Thank you for the video! I was able to fix my water sensor. Solar was not turning on, after watching this video, I tracked the water sensor cable, and noticed, the white wire was broken. I cut it, and spliced it. Everything works great!
Looks east enough. Recently purchased a new home. Water temp way off. Followed the sensor line which was cut. Minimal cost for sensor and with this video I should be able to with this great instructional video. Thx
You do not need to drain the plumbing before changing the sensor. Typically as long as the pump is off during installation, the water pressure should be low enough to complete your installation with ease.
I had my doubts about this. It worked wonderfully though. Our pool without it the temperature was un-swimmable. It raised the water temp a good 10 degrees. (We also used a solar cover)
Hi! The TS5L Sensor and the 520272 Sensor are different parts, and are NOT interchangeable. They are configured for different uses and for use with different systems, so they will not be able to be used in place of one another. The TS5L sensor is a linear temperature sensor for use with Compool Systems, while the 520272 is a temperature sensor used with Pentair IntelliTouch, EasyTouch, SunTouch, Etc. systems. If you are not able to find the part number on the existing sensor itself, we recommend finding your replacement based on the system it is being used with. If you have any further questions please let us know!
If the sensor has come loose from the plumbing, you can try to reinstall the sensor and tighten down the pipe clamp accordingly. I would also note the condition of the O-Ring on the sensor probe, if the O-Ring is bad you may be able to replace it instead of the entire sensor. If neither of these fixes your problem, you may have to replace the sensor entirely as you suggested.
Hi Rosario, unfortunately heaters can be tricky to diagnose without being directly in front of the unit. At this point we would recommend contacting Pentair directly (800-831-7133) when you are in front of the heater, or having a professional come and help diagnose the problem. Hope this helps!
I have a Pentair LX220. I have it in the auto setting. Temp set at 85deg. The actuator valve will stay closed.( No water going to my solar panels) In the on setting the actuator valve stays open. (Water circulates through solar panels). It's my understanding that the actuator valve should open and let water in to the panels then close. Then once the water reaches temp the valve opens releasing water back to the pool. Then repeats the cycle. My water is staying cold. Any ideas would help.
When the water is below the set temperature to engage your solar system, your valves will stay open, allowing water to flow into the solar system and back into the pool. This water is not held in the solar system for any extended period of time (except when the system is shut off, then the water that is in the lines will remain in place). If your water is not hot enough, increase your desired temperature setting on your solar system control panel.
@@mikeburruel8270 That is strange, unfortunately without being in front of the system it is difficult to troubleshoot this situation. I would recommend calling the manufacturer directly at 800-831-7133, they may be able to help you further.
If my Pentair Temperature Sensor is bad, would that effect my solar? It's warm and sunny and my solar isn't not kicking on - except when I first turn on the pump. It runs for 1 minute and kicks off.
+Linda Robison You know the temperature sensor is bad if it is reading drastically different than the actual water temperature and is causing the system to shut down due to extremely high or low temperatures. In order to further assist you, we would need to know the following details: 1. What kind of controller do you have? Is the solar heater a completely separate system, or does it work along with a Pentair control system (a Pentair EasyTouch, SunTouch, Etc.)? 2. What is the desired temperature setting placed at, and is the water currently at that temperature? If the water is already at the desired temperature then the solar heater will no longer need to be running and will shut off.
Hi PoolGuySupply -- Yes, the solar works along with a Pentair control system EasyTouch,. The desired solar temp is set to 98 but the pool water temp is registering 77 ...... and it feels like 77!! If I turn the pump off and turn it back on - the solar kicks on for about a minute and then shuts off even though there is TONS of sunshine and warm weather. I did a diagnostic check for the water and solar temp. The solar temp reads 255 degrees!!!! And the water was reading 77 - same as the little thermometer floating in the pool. I am assuming at this point that it is the temp sensor that is malfunctioning......
+Linda Robison Yes at this point we would also assume that your Solar temperature sensor has gone bad, and needs to be replaced. We offer a replacement for this temperature sensor, which you can find here: www.poolguysupply.com/PENTAIR-TEMPERATURE-SENSOR-%28520272%29-REPLACEMENT-WATERAIRSOLAR If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at any time!
Thank you so much PoolGuySupply! We will be sure to order from in future. Your info and video was very helpful. You were much faster and more helpful than the guy we bought the solar from. :-)
Thanks PoolGuySupply. We replaced the sensor as directed in your video and still the same thing happens. Pool kicks on, solar kicks on. The solar temp reads about 107. Then within a few minutes the solar temp either changes to 7 degrees or 255 degrees and the solar kicks off. Don't know what to do?
This would not be an issue dealing with the Pentair Temperature Sensor, unfortunately there are many reasons that this could be taking place. I would recommend contacting Pentair Tech support at 800-831-7133 or having a qualified service technician come and assess the situation. I apologize we cannot help you further, if there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.
Hello, The issue that you are describing is not a byproduct of a bad Pentair Temperature sensor. In this case the issue lies in the knob itself. In order to fix this you typically have 2 options: - Have a professional come to look at the circuit board. Often times they are able to make adjustments to the back end of the PCB in order to fix this issue. - Replace the Main PCB on your heater. You can find the Pentair MiniMax Main PCB replacements here: www.poolguysupply.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=minimax+board&x=0&y=0 If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.
Replaced the sensor as instructed. The control panel NOW WORKS. But the heater itself says "WATER THERM SHORT" to which the pentair webpage says: Replace water thermistor.. I just did that?
Thank you so much!! This worked great. Your video was so straightforward and helped so much. My pool is again working perfectly. 👍🏼
Thanks for the video! Huge help and I was able to do it all myself. Took about 15 minutes.

this might be a dumb question but do i need to drain that pipe before i change the temp sensor

Does anyone know how this sensor is different than the TS5L sensor by Pentair? We are looking to replace our solar heating sensor.

Your heater itself will also have it's own internal temperature sensor. depending on the type of heater, this can also be very easy to replace.
Where do I get the air temp sensor? Model Number?
The air sensor is the same part as the water sensor, it just dangles in the air instead of being installed in the plumbing
