My sister is in GA paying 2k a month, not including utilities. Me on the other hand I'm living in an apartment in Michigan for $800 a month including heat and water in an excellent area. Housing is ridiculous these days
Thanks for taking us along. Girl those prices😮. I can’t imagine what more square footage will cost. I’m trusting God will guide to the place that will fit your needs❤
I live in Chicago Edgewater (further north) I am a 7 minute walk to Kathy Osterman beach, under a five minute walk to the red line. My gym is about a 4 minute walk from my home and a 3 minute walk to the beach from there. I have a Junior one bedroom top floor apt/condo ( 3rd floor is the top floor lol ) , a semi private deck porch area (I have the corner apartment so my area is away from my adjacent neighbor)t. No amenities, laundry room is below. Heat and hot water are included. I was paying 925 a month in 2022 when I first moved here from NY. My rent is now 1,025/mth. My electric and gas is 78 a month combined. It about 600sqft ( might be a more but not over 675) its an odd shaped apt with big rooms. Full bath room with bathtub sink and toilet. I have tons of clothing, one big giant deep closet and my bedroom holds a full size bed, an armoire plus a long Chester dresser and a night stand with 3 not deep clothing draws. and there's storage under my bed. I also keep a max step climber in my bedroom. I have a living room with two big windows can hold a reg size couch but i moved here with a two seat love seat/pullout bed. there's a rocker glider chair an ottoman , two end tables with a tv stand that holds my 42 inch tv well with additional table space, a small bookcase, a cat perch and a console table against one of its walls .I have a large foyer bigger than my living room actually (which is weird lol) that area is where my work desk is along with a entrance console table and a chair and a short book shelf. Kitchen holds a Bakers rack , a movable island against the wall and a storage shelf near back door area. Big fridge ,large stove with storage cupboards above them and below the sink. I work from home so this is good enough for me. I'm about an hour away from River walk. And I Love seeing the trees and the bunny wabbits! lol Thanks for sharing what I haven't looked at in Chicago since I move here. I was aware of places like these just never actually went to see any since I was avoiding certain areas. (did not want to be in a city like atmosphere more greenery and chirping birds lol to each it own :-) ) I must say however, you are getting like a HOUSE compare to what NY is offering. apartments like those would go for minimum 5500. Probably even more. Best wishes on your search!
Think how much you really need amenities. If you can do without, look at buildings outside popular neighborhoods for more space at a lower price. Also, do you really need a car? Parking, insurance, gas...are high in the city and you can apply that to rent instead. I rent a 800SF live/work loft in Rogers Park with in-unit W/D, central heat/air, hardwood floors, 15' beamed ceiling, huge windows, top appliances and more for only $1175/mo. incl. water/trash plus $75 for gas/electric. No amenities, parking or doorman but I love it!
I enjoyed this so much I was sitting there like I know her number 1 non negotiable is closet space because all those clothes behind you!!! I can’t wait to see which apartment you choose I really liked the tours you went on girl I didn’t know parking was so expensive in Chicago I know you are going to find something great have a blessed weekend 💕💕
Ikr ❤ I live in New York City for a few years with roommates! I would love to move back to New York City, but I do not want roommates! Chicago is just like New York except Chicago is cleaner and more spacious and more affordable ❤
Wow Paige. So excited for you. I agree you should get a building with a doorman. In case you work late it's safer to have that added security. Visualize and you will find your perfect place. Brava!
Nice video. Well done Paige. Kinda hard to go wrong with any of those options. BTW the rental prices are much more reasonable in Chicago compared to other regions of the country.
Paige so happy for you! I found your videos when you moved back home. As I too, moved back home around the same time. I’ve since moved to LA. So excited for you!
My fav was apartment 3. But all 3 places were very decent And it’s so interesting how much more value there is in apartments in Chicago than overpriced London
I rent from a private condo owner. This is the second time I’ve done this. Unfortunately, the first owner sold the condo in the middle of the lockdown and it was a truly trying time for me. I had to live with family for awhile. So that is one thing to consider, them wanting to sell. Though I was a little apprehensive about doing it again? I knew I didn’t want to live in a luxury high rise. Been there, done that. And it’s not my vibe. When I was in my 20s yes, it was great. Now I like living in a four unit building. I know my neighbors, but we mind our own business. I’m close to work, the airport, Marta, freeway and DTATL. Someone else mentioned this and I agree trying to go for a 2 bedroom if you can. That’s what I did. I have my bedroom and the other room is my Fit Studio and I use it for extra clothes.
Hi, Paige. 😊 I REALLY liked the loft and I think that a duplex loft would definitely fit your needs. Unfortunately, we live in times where the cost of things ends up being the deciding factor. Best of luck on your journey! You will come across an apartment that will be too good to pass up.
TFS! Do you think you will have to move further out to get a less expensive price since it’s so close to downtown ? I guess then though it might make more of a longer commute. It will work out 😊
So lovely to have met you in Target a few weeks ago! I am so happy you viewed the imprint. I’ve been interested in there but whew, not with all that cost. South loop is one of my favorite neighborhoods and it’s a hit or miss sometimes. Definitely check out Coveal and 1401 s wabash. I’ve been told to look at those places as well
I hope you find something amazing ❤ I know you will eventually want to own. But, in the meantime, go ahead a spoil yourself if you can afford to for a year or two. Normally, I’m super practical. You work so hard. You deserve to enjoy a lovely space with the privacy. You definitely deserve a shorter commute.
I wonder if you moved further north would it be worth it? maybe in a high rise in uptown, edgewater, or even rogers park? Or even somewhere like wickerpark or something like that? I toured some nice places even on the lakefront that had a lot of these amenities. They were a bit cheaper as well. I know you wanted to be 30 minutes from door to door but the train isn't that bad. The red line is fast. The bus is good going north too (no craziness) if you can get a seat when it's rush hour thats a bonus ❤
oh and I always like edgewater bc you can take bus 147 and get up there kinda quick and directly from that area but depending on where your place is its a bit of a walk but if you stay off say sheridan it's not too bad! ❤❤❤
Im sure you have already, but have you tried looking into 2 bedroom apartments? If space is what you need, the second bedroom can go as storage. Obviously more expensive, but a 1 bedroom probably won't go bigger than 750-800 sq ft and if you're looking for more space, that may need to be the route
I just absolutely love the apartments tours! I know that for the first time you will be living alone but honestly i think you will love it of course you could get a cat or a dog and as lovely as I think animals are you will have to cope with dog or cats hairs.which i guess people don't see as a issue! Anyway Paige thank you for sharing this video. wishing you nothing but positivity peace and love ♥️
My daughter works and is finishing her last year of a BFA in the Loop. She's only 23 and was looking for an apartment with a couple friends to save money. They ended up having to go all the way up to the Lakeview area north of Lincoln Park to find a place they could afford (1 yr lease). She commutes @45min to get to school and work:( I know your life is in a different place than when you lived in London, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the differences in apt hunting/renting between the two. Just a thought..could you leave your car at your parents and then just commute there to get it when you need it and save money on garaging? I lived in Streeterville for a year or so (in the late 90's!). Was single, no kids and it was SO fun to live right in the city..but was still expensive then! Good luck if you are still looking!
Thanks so much for sharing!! It’s definitely very expensive out here right now but glad your daughter found something. Thanks for the video idea as well!! I’m still deciding on plans for my car. 😊
I’m in the same boat as you, I met with the complex I want to move to and for that reason I’ll push my moving date back because rates typically fall in the fall and winter months so I can get a god deal.
Try looking along the train route. You might find something cheaper. I know you might not want to walk to the train everyday but you might get more bang for your buck further out. Even if it's just 4 stops away. It's better than nothing and you're just looking.
Have you looked at Bronzeville or south shore? Pilsen is also up and coming and not too far from downtown. Nowwww some of areas are a little sketchy lol, but they do have space over there. And you’ll definitely get more bang for your buck. I’ve also been looking around and these 600sq ft apartments are not it lol.
So, you're basically paying for amenities that you are probably never going to use, like the demonstration kitchen. I love the high rise feel, but I want the older apartment space and free parking. Maybe look for something on the end of downtown to where the train commute won't be as long. Can't wait to see what you pick.
I don’t care where you are, rent should not be that high!!! I live in eastern NC. I pay $1400/mth for a 2bed/2bth 1100 sq ft apartment. I will not complain!
They look great. I agree i didn't love the glaze on the window but tat littoe bit of added privacy could be useful. The parking spot prices are what shock me
everytime i think about moving back to the states and then i watch an apartment tour video and the prices are astonishing. i'll stay in africa just a bit longer lol
Wishes to get the right apartment right square foot a bit lower price, good amenities and close to things you need and easy travel to work. Bright Blessings
I've lived in apartment for over 20 year's can't afford to buy yet apartments are very expensive the closer you are to downtown areas with all the shopes, restaurants entertainment the more expensive the apartment I've learned I've traveled for work alot lived in many states and you can't really find a good apartment in a safe area for under $1700 a month and that price is like southern states you go to California, Chicago, New York, Washington etc you're looking at $2,000 minimum up to $3,000 a month or more it's so expensive out here good luck you'll find the perfect apartment for you thise parking fees is outrageous thats downtown living though 😊
Hello Paige and Mother Delaney. Its good to see yall. I like the apartment that offers the 6 mo. lease. I believe this will help even more define what you're really looking for without locking you into a lengthy lease. It will give you time to explore more areas and get use to the noise, hustle and bustle, Chicago winter and expense of city living. $2,000 a month is a lot. (Mortgage). 3 John 2. Txs. for sharing.
Paige, I would personally use this opportunity to stay a little longer at your parents and save up to purchase your own apartment, rather than spend $2K+ per month on rent and bills. That is a lot of money that you will never see again, and that could go towards a place that would truly be your own, and that you could build equity in. (When you first moved back home I thought this was the plan when you said you were saving up to get your own place, but it's your call, of course!)
I really appreciate the advice but I promise I’ve thought through everything that I’m doing (for over a year now) & I have a plan. I will probably explain in a future video. 😊
living w parents and saving is great if u have that option, but theres an opportunity cost. paige is so young and vibrant, she can't get the money back on rent, but she cant get back the time and experiences she's missing out on spending time in the suburbs rather than in the city - pros and cons to everything
@paigemariah I know a place across from Inprint in Printers Row. I move out of it not too long ago. I think it's still empty. You can negotiate the price. 2bd 2ba, garage, concierge, spa, sauna, 24 hour security. I was over DT and wanted to be up north by the lake. Living DT was about much. Let me know if you are interested.W/D, 1100 sq ft. Beautiful view of skyline. Hated ro love though, cause you will have views of the rivwr too.
I really wish you had added the green frame only when you added apt info. Extremely distracting, and I couldn't really appreciate the tour having to view through a third ofnthebscreen the entire time. 🤦🏾♀️
Girl it’s not smart to give people the actual addresses or names of the apartments!! What if you move into one, then the world will know where you live. Please be aware especially as a single woman in Chicago. Regardless if the buildings have doormen, you never know. I live in Rivernorth in a place with a door man and security and you still want to be super careful about sharing your location on RUclips!
Hi! Please give my common sense a little more credit, lol. Any buildings featured in these vlogs are ones I already know I won’t be moving into. However, I’m still sharing them for informational purposes for others currently apartment searching in Chicago. I’ve been creating content online for many years, and I wouldn’t suddenly choose now to compromise my safety. Thank you! 😊
@@PaigeMariah I’m happy to hear that! As a single woman living in Chicago for 20 years, and also a RUclips content creator for the last 5 years (this isn’t my creator channel lol) it gets truly creepy as you know! Even giving people an idea of the type of buildings you’ll be living in could give people a lead into where you could be. Ijs, please be careful woman to woman! God bless!
Stay with your folks til after the election u may possibly get a $25000 allowance for first-time buyers if Harris is elected. Then buy a big condo. Rent is like burning your dollars

The high rise apartment parking spaces are so expensive! In Florida you mostly park outside in a huge lot, but the parking space is free,
Makes sense!!

@PaigeMariah - OK, Paige, as long as you have thought it through 👍🏾.
living w parents and saving is great if u have that option, but theres an opportunity cost. paige is so young and vibrant, she can't get the money back on rent, but she cant get back the time and experiences she's missing out on spending time in the suburbs rather than in the city - pros and cons to everything
Thank you so much for your comment. ☺️
@@officialnicholas1I agree! Suburban life is for families, starting a family, lol! City living is for the young and young at heart!
I’d have to save money on that parking. Keep my car at my mother‘s house and when I need it, go get it.
I won’t be paying any parking fees lol, don’t worry!
i rented at 1333 eventually.
❤❤❤
Sis, it's giving orlando prices! My place is 652 sq feet. Lord help us!
😭
Too bad you couldnt take River North
I really liked that one too!
Sheesh i thought Charlotte was expensive! For your privacy dont show the name of the unit you pick! Congratulations!
I would never lol. I’m not going with any of the options shared. Thanks for watching!
Stay with your parents and save up your money
I’ve been doing that for over a year lol, now I am moving 😊 thanks for watching!
I really wish you had added the green frame only when you added apt info. Extremely distracting, and I couldn't really appreciate the tour having to view through a third ofnthebscreen the entire time. 🤦🏾♀️
lol I filmed the video vertically so it was either a green frame or black. Sorry that you didn’t enjoy
I like swedish she like
Girl it’s not smart to give people the actual addresses or names of the apartments!!
