS 2 and NFS 2 SE and also NFS 3. Save your cash and electricity bill for the betterment of the planet.
