    There are two guitarists who, for me, don't seem to play guitar as much as strap on the instrument as a conduit for something to come through them. Edward and Stevie Ray. There was something happening when these guys played, especially live, and they both knew it and were humble about it. The pure joy in Eddie's playing is something no other player has ever had. At times he even seems surprised and as awed as the audience is at what comes out. We were so damn lucky.

    He was one of a kind like Jimi. They are the best in different Eras. Every now and then the Heavens open up a deliver these types of Players. They were here for a reason and that is the Power of Music...and of coarse to show us a new way to play GUITAR...RIP it was awesome having you Guys in my Youth.

    He was really blasted here.......but still managed to play great. It became a different story down the road. Eddie's legend can never be questioned, but even so the booze & drugs cost him a lotta good years after Hagar left. That stretch between '98 and '08 especially just ruined him.

      Serious addiction will do that to a person. He was sadly introduced to it all by his "also functioning alcoholic" father at the age of 12, to help reduce his anxiety & stage fears. Ed's shyness & serious anxiety is rarely spoken about, which is a tragedy in itself. It's what kept him drinking long past when it was time to hang it up, then the physical addiction took over in those last 8 yrs & sadly, took him to very dark places. Also rarely spoken about is the fact that he finally conquered his demons, got sober & stayed sober for the last 12 years of his life. I see his sobriety as one of his greatest achievements. His magic is painfully missed. Gone way, way, way too soon. Absolutely heartbreaking.

      In the 80s, he could get hammered and still play amazingly. It didn’t catch up with him until 2004. But he rebounded in 2007 and went out on a high note.

    • @tyryztoll
      @tyryztoll 2 года назад

      @@JohnDoe-gk7ok You don't know what the hell you're talking about. He was already shriveling away when they fired Hagar in '96 and the crappy VH3 in '98 was the product of him completely going off the rails. He allowed that idiot Ray Daniels to mismanage his band by hiring Cherone and totally changed his guitar tone. He was a basket case all the way from '96 until about 2010 or so. Remember, they had to cancel 2007 tour dates to try and get him clean also.

    As a guitar player myself, we all try to reach the point to where we want our heart and soul to flow through us onto the guitar. We never reach it. Eddie lived it every night. Just amazing. He was just built different.

    It’s crazy that many don’t understand how great Eddie was at playing piano. He was incredible, with very deep Classical influence mixed with his bluesy pop sensibility. Eddie had such a knack for writing great songs. He changed the way rock guitar was played, but his great songwriting took him to another level that very few have achieved. R.I.P. Eddie 🙏 You will forever be missed.

    Why do some of these (insert your own word here) pay money to see a concert and in my humble opinion the greatest guitar player ever, and talk and carry on and seemingly not pay attention. I can't wrap my head around that.

    The first half of this video defined Eddie Van Halen versus the rest - just riffing and having fun. He went from one of his solos to classical to blues to shredding through Eruption in a matter of minutes and made it all sound like it was meant to be together. This is one of the few times I’ve ever seen him go “off script” and it was pretty awesome. Yes, many people can “play” parts of Eddie’s music, but nobody was able to follow him because they didn’t know where he was going next.
